@paulam128 Back then when Cathay first ordered 747s, Cathay operated only regional routes. They had been long fighting for the rights to fly from Hong Kong to London. To please the London authorities, they bought L-1011s and B747-200s, both with Rolls-Royce engines. Later BCal and Cathay were granted the permissions to operate the HK-London route (though Cathay lost at first before they succeeded in their following appeal).
