Next thing you know some kids near me started to loosen up and dance, and then a wave rolled across the floor of people dancing like crazy. This is a huge, ancient space with vaulted brick ceilings, spookily lit, and The Plastics were an explosion of color and movement and spastic but solid dance beats. The whole place went ballistic. A beautiful scene... perhaps their greatest performance.
Then The Plastics hit the stage as the opening band, and the Tuxedomoon fans didn't know what to do. The Plastics were more ferociously pop crazy and incredibly tight, and Chica Sato was far more elegant and electrifying than any of the existing YouTube videos show. It was a wall of sound and motion and beauty, and audience was totally taken off guard. They had sticks up their asses. I was living in London, working security at Heaven Ultradisco under Charing Cross Station while going to university there for a year... the 6' 7" straight American lad whose passport was stamped Employment Prohibited. Tuesday nights the place stopped being the largest disco in Europe and they had New Wave nights.
