I have to say this is my favorite cover version of Don't Stop Believing, because her voice isn't perfect...it's honest and beautiful because of it's honesty, You can tell if she wanted to sound better or more professional then the whole point of her style would be gone! I love it and for those who don't get it...too bad your missing out on some beautiful popes :)
I heard someone play this on CBC radio. I was amazed. I like it much better than the original. I wish they'd play Petra Haden's version on the radio more regularly. Even this live version is amazing.
First off if you watch GLEE properly you'd know that they do this weird yet cool accappella music throughout the episodes, and anyway GLEE's verision IS diffrent people!
petra...the "perfect sister", who appears on commie toyota commercials, making money for carbon credits, while the much more talented rachel works for rungren
It surprises me that a lot of people here keep complaining about this song getting "covered". Would you really expect anything else from a Great song like this??
Way I see see it Petra Haden is paying tribute to this song with here cover version of it. With interest!! And brilliantly, if I may...
Just to clear up some ignorant falsehoods by recent commentators on this page. Petra Haden's singing is actually even stronger than her fiddle playing, but she's a fine violinist. Her voice is HARDLY what anyone could call "weak": she HAS an almost 5-octave range as WELL as Perfect Pitch! She's recorded all of these songs covering all the parts using only her voice. Her upcoming album is her recreating symphonic film music using, again, only her voice as the orchestra. "Weak voice" my ASS!
but hey, Twist and Shout was a cover by The Beatles as well as many others. I would agree that there are bad covers and good covers. Petra Haden? Good cover! Jonas Brothers doing Hello Goodbye? BAD cover.
Yes, because Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Little Richard were sooooo unoriginal as artists. They sand nothing but covers (or in Richard's case outright stole them) so it's a given fact that they didn't change how anyone heard music. And they influenced no one.
And what about John Coltrane? Covering show tunes? Give me a break, Colt!! Hey, Glenn Gould! Stop playing those covers and start composing. You're not going to change what people think of piano playing if you keep playing the EXACT same notes as everyone else! How will anyone tell the difference?
And let's not forget the ever UN-original Jimi Hendrix whose cover of Bob Dylan's "All Around the Watchtower" was so unoriginal that Dylan himself copies Hendrix's arrangement to this day.

I'm sorry, but with a classic like this I feel the singer should strive to be as close as possible to the original. When it's not, it's just cheap karaoke.
except for her being female and having a female voice... it sounds pretty damn similar to me. you realize it's accapella, right? the background music and beat is all sung.
AWESOME comment! now go and make the same statement on EVERY SINGLE VIDEO of a singer who sang a song NOT written by them. and let me know when you're finished.
cockatiel7: Get a life you soulless moron. Both of those girls have come a long way since that dog, and have had their hands full with music. It was a good band, but I'll take Imaginaryland any day of the week. I'm sorry if innovation threatens you. I mean really...who cares about Anna? You are talking about Anna? She's ok, but not terribly original. She's not fit to rosin Petra's bow, and you know it.
I love petra, but I GUESS a gal has to make money. It seems that the ironically named sellouts are selling toyotas that leave a bigger carbon (so-called) footprint than a freakin hummer. I guess 40 is approaching and petra is making as much money as possble along with rachel touring with "old hippie rungren"?
Whatever happened to the music? Or did the Haden sisters make anna so jaded as to make her forever angry? Matt sharp is a gigilo but he respects the hadens for a good album!
Freakin awesome. I found my way here after discovering that Petra was the one in the new Prius commercials. Wow that was cool, I'm gonna listen again.
I know she's probably just having fun with the song and the act, but the main singer comes off incredibly obnoxious. It's probably because I expect to hear a smooth enjoyable performance and she throws in her slightly humorous antics to substitute for instruments and it just ruins it.
thank you youtube for enabling me to find sheer class such as this i love the original so much and it's been covered so many times frequently badly but having said that i absolutely love this version thank you kris for posting but thank you petra and co for covering it in the first place
You don't diss Petra for her singing nor her lack of viola playing.
