  • What's not to like? You didn't see so much BRASS back in the day! One more thing, I have always wondered if these artists ever get on youtube look to see what ppl have posted, under assumed names that is.

  • quality

  • Epic...........

  • ブリティッシュ、アメリカン、70年代ロックを崇高に融合させた先駆けユニット、ジョー・コッカーの、所謂マッド・ドッグス&イングリッシュメン、鬼才レオンのキラー"デルタ・レディ"

  • I don't care if he's screaming souting or what it sounds good and thanks to Joe I learned how to dance

  • @bill7920 And a wonderful dancer Joe is. You picked a good teacher!

  • Live videos usually are less enjoyable because of audio quality. I can't imagine watching Joe any other way.

  • Amazing how he shouts in tune & it sounds so much like singing.

    /sarcasm

    Joe can bring it!

  • I always thought that track 4 side 4 was the weakest song on the greatest rock album of all time, however, the encore always did send shivvers down my spine. I rarely listen to it though, when there is so much pleasure to be gained from track 1 side 3.

  • Wow, a flashback to black mollies, acapulco gold, and california turn-arounds and my bonniville 427 factory stock with 3-duces. I had just returned from a trip to Mexico up to California, San Francisco and back home to San Antonio when I get to the crash pad everyone was getting ready for this concert. Between all of above and Pinch, I don't remember much but I still feel the music in my chest. Wow.

  • You sure watch a lot of his [ the shouters] VIDEOS!!

  • I saw him in 68" (or possibly 69') with the Byrds. It was my first concert ever. Great show, to say the least! Loved it!

  • his lack of co ordination is part of his charm

  • I saw this concert in San Antonio about 1970-71. Whew. Seeing this is like being there again. As I remember, Delaney and Bonnie opened up with Eric Clapton playing guitar with them.

  • Man oh man. A whole stage chock full of talent right there. Master performers at work. How great it must have been to be in that audience to witness this exhibition of musical greatness.

  • Wow.

  • @streetender1878, get your panties out of your crack, the socalled "shouter" has had million sellers in the 60s,70s80s,90s and in 2010, ray charles called joe his one true disciple!! And you call joe a shouter? Who the fuck is paul young? The BEATLES actually sent joe songs to record!!! Joes voice has gotten ragged over the years but still, hes the greatest white soul singer alive!!

  • @stalkingwolf1954 You tell 'em! Doncha just love people who have no idea what they're talking about act like their some kinda expert? Way to set him straight!

  • @judecreek2 Doncha just love people who have no idea what they're talking about like some kind of expert?! i hate people who have nothing valid to say but still talk about themselves! way to set you straight!

  • @streetender1878 Where in my comment did I talk about myself? If you have a valid point to make, bring it.

  • @stalkingwolf1954

People have been saying stupid things about performers for years. Elvis, Rod Stewart, Jerry Lee Lewis, all have been called lousy singers. They are great, all of them, and each in his own way, and Joe Cocker is another great performer.

    Those who are opera buffs need not visit here if it bothers them. But I'll continue to love these people's work.;

  • @stalkingwolf1954 there is lots i could say, but bollocks will suffice

  • @stalkingwolf1954 it doesnt matter how many records someone has sold! cocker was never a singer, he was, is and always will be a shouter! he doesnt sing! end of!

  • @streetender1878 a shouter? well i wish i could shout like that...ur an idiot and obviously not a music person

  • @zo219. its obvious you know squat about rock history!! Leon was a astudio musician[a good one] and was unknown until this tour, which made him a star. Joe was already a legend in europe at this time playing in his younger days w/ jimmy page and steve winwood, when page was forming his new band[zeppelin] joe was the1st singer considered !!Know your history man!!!

  • I love Joe Cocker, but he really needs to work on his dance moves. Looks like he's having a siezure. he he

My fav of his is Cry Me a River. You should check out the upload of that Live with Leon Russel on keyboards, top hat on all. Too cool!!

BTW if you check it out you'll see that Hippiea make good back up singers!!!!

  • How many totally miss the point of his singing? His voice is not why he is so good! He has such depth in his performance and an ability to excite beyond words! He struggled with alcohol and maybe this took his best years. We ALL have issues.Joe lost the intensity in later years but he gave %110 in these concerts and many others. What a tour this was!

  • That explains it all, Joe Cocker was bit by a mad dog.

  • See the way Joe looks at Leon when leon starts up the piano again ? Joe was not happy .....this was one of the best concerts I ever saw !

  • A true classic performance.

  • Perhaps it is my imagination, but at around 1:35, Jim Gordon? seems to play an incredibly fast drum roll.

  • cocker is the man. so fucked up all the time but still seems to amaze me

  • Comment removed

  • The Greatest white soul singer ever is an -opinion , i think he sang great songs but his voice is an aquired taste (just let me leave it at that,) what the fuck is he singing aoutt? it sounded as if it was on its way out then!!

  • anyone who hates this song can just JOG THE FUK ON joe is one of the greats and this song is pure quality

  • Crocker puts on some show, but a little Pamela Polland would have been nice, too!

  • how do you have a bad show with a band like the Mad Dogs and Englishmen...Leon Russell, Ian Mcglauain, Bobby Keys Rita Coolidge and Claudia Lennear, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page. Jim Keltner.....they kicked ass every night.

  • He be nothin' without Leon--who, in fact, put this conert tour together.

  • @zo219 ,

Leon didnt put the tour together, Joes manager did,, Leon stepped in & ran the show, saving Joes butt in an almost impossble tour schedual .

  • Master of Time and Space. Leon Russel.

  • wow Joe you have always been a soul singer........N

  • Those were the days! Filmore West was a gas- not only the smoke in the room but the joints were passed up and down the rows of seats. too bad the present genertion is deprived of real talent.

  • @TheKailua62 I hate when people say stupid shit like that. There was plenty of shitty, and later forgotten, music back then just as today and in the future. However there are plenty of musicians out there today tearing it up and sucks for you if you have that, "Those were the Days" mentality. Think about it.

  • Love the *absolutely filthy look* Joe gives Russell when he starts up the reprise...

  • @eclectrickery type in the search bar Delta Lady (full version). You'll see that Leon started the reprise not once, but twice. If looks could kill, Leon would never have made it off stage alive that night.

  • @eclectrickeryI just wonder if it was because of the twinkle-toe" riffs that Leon likes to sneak in once inawahile

  • The best rock movie up to that time (1971) I've seen it many times and still get the video out of the cupboard and play it LOUD!!!!!!

  • Now that's REAL soul. His expressions and his voice is definitely the true sound of the blues and soul.

  • hehehehe..I almost Beheaded some Guys with the Vinyl Version!

I was pregnant and trying to Sleep and they played the Album like 13 times in a Row. I got up and made like OddJob, ya know from JamesBond, With Every JoeCocker record in the house! We didn't hear Joe for the next six weeks. And the guys left when I asked em too. PS I don't recommend this method. I had no Albums and one guy had to get stiches

  • @PuppyLove7512 this is maybe the funniest post I have ever read!! And certainly could have happened at one of my pads thru the years! HAHA Four of my kids are musicians.

  • Oh yeah, Leon played piano on this. After all, Leon wrote this song.

  • Unmistakably, Leon Russell set the stage for this era! Back when i just got out of diapers Russell was kicking it... I'll be wearing depends soon... That's kicking it from SHINDIG to the HALL OF FAME !!! but for now, Rock & Roll... the one and only Joe Cocker!

  • Congrats to Leon Russell, whose band and arrangements and song you are hearing, Rock N Roll Hall of Fame! About time!

  • The very best! Thank you for the video!

  • SC and BH, sorry guys, gregg allman in a runway ,chk out searching for simplicity

  • TheSwancatcher - i am not saying you are wrong but i do think that Edgar Winter has to be included in the discussion. White Trash is one of the greatest albums from beginning to end, not a bad song on there and soul singing at its best.

  • Powerhouse. Makes today's "soul singers" sound like tryouts for the school choir.

By the way, Joe and Leon are talking again after about four decades.

  • Tomorrow night in Perth WA... bring it on baby!!!

    Woo-hoo!

  • i remember listening to this album back in 1970....i dont think he would win amercia.s got talent because of the way he sings....and that is very sad!

  • greatest BLUES singer ever, FACT. How he managed to make this crap song sound half decent is a great credit to him. Pity that it was used to end the album, but on a positive note, the audience reaction at the start of the encore always sent shivers down me.

  • Gotta admit, Leon sings it better...

  • Это, наше все!!!!!!

  • Fact!!

  • Wat een liveperformance van Joe,het komt werkelijk uit zijn tenen!!!!!Allemachtig, wat is dit ontzettend goed!!!!!!!

  • Leon rules!

  • This song just doesn't allow one to sit . I really have to be careful at my age. Could seriously hurt something

  • @rthom100 Ahhh, but what a way to go!

  • @rthom100

I hear ya, just poped a hip here.

  • Leon Russell wrote "Delta Lady for Rita Coolidge.

  • Joe Cocker was facing deportation for being in our country. He was here on a "work Visa." Leon put this whole show & entourage together in less than two weeks as Denny Cordell set up a schedule of shows....the rest is history.

  • LOVE the fuckin' sideburns... and the song.... ; )

  • unchain my heart

  • a british blues singer, southern rock musicians and singers,a hell of a combo, joe said recently that at times during the tour, he was overwhelmed by rock stardom, and couldnt handle it, leon tried to teach him how but it took him years to adjust, just saw leon on the 22 w/ elton john great show,a mad dog reunion would be the highlight of my life though

  • Real music

  • Carl Radle was amazing. He drove this. A real Thunderfingers. No one like him.

  • @garbeaj And another great musician that we lost too soon to drugs.

  • @judecreek2 Too true...

  • he is still alive and still performing@judecreek2

  • he is still alive and performing he is not l ost to drugs

  • he is still alive and performing he is not l ost to drugs

  • @judecreek2 he isnt dead he is alive and still performing

  • @TheDa1sy We were not talking about Joe Cocker. The commenter garbeaj and I were referring to the late, great Carl Radle, the bass player.

  • One of the greatest soul singers period.

  • Wow, not for nothing he looks STONED!

  • @celticqueen0206 more than stoned! He is off his face

  • No pyrotechnics, no autotune, dancers or fancy ass staging..just the goddam music.

  • @tmf945 I'd say Joe Cocker cutting a mean rug @ 2:42

  • Sheffield Steel doing what he does best ...

  • @philwear Sheffield Steel is great. Haven't heard it in a while. May have to dust it off.

  • Delta Lady (Live) - Joe Cocker [Sheffield, Yorkshire, England] - 1970 - "AMG Pick. One of Leon Russell's greatest songwriting creations, "Delta Lady" is also one of Joe Cocker's defining moments. The verses are a full-blown three-chord rock blowout, featuring a fabulous performance from both Cocker and the background vocalists." - Mad Dogs & Englishmen [Original Recording Reissued, Original Recording Remastered, Live] (A&M Records)-1999.

  • Presença de palco impressionante!!!

  • You didn't even have to smoke. Just breathe. I worked for Willie and Waylon in those days!

  • The greatest white soul singer ever FACT

  • @TheSwancatcher if you think hes good you need to listen to Leon Russell

  • @TheSwancatcher Still a spaz 40+ years later..love him! I never saw side stage...did Leon Russel play keys on this, does anyone know?

  • @TheSwancatcher Fact! Our generation layed it out.

  • @TheSwancatcher FACT except for paul young of course

  • @streetender1878 I hope you are not comparing 80"s Paul Young to early 70's Joe Cocker? that would be just dumb.

  • @MrTupelo64 paul young: blackest sounding white voice ever

  • @MrTupelo64 of course im not comparing paul young to joe cocker(of any period). because paul young is a singer and cocker is a shouter!

  • @TheSwancatcher here we go with this black worship nonsense again

  • This is a great dvd too.

  • Freaking awesome! Thank God this was filmed. Just sends chills down your spine it's so great! Cocker still sounds great today. Saw him when he went through town with Tom Petty. But in his prime Cocker was king. I remember this period in his career and the hype surrounding his concerts and recordings. Wish I could have seen him live during this period. Bobby Keys wailing on the sax, just icing on the cake. Beautiful!

  • Fantastic performance!

  • Those shows were awesome, and didn't cost much either....Now...there's no way I can even afford a ticket to a show like that....Back in 'the day'...I could go to the Fillmore (SF) and for 3 to 5 bucks see three great bands....It'd last all night too....

Saw Joe at Winterland (SF) and at the Warfield too.....Sure glad I caught those shows....

Joe Cocker can still bring it on .....saw him two years ago in Medford Oregon...he rocked!

  • Vocal pipes for days

  • @ezekialwheel oh, yeah....concerts were SO much better then. Remember trying to see the stage thru the haze of pot smoke? The higher the seats in the arena, the thicker the smoke and the higher the audience!

  • The spastic legend that is Joe Cocker! Love this guy~

  • Ol' Joe isn't strung out on anything there. nosiree..

  • @Fitzillo high High me oh my!!

  • You get the DVD a big projector screen a great sound system, lots of bites a big J and some friends around bolt the doors and go for it. What a great movie and the sound is incredible.

  • This man has always had it, one of the best voices in music, gritty and hard as the steel city of Sheffield where he is from. Fantastic!

  • OOOOPS. forgot u were personal friends with "Claude". Alas, the reference.

  • re: flacracker moron: As a teen lots of us idolized the rockers of our generation. I adored Leon Russell; never said a word about Claude. P.SS. Not all of us had "dad" or "mom" to idolize. And what has that got to do with Mad Dogs and Englishman, anyway?

  • He's got so many great songs. I love his version of this song. Another great one is "You can leave your hat on". That is one of the sexiest songs. He does a superb job with it.

  • @Msdistarr Thank you so much!!! I forgot that song decades ago, it was an album someone "borrowed" along w/ my "Exile on Main street" and David Bowies' Knock on Wood"Hey, Roseland:" and of course my Joe Cocker. It was sexy! At the time, I didn't know what that meant!x0 thank you

  • @jmmkllj7 Your so welcome. You know, it gets hard remembering some of the older songs that you really liked. I have over 35+ years of music stored in my brain and the filing system up there, just isn't what it used to be. I rely alot on bouncing around Youtube and stumbling onto a good old song or like you did, reading a comment. I'm happy to have been of help to you. I hope the song is as good as your remember it to be. Enjoy your music and have a great rest of the day!

  • he really needed bongos to play in those days, or a guitar ; )

  • any famous band members?

  • @JOHNNYB531 besides the obvious, Joe Cocker and Leon Russell, there was Rita Coolidge. Don Preston and the late, great Carl Radle went on to become Dominoes with Eric Clapton, and Jim Keltner played drums for George Harrison on his solo work.

  • @judecreek2 ...Bobby Keys, and Jim Price (Rolling Stones) kick-ass horn section.

  • @SoberGeorge you are right. It should be mentioned that Jim Keltner also played drums for the Travelling Wilburys with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and the great Roy Orbison.

  • @judecreek2 As legend has it, Joe Cocker's manager set this tour up very quickly. Leon Russell put the whole band together which required recruiting the best musicians he could find with very short (8 days) notice. What's even more amazing is they only had 4 days to rehearse before they hit the road. This was really one of the most celebrated "super groups" to ever tour.

  • @SoberGeorge --Indeed. Denny Cordell and Joe Cocker showed up at Leon's house and asked for his help. (Cordell was Leon's manager). Leon held auditions and tons of singers showed up. The first show was in Detroit where my 14 year old self was mesmerized.

  • @judecreek2 Leon Russell pulled the cream of the crop together for this tour, and I really can't imagine a better line-up to support Joe Cocker. I was fifteen year old lad when I saw the show in Phoenix. They really played their hearts out.

  • @SoberGeorge Mad Dogs was the first concert I ever saw, which is probably why it holds a special place in my heart. It shaped the way I "rated" concerts, and few have held up to their standard. I've seen Joe Cocker and Leon Russell seperately over the years, and Leon wins hands down. As he's aged, his habit of telling stories of the old days between songs has increased, which is where I get my information-straight from the horse's mouth.

  • Comment removed

  • I got to go to all these shows!!!! P.S judecreek is totally, absolutely correct! I idolized

Leon Russell when I was a teen!

  • @LBRXS you idolized claude? nice, i idolized my dad.

  • @judecreek2- claude is a great musian, he has forgot more than alot of musians will ever know, "but" he used joe, and swindeled joe, so claude is a user and loser, and i am a nut.

  • @flacracker1959--Leon didn't use Cocker, he saved his ass. Leon ran the tour because Joe was too busy doing drugs, booze and girls. Leon took on the responsibility of manager so that all Joe had to do was show up and sing, and there were times when even that was too much to ask. Yeah, Leon was the ringmaster of that crazy circus, but he led them right into music history!

  • @judecreek2 i aree with a little of that. so, claude didnt use drugs? he didnt take some of joes cut, buy a large amount of grass bring in his crew and pay them with that dope?

  • @flacracker1959 What is your problem? You sound like Leon did something to you personally instead of bitching about events that happened 40 years ago to people you've never met. Enjoy the music or don't. Just don't keep proving that you have a master's degree in asshole-ology. Jeez, let it go already.

  • Many hours listen to Joe

  • thanks for posting great

  • As far as music goes Cocker is the man. Keep belting them out Joe!

  • Just a post script here. I used to manage a club back in early 1970's. BBMy boss had the hots for me and when I refused to dance with the pervert(very rich as well which never made a difference to me), It was to a Joe Cocker song bythe way, he Fired my Happy Ass!!! If had been a little smarter back in the day, could have sued him for all he was worth, which was alot!! jUST MOVED ON.

  • leon used joe like a shoe shine boy, leon is a loser.

  • Don't you just love the *absolutely filthy* look Joe gives Russell (on piano) when he sets up the reprise?

  • @flacracker1959 are you a nut, leon is probably the most under appreciated musical genious alive today! as another poster told you leon coordinated all the events.

  • What sucks is in today's "American Idol" world, you probably wouldn't hear of Joe Cocker

  • What kind of user name is "arsefaced?" I think that person has serious self-esteem issues. Rock and roll, babies.

  • What a voice!

  • . . .this couldn't be done today; for cost reason's, alone !

  • Great album !

  • awesome joe cocker

  • Joe Cocker, you are the finest of Englishmen.

  • @57highland --haha hes a mad dog too

  • Remember, folks, this is available on DVD. "Rock and Roll," indeed.

  • And some of the best mutton chops in music history!

  • His songs were not only strong, but to sing for that long with so much energy was simply amazing.

  • brilliant

  • great music!

  • wondering if this filmore west San fransisco 1970! I was there..cant remeber it

  • @choralstuart: It actually appears to be the stage size and set up of Fillmore East. The various segments were shot at venues in several places. In the Dallas shots, the notorious Butter Queen is seen sitting down front at the show. ;-)

  • @choralstuart

Of course you were there if you don't remember. That's what they say about the whole60's experience including some early1970's. If you don't remember, you WERE there!!! LOL!!!

  • @TheMustangsally75 I was there, and I remember as well, but I'm the exception to every single rule that I've ever heard of, both physical and mental. I'm even an exception to several recognized exceptions.

  • who could know that BOBBY Keys had been a Mad Dog!

  • @helenawf: A lot of talent on the tour: Leon Russell, piano, guitar and musical director; Chris Stainton, piano, organ; Don Preston, guitar; Carl Radle, bass; Jim Gordon and Jim Keltner, drums; Chuck Blackwell, percussion and drums; Sandy Konikoff, percussion; Bobby Torres, congas; Jim Price, trumpet; Bobby Keys, tenor sax; with Don Preston, Rita Coolidge, Claudia Linnear, Daniel Moore, Donna Weiss, Pamela Polland, Matthew Moore, Donna Washburn, Niclole Barclay and Bobby Jones on backing vocals.

  • Mad dogs , one of the best albums if ever had !!

  • arsefaced(nice moniker) thks for the upload this is J C at his absolute best, with a touring band producing a storm like tempest from H E Double Hockey Sticks! Rock and Roll indeed! Thks Y T and Leon and the rest of The Mad Dogs & Bad Assed Brits, for producing the absolute sweetest live recording from the late 60's and early 70's, well, one of 'em anyway! If you can't rock on Shindiggers to this one, get checked for a pulse! God Save Joe Cocker & Leon Russell!

  • My brother bought the album when it came out. I had much fun listening to it. Great vibe!

  • joe king of the mancers ide put him up against maynard anyday

  • Joe Cocker 2012!!!

  • 40 years, and still as deeply felt in my heart.

    Peace.

    Rock
