Jame2707 or what please reframe from using this type of writing, we r in America now not where ever u grew up some country we Americans never heard of, thank you go Kettlebells
hey man good post, im only 5"6 an have small hands i have a 16kg kettle bell and im struggling with last exercise where ya roll the bell over your hand, will this get easier or should i look for another kettle bell with a smaller handle?
This looks pretty hard going, I starting doing workouts about 2 months back, though i've noticed some improvements I'm looking for something abit more intense than weight and cadio machines at the gym. Since I'm not very confident with using free-weights, this looks like a good place to start, gonna try this tomorrow.
Hi im 16 5"6 and just over 160 pounds do you personally think that starting on 16kg 4 times a week each session being an hour plus my standard workout which would be twice a week for like 2 hours could be efficient? im looking mainly for building on my traps, delts and overall top half of my body while losing weight (hence the reason for wanting to train 4 times a week) Thanks in advance :)
be carefull everyone when doing snatches and anything else with kettlebells to alaways sit back in your heels. if you're ever on your toes you are putting bad pressure on your knee and to much on the front of your quads. the trick is to involve your hams and gluets in every swing. great workout by the way! i love this stuff!!!!!!
I'm no expert, but the only discomfort I feel every now and again is in my shoulderplates. Otherwise I feel it has made my back a lot stronger. Just take a good look at his technique, you can see he keeps his back straight like a door. It's very important I think.
And btw, I just got a 28 Kg KB that is way to heavy for me, I can't do this coz I have to use my 16Kg KB for the snatches. But even with a KB that is too heavy, I don't feel sore joints or anything.
I actually do this twice a day with 16 kg KB but I added an extra cycle and some other KB excersizes.
But after 2 months I feel progress has stopped (dont get me wrong, im in better shape then ever, lost waist while gaining weight and im stronger than ever). I'm thinking of picking up a 24 or maybe 28 Kg KB. Think that is a good idea?
Also I wonder, since this is a full body excesize. Is this suitable for doing it daily? Or have I been doing this wrong for 2 months heheh.
YOU HERO!!! I tried Kettlebells once with a mate of mine who has a 16kg and I could barely hack it. I wanna get into them properly though; they look like really good explosive workouts. All I do at the minute is CV...
@MrMorash1997 This is obe of the best full body workout yes, I have been doing it since I first saw this video, and it also works your cardio, the only major part of your body is not working on is your chest
Its tougher than it looks... I'm only starting out and these are great simple exercises.
By the way, whats with all the plaster work on the wall behind you? Hope it wasnt some dude with a bit of 'roid rage attacking inatimate objects in a muscle fury. haha. Just joking, cheers for the vid.
@SDOTT123 - Stick with the basics - swings, get ups etc. Google ETK programme minimum and give that a go. Stick to a healthy, balanced diet and you shouldn't have problems. Best of luck.
Kettlebell workout Hey im 14 years old 55 kg about 5 ft 8 im just asking i have a 4kg kettlebell and i want to build muscle around my shoulders/biceps/chest/abs will a 4kg kettlebell be enough for your workout ? - i cant afford anything else atm so can you please give a guide on what to do? im a total beginner btw and i have a 4 pack breaking though my stomach but a layer of fat is stopping it so can you give me help with that aswell? any tips on protein or guide
You can start with this one, but you'd better switch to a bigger one as soon as possible. To become big and strong you should be able to clean and press 32 kg kettlebell at least 10 times. That's a reality. Strenght and muscle don't come easy. Read Brooks Kubik's "Dinosaur Training".
nice work! and great form too... i love when people get creative with the tabata interval. im gonna go try this out right now, ill let you know how it goes!
I can snatch a 24kg a few reps each side, and a 28 kg 3 times each side-....I TRIED THE 32KG THE OTHER DAY AND JUST MANAGED ONE SNATCH...... THATS ONE HELL OF A LUMP TO THROW ROUND !!!
I am 52yrs old this year, been training all my life and these are the best thing EVER for superb conditioning. thanks for taking the time to post this video.
your technique is excellent, really helped me learn and a killer work out.
i can do this quite easily with the 16KG / 35lbs kb, should i move onto a bigger kb?

I started doing this workout a couple of weeks ago and it rocks. This is my first time to work with a kettlebell. Thank you for sharing this workout and helping unlock the benefits of kettlebells.
can any tell me where to get a training manual from, also do you need a lighter kbell to warm up with first. does the 20sec 10 sec really make alot of difference to just doing a normal kbell workout

Welcome to kbelling! No other exercise will give you physical strength, flexibility and cardio like kbells. When you kbell using the Tabata protocol of 20 sec of hard work and 10 sec rest, you put your body in such an oxygen debt that you will burn fat at an amazing pace.

New to kettlebells, and found this great. Just know I'm going to feel it tomorrow! Jyst wondering, is 8kg too much for a reasonably fit woman??? Don't want to build muscle - just tone up.
If any of you are in reasonably good shape and a male, then 16 kg is the starting weight you should use. If you're not reasonably fit go lighter, such as a 12kg or an 8kg. Oh, and also look into kettlbell resources on proper form for these things, because they can seriously mess you up if you don't know how to use them right. A certified kettlebell instructor is a good idea too because they can pick up on errors you're making in your form that you would otherwise miss.
You bring it up under control, not swinging the weight around unless you're going outside your hips. You also should never lock your knees. He's hurting his results and risks injury by not being smooth and controlled. It's a decent workout, but form needs to improve big time.
Sorry, but you have no idea what you're talking about. His form is just fine. And not supposed to lock out your knees? Have you even picked up a kettlebell in your life?
I have a PhD in Kinesiology from UM, I know what I'm talking about. Completely locking the knees and jerking the weight puts repetitive stress on your meniscus. Jerking the weight up and letting it swing over your hand puts stress on your lower back, and joints--not to mention his slight trunk twist while jerking the weight up will most certainly cause a hernia(see 4:40-55).
@47burgleflickle I would like to hear more from an expert rather than put him down. please consider describing your alternative 6 minute kettlebell routine with or without example videos. I will consider it thoughtfully
I see military, and baseball players coming in all the time because they don't use kettlebells the correct way. Not only do I work with them, I teach athletes how to use them properly.
get a 16kg it might feel a bit heavy the first week or 2 but ull get use to it and its the weight most guys start out on plus u only get use to heavy weights lifts heavy weights.
one question, Im looking to start out in kettlebells, but im not sure what weight, style etc to buy. Im 16 and reasonably strong , I've done dumbells for a while. Would it be worth it to simply buy a set?.
I'm going to start too, I've ordered a 12kg one. If you already do weights e.g. dumbells then you might get away with 16kg. Those are generally the two sizes I've seen recommended for guys who are starting out.
If you can... go to a local sportinggoods store and try different ones out. That's probably the best way to figure out what to start with. and go with something a little lighter so that you can get the form down for the exercises.
Awesome workout bro. I have been hitting kettle bells for about a year now and I have a good idea how tough that workout was. Do you ever use 2 lighter kettle bells?
I've changed my swing over the years and don't swing as upright anymore. If you watch more recent videos you'll see less of an upright swing which is more efficient and hits more of the posterior chain of the body. Thank you for the comment.
Lose a grip on the kettlebell, and you lose plenty of weight. :) But yeah, that would be the purpose. I cannot seem to keep time that well while doing something... So I just do X number of moves, and then wait 10 seconds, and do Y numer of the next move. Sweaty stuff, all the same. Even with a paltry 10kg bell. (Local shops suck.)
I have worked up to doing this workout with a 32kg Kettlebell and seriously, that second round is about as bad as the middle or end of just about any crossfit WOD. Only difference is the mental comfort of knowing the entire thing lasts 6 minutes.. Love the KB's
farmer burns developed dumbell exercises very similar to these. No way in hell am I using anything that heavy though; those dumbell exercises look easy.
swings, cleans, squats... that's very nice but the proper kettlebell exercise are (one-handed) snatches and (two-handed) jerks and they are the exercises on which professional kettlebell athletes are rated.. such as 'candidate master of sports' and 'master of sports qualifications'... you have to do them a certain number of times (a lot)... there's also kettlebell juggling which is also a proper exercise... oops i see now he finally go to do a couple of snatches in the end, no jerks though,
I agree that what you say is true of kettlebell sport. The kettlebell in North America in general has been used as a tool for strength endurance training through varied exercises rather than the specific training for 10 minutes of snatches or clean and jerk that is kettlebell sport. I would like to say this, while the swing is not part of the Kettlebell sport competition it most certainly is part of the training of a Girevik developing hand/grip endurance and smooth efficient technique.
I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. I'm learning via youtube, which I can't take to the gym, since noone around here even knows what they are, much less how to properly use them. They are worse on my non-dominant hand, so I'm sure it's technique related. But they aren't going away anytime soon.
When your bell gets to about shoulder height try opening your hand and sort of pushing / "feeding" your hand through the bell. With practice you'll get the motion so the bell doesn't slap your wrist when doing snatches.
You must "TAME THE ARC" control the bell all the way through the movement. You are relaxing when gravity takes over and the bell slams back down on you forearm.
I've tried a number of things, but I'm also wondering if I'm allowing the bell to go to far out. I keep the arm straight and I've seen a few who do an extension of the high pulls (arm is pretty bent for those). What I'd actually like to do is fling the bell and hard as I can on these lifts and just let it fly like a hammer toss, but nowhere to do that :) I will keep working on it.
thaaank you veeerymuch!!!!! this is k-belling! grrreeeeaatttt vid.gotanymore?

Nice workout! This looks brutal ... will have to give it a try ;)

You bring it up under control, not swinging the weight around unless you're going outside your hips. You also should never lock your knees. He's hurting his results and risks injury by not being smooth and controlled. It's a decent workout, but form needs to improve big time.
47burgleflickle 2 years ago
@47burgleflickle
Sorry, but you have no idea what you're talking about. His form is just fine. And not supposed to lock out your knees? Have you even picked up a kettlebell in your life?
causticphlegm 2 years ago 7
@causticphlegm

47burgleflickle 2 years ago
and that's why you're posting comments on youtube. whatever kid
ComputerHax1343 1 year ago
Yeah, you shouldn't lock your knees like in this vid.

one question, Im looking to start out in kettlebells, but im not sure what weight, style etc to buy. Im 16 and reasonably strong , I've done dumbells for a while. Would it be worth it to simply buy a set?.
Tightmanhole 2 years ago
I'm going to start too, I've ordered a 12kg one. If you already do weights e.g. dumbells then you might get away with 16kg. Those are generally the two sizes I've seen recommended for guys who are starting out.
PhilMcCool 2 years ago
If you can... go to a local sportinggoods store and try different ones out. That's probably the best way to figure out what to start with. and go with something a little lighter so that you can get the form down for the exercises.

5kg thats what i bought and its working pretty good for me
Tips4Cube 2 years ago
Depends how much you usually lift, really.
I think they should be lighter than conventional weights? But I'm really not sure. It's not really about reps and sets with these

Thank you for the comment.

the tibia and fibula should barely move..the femur moves just enough to accommodate the hip flexion.I am an RKC...

@mstehle1
Like Mike said, the most of us is practicing the swing not just working out so we progress and make this better.
And Mike knows what he is doing he is a good teacher and trainer .

RangerMedic82nd 2 years ago
farmer burns developed dumbell exercises very similar to these. No way in hell am I using anything that heavy though; those dumbell exercises look easy.
They're not.
pillsburydoughboy47 2 years ago
swings, cleans, squats... that's very nice but the proper kettlebell exercise are (one-handed) snatches and (two-handed) jerks and they are the exercises on which professional kettlebell athletes are rated.. such as 'candidate master of sports' and 'master of sports qualifications'... you have to do them a certain number of times (a lot)... there's also kettlebell juggling which is also a proper exercise... oops i see now he finally go to do a couple of snatches in the end, no jerks though,
CCCPvUKKK 2 years ago
dude its just one of the workouts you can do, it never said anything about showing you all the exercises you can do with KB.
12curls12 2 years ago

But they aren't going away anytime soon.
trulyheaven777 2 years ago
When your bell gets to about shoulder height try opening your hand and sort of pushing / "feeding" your hand through the bell. With practice you'll get the motion so the bell doesn't slap your wrist when doing snatches.
swise63 2 years ago
My forearms have some nice bruises on the back from the one-hand snatches. But I do love doing them.
trulyheaven777 2 years ago
You must "TAME THE ARC" control the bell all the way through the movement. You are relaxing when gravity takes over and the bell slams back down on you forearm.
soulburst 2 years ago
I've tried a number of things, but I'm also wondering if I'm allowing the bell to go to far out. I keep the arm straight and I've seen a few who do an extension of the high pulls (arm is pretty bent for those). What I'd actually like to do is fling the bell and hard as I can on these lifts and just let it fly like a hammer toss, but nowhere to do that :) I will keep working on it.
