Teases with Recently I believe. Maybe the reason he teases songs, is because he really wants to hear a riff or a song so he plays it for a little bit, or deciding if he wants to or not. Maybe he just does it. Just a theory.
I think this is about serious abuse. The differences between a father's twisted point of view and its effects on the son's point of view which is the holding up of the gun pointed straight at his old man. Even at this point of confrontation the old man still doesnt get it.
@arielskies12 It's about a lot of things... The main point he's trying to get across though is that the world is only being held by us for out children to have later... Depending on how we raise them they're going to decide the fate of the world... Preconception does play a big part though
I never thought about what it really means, man this guy is a poet. "Even if you're sure, you never know it all. The ground beneath is nothing more than your point of view." FUCKIN BEAUTIFUL!
@Somuchtoplay I had the same realization at one point - his poetry is huge and lush. A born musician in the same vein as Mozart. The poetry is just so good in his whole catalogue.
@Somuchtoplay I had the same realization at one point - his poetry is huge and lush. A born musician in the same vein as Mozart. The poetry is just so good in his whole catalogue. It's really intelligent and full of love. "What you got in your head? Your secret's safe with me. I got the truth, friend, should I whisper in your ear? Take good care of it, please; it's the only one there is. Can I twist it please, can I give it just a little twist?" The story in this song is really interesting
When they first starting playing full versions of Raven in 2000 the lyrics changed almost nightly and there was some really poetic stuff. You can check 'em out at dmbstream . com
i think its about the deteriorating world environment due to global warming and pollution. i believe dave is trying to say that the world might not be around forever and we have to take care of it, regardless of what other generations did.
"I got the whole world here Daddy between my fingers and my thumb - well you take care of it please its the only one"
"itd take ten lifetimes boy to undo what Ive done" ect.
Does he actually now how awesome he is? I mean does he really realize how he is a musical genius? You see him on tv and in interviews and he is so unassuming, so down to earth.
so true he never looks for any gradtitude from his music never looks for appreciation he just loves to make people happy and get his message across. I wish more musicians and actors could be like him
This is not what I think, but some think its about this??
Father equals God. Son equals mankind. The theme is how mankind takes God (more specifically, organized religion), and uses it for his own empowerment. The Man is twisting, because mankind has twisted the message of God.
Originally, the song ranged from a take on Religion, children, lost souls, and trapped environments. Early versions, interestingly, borrowed from The Beatles Glass Onionin referencing back to other DMB songs.
I like that. It makes sense. But Iv also heard this one from other places.
Some people think the son is holding a gun at his father. When the father says "it would take a lifetime to undo what youve done". Both of those sound like good interpretations of it though.
maaaaaaaaaaaan, this concert is amazing, i just cant get enough of dave. he's simply a genious, like most people have atleast one or two songs if not more that i dont like, but dave, i can't even find ONE i don't like. he continues to blow me away with his talent. i will someday marry a man like dave haha.
@computercanada yea no-one realizes Dave Matthews is a direct descendant musically of BertJansch CatStevens and NielYoung. The torch was passed to Dave I mean in the late 90`s for acoustic rock/pop iconship.Dave looks 'hey-guyed an`flandered' but still able to pull it off on this night, with few cock-ups.Yea like you said hes a legend.
man I love how he's not that confident...At the end you can tell he's like.."Shit was that good or not?" and then the crowd cheers and then he knows it was okay. He isn't like cocky about his playing...hard to explain
I agree I guess its because the music means alot to him when he writes and performs and he is truelly humble about how people take it..because once its out there its not really his any more and only a true artist knows what that means...if any of that makes sense
there's a way to get any audio you want..just buy a mic for like 20 bucks for your pc..then record this with the mic, there should be a program on your computer, that you can record with, it should be called "sound recorder" just go to Start/programs/accessories/entertainment, and you'll see it...just put the mic right up to the speakers and hit record, you can save it to file and play it later and burn it to cd
wow probably one of the best acoustic solo songs ive ever seen him play...watching him play his songs solo lets you realize how awesome his riffs really are
so true, don't get me wrong the band is amazing and each is a supreme musician. It's even different with Timmy, but watching JUST dave... you get a different appreciation for him and what he can do with just him and his guitar.
He is amazing at using his guitar playing to establish a "beat" so to speak. Its actually a rhythm style. God Dave is amazing. Or is he God...!
