transfered to the transmisson. if you dont believe me look up on how a torque converter works. also more and more modern big rigs are going with rockwell semi-automatic transmissions, no im not just talking Bull shit if you dont believe me look it up too. and there have been alisson autos going into big rigs since the 70s also(not sure if there were any before that), but they are not nearly as common as manuals.
manuals and automatics have their own different uses, manuals are better for fuel economy, towing(depending on the application) and yes they are more fun. But automatics do have their perks, such as better for a sudden load on an engine. hense why manuals are no longer put into construction equipment such as bulldozers and graters. in a manual you always have to break power from the engine to shift, which can sometimes leave you dead in your tracks. in an automatic the power is constantly being
If you live on a farm or not, if you want a truck you can get a truck. No one is obligated to live on a farm because they live on a farm nor vice versa

@GoldenAndGolden dude anything can be made to manuel or auto.. its just funner to drive stick, and ANY car you have more control in a manuel.. specially trucks when you are towing pulling or offroading... so idk what you're smoking.
@ thatcheetosguy79- your naive, go do research on all the different engines instead of hopping on the band waggon. you probably dont know as much if anything as i do about cummins and powerstroke.
@Pentastar018 Ive seen alot od Dmaxes with more than 400K and running well. The Cummins is a great diesel. I cant argue with that. The Powerjoke is trash in my books. The cummins jus needs to be in a better truck. Them Dodge trannys are worthless. I jus like the Dmax and Allison combo of the three.
@pleco652 I don't like the power of the 7.3 I drive(pretty gutless) but it is pretty reliable. The 6.0 and 6.4 are nice once their issues are corrected and the 6.7 is the most powerful and most refined diesel of the Big 3.
@bikedirt holy shit dude thats terrible lol... i get 16-18 around town and 20-22 highway... i got 150 hp injectors, air dog 100 1/2 fuel lines, edge chip hot unlock, k&n air filter, and 4" turbo back exhaust to a monster 6" tip, rollin on 33's. then just some other little apperience shit
I love the Cummins engine, but I'm a ford guy and always will love the Powerstroke. Only thing about the cummins is it's annoying high pitch sound, obviously because it's a 6 cylinder. The power is not managed properly with the transmission, but overall great truck...but powerstroke is the only one that has a spot in my driveway
@phonechild08 The truck does not come in a v6. You're thinking of an i6 (inline 6.) Inline 6's in the 2500 aren't bad, though. I'm currently looking at one to buy right now. Great trucks.
By the way dude, the Diesel shifting with that automatic reminds me a lot of my dad's old 2000 Ford F250 four-door that he used to have when I was a kid (sold it about 3-5 years ago). Not trying troll on a Cummins vid with a Powerstroke reference. The sound of the engine when it shifted just brought back memories even though it sounded a LOT different. also, the 5.9 Cummins with 359.0 C.I., NOT 360. The 360's a gasoline motor.
the cummins is a real diesel engine where the the powerstroke and the duramax are gas engines that they switched over to diesel the powerstroke and duramax doesnt have and never will have teh power and tr=orque the cummins, and for saabkyle my automatic cummins stock has 350 horse not 215 horse
@cowboybred There is no stock 01 cummins that came with 350 horse unless you drive an 07, and 7.3 powerstroke was made by international diesel company, and is not a converted gas moter, neither is the mitsubishi made duramax. the new cummins is the lowest hp of all new diesel trucks. with a chip it can match them. the new cummins for 2012 is supposed to have over 800ft lbs of torque, we shall see.
@StrapAssassin1 Honestly, stacks are tacky as fuck and if I EVER got one, I'd get one in 5-inch diameter, which I ain't ever able to find on YouTube.Com. That, and if you take them out. you need a whole new bed because with the hole in the bed, it's now comepletely useless. I'd rather stick with a regular tail pipe or hood stack (hood stack for racing purposes only).
Never heard of a Power-stroke or a DuraMax V 8’s ever put in a tractor, Backhoe, bulldozer, fire truck or for that matter, put into any job that was all that demanding. While you occasionally see one in a school bus, but Cummins do that too, along with city bus service, big rig duty, and all of the above. The buses I’ve worked on that were bigger then a van with the 7.3 or 6.0 were dogs, and pretty much finished at 150k.
@phantomcharger Thats because Cummins is independent of Dodge while Duramax is built by GM and powerstroke by Ford (atleast the new 6.7 is, the only ones werent). Cummins selld their enignes to alot of companies in everything from tractors to marine. GM and Ford use thier Diesel only for their trucks.
I’ve seen the 7.3 Ford engine in International busses, as well as ford using Cummins.
The 7.3’s weren’t considered a premium engine for the job though, having poor performance, high maintenance costs, and low resale value.
What you are saying is if GM & Ford had the opportunity to sell their engines on the open commercial market, they would decline? I highly doubt that. More like few buyers want them over the Cummins, Cat, Perkins and other choices out there.
@phantomcharger Older Powerstrokes were used in International vehicles because they used to build them. I have no porblem with the Cummins, there is no denying it is the best diesel engine avaliable, but it is put it the worst HD truck, the Ram.
@Motorfordtoyota I have no problems with dodge trucks, work on them, know them in and out, I find them built for the most part similarly to the other trucks.
@phantomcharger Until you get to the tranni. I knew people that had a brand new (in 2005) 2005 Dodge Ram Cummins 2500 HD with 500 miles that had already gone through 2 trannis
Solid axles (sorry ford and Chevy), solid box frames, roomy cabs, excitant A/C systems (last generation, can‘t be said about the currant one), the best engines on the market, compliable auto trany’s to any others on the market (they all suck, well except for the Alison’s GM‘s use) best 5 and 6 speed sticks out there, best clutches out there. (you get a stick with a Cummins, you won’t be changing a clutch) my personal truck has an auto, 102k on the trany, no problems, plow snow, pull trailers
@kendrickevans301 Wrong on the Duramax. Isuzu originally helped design the Duramax, it has always been built by GM in the USA. Duramax and Cummins are the best
whats the acceleration like in that thing? mine seems real sluggish and iv been looking for a comparison. mine takes easlily over 20 seconds to get up to highway speed. doestn seem normal to me, mostly cause all other stock diesels kick my butt.
Kyle, hows the room in that, I mean, it looked like you were crammed in it..Im a big guy and I thought about buying a Ram, but after seeing a smaller (no insult intended) guy like you, compared to me that is, fit in it, I'm having second thoughts..
@Jakeman2164 what dealership? all i see a gas station at the background if u have a chevY truck i would respect u all the way the best truck there is a chevy 3500 HD
Awesome vid Kyle! If you want to see a Cummins Monte Carlo, type in "Diesel Monte Carlo" on the YT search engine. It's a 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with the 1999 Cummins 24-valve ISB in it. Badass!
theres not much difference in the 99 and 01 because my 01 looks the exact same in ever way (accept for my mods sucha as head light tail light a bunch of other lights) and the 1 ton suspension witch makes it sit higher up
Is it true that diesels should not be used for short daily commuting? Will it damage a diesel using a truck like this as a daily driver doing about 20 miles each way to work?
@mixflip Thats false, Diesel engine drive the same way as a gasoline engine, just slight different cycle, its true that it would be a waste to drive a 2500 dodge cummins on 20 mile commutes, might as well get a small car, but it will not hurt it. This truck is what you would buy when your hauling and work applications
@JTyler52 Thanks for answering that question. A buddy of mine said that to me and I was like... HUH? I dont want 2 vehicles and I feel like I need a truck for my lifestyle even though I dont haul trailers. I do carry alot of supplies in the bed and go off highway alot and I have been thinking about getting a diesel just because I know they can go 500,000 fairly easy with less maintenance than a gas engine. (built tougher I guess due to the higher operating pressures right?)
@Ps3Black0ps true, but still alota miles. i picked up a 2001 dodge 2500 diesel 24 valve for $4500 with 58,000 miles thats the best deal EVER! im from Connecticut. kbb value for that kind of truck is 15,000 bucks. him and his wife were getting a divorce and court gave her the truck she had no use for it and had no clue what it was worth, told he id give her 4500 messing around she said ok and was serious. ive put 20,000 miles on since then and not one single problem! not even broken in yet!
Look at the ugly interiour. All cheap hard plastics. No design whatsoever. Look at the super-ugly cloth on the doors.
Listen to the gigantic engine that is super loud, but produces (relatively) no power. Combined with an automatic gearbox that is as old fashioned as my grandma.
I can't say anything about the handling, but i figure it's pretty horrible as well.
@graffie I used to think the same way you do. I have omned Chevy trucks all my life, then I started looking more closely at Cummins. I never cared much for Dodge, but after researching their diesel trucks, I traded my 2004 Silverado Z71 in on a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 quad cab with a 5.9 Cummins, 6 speed manual transmission. There is no doubt in my mind that my Dodge is by far the best, most powerful, fuel efficient vehicle I have ever owned, and that the Cummins diesel is the best engine available.
@graffie thats what a truck is supposed to be like. You have to understand vehicles like these. They are supposed to sound loud but don't underestimate these trucks power. The 2500 and 3500 rams has plenty of power haul stuff. Just saying.

Awesome vid Kyle! If you want to see a Cummins Monte Carlo, type in "Diesel Monte Carlo" on the YT search engine. It's a 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with the 1999 Cummins 24-valve ISB in it. Badass!

drMINDdamage 10 months ago
theres not much difference in the 99 and 01 because my 01 looks the exact same in ever way (accept for my mods sucha as head light tail light a bunch of other lights) and the 1 ton suspension witch makes it sit higher up
Dillon2597 10 months ago
I'm not a fan of the cummins diesel engine sound
I like the sound of the ford powerstroke diesel engine

Is it true that diesels should not be used for short daily commuting? Will it damage a diesel using a truck like this as a daily driver doing about 20 miles each way to work?
mixflip 11 months ago
@mixflip Thats false, Diesel engine drive the same way as a gasoline engine, just slight different cycle, its true that it would be a waste to drive a 2500 dodge cummins on 20 mile commutes, might as well get a small car, but it will not hurt it. This truck is what you would buy when your hauling and work applications
JTyler52 11 months ago
@JTyler52 Thanks for answering that question. A buddy of mine said that to me and I was like... HUH? I dont want 2 vehicles and I feel like I need a truck for my lifestyle even though I dont haul trailers. I do carry alot of supplies in the bed and go off highway alot and I have been thinking about getting a diesel just because I know they can go 500,000 fairly easy with less maintenance than a gas engine. (built tougher I guess due to the higher operating pressures right?)

Ps3Black0ps 1 year ago
@Ps3Black0ps true, but still alota miles. i picked up a 2001 dodge 2500 diesel 24 valve for $4500 with 58,000 miles thats the best deal EVER! im from Connecticut. kbb value for that kind of truck is 15,000 bucks. him and his wife were getting a divorce and court gave her the truck she had no use for it and had no clue what it was worth, told he id give her 4500 messing around she said ok and was serious. ive put 20,000 miles on since then and not one single problem! not even broken in yet!

Only things good about the truck is the engine, everything else is garbage, pull the engine and take the rest to the scrap yard. crap dodges

I think it's a horrible car.
I can't say anything about the handling, but i figure it's pretty horrible as well.
graffie 1 year ago
@graffie I used to think the same way you do. I have omned Chevy trucks all my life, then I started looking more closely at Cummins. I never cared much for Dodge, but after researching their diesel trucks, I traded my 2004 Silverado Z71 in on a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 quad cab with a 5.9 Cummins, 6 speed manual transmission. There is no doubt in my mind that my Dodge is by far the best, most powerful, fuel efficient vehicle I have ever owned, and that the Cummins diesel is the best engine available.
Blue2004Z71 1 year ago
@graffie I love comments like these, it's so true. Only Americans would want a 5.9L engine in a pick-up...
04smallmj 1 year ago
@graffie thats what a truck is supposed to be like. You have to understand vehicles like these. They are supposed to sound loud but don't underestimate these trucks power. The 2500 and 3500 rams has plenty of power haul stuff. Just saying.
