We became incapable of asking for forgiveness. It took me several years before I was able to believe in God again. I choose Allah as my God once the notion of forgiveness to settled in.
In Islam we ask Allah for forgiveness. The only way for our sins to be forgiven is if Allah forgives it. We do not need to convince ourselves or anyone else that we regret all the bad doings we have done. Would Jesus count as one of those prophets? One of the earliest biographies of his life has him saying, quote, "I am the way and the truth and the life."
In other words he claimed that he was the one we should follow and believe in and that he's the one who can bring freedom and transformation in life.
If a prophet does not lie aside from those cases, none of which apply here, what should one do with that phrase? Should we accept it or discard it?
Prophets can't lie, but people writing about them can lie and falsely attribute statements to them - or take them out of context.
the Gospel of John was written 65 years after Jesus by an anonymous author. Nobody knows for sure if he said these things. And if he did, he clearly meant that as the prophet of his time, you can only get to God by following him.
It is clear from earlier statements of Jesus that he is only human, cannot do anything except what God tells / allows him.
It would be worthy noting that Jesus said the Father, meaning God as we have agreed, and elsewhere said 'I and the Father are one.' Again that link would help.

@Hammama I think he is talking more in the line of allowing oneself to open themsevles up to asking for forgiveness. Many of us who served in Vietnam never forgave ourselves. We became incapable of asking for forgiveness. It took me several years before I was able to believe in God again. I choose Allah as my God once the notion of forgiveness to settled in.

In Islam we ask Allah for forgiveness. The only way for our sins to be forgiven is if Allah forgives it. We do not need to convince ourselves or anyone else that we regret all the bad doings we have done. As long as we are sincere in our repentance to Allah and stop doing those bad things, we should be good to go inshallah!

@Hammama Walaykum Salaam, I agree with but the problem with Bauer is he dosen't comprehend what forgiveness is of course I fully understand its Hollywood glitter and fantasy but you have to understand that when you kill someone you become dead yourself. We aren't talking about stealing chocolate bars from a store when he was 7 years old. Allowing yourself to kill a human being is a very different beast that one releases in themsleves. The people one kills never go away.

Islam teaches that both faith and deeds are required. Simply believing in God doesn't mean we can be lazy and do nothing with the pretext that "it will never be good enough".
But at the same time, the Prophet Muhammad said, that though we are required to do good works, they alone will not get us to heaven, not even the Prophet's works, except by God's mercy.
It is a very rational belief.

One enters heaven with the mercy of God, as our good deeds alone are not enough when measured against the great blessing we have received and take for granted. However, our level also depends on our good deeds - and we must do good with the pure intention.
As for certainty, it is the similar to a student who studied hard for an exam and awaiting the results. He can never tell you "for sure" how he did, but he is confident in the justice and compassion of the judge, as well as his preparation

The fact that Jack wanted to talk to that guy, its really fuckin' far away from the stupid suspicious of "He contemplates, becoming a Muslim". In fact i believe its really racist.

Prophets do not lie. Which is one of the reasons the biblical stories of the prophets cannot all be true
In Islam lying is strictly forbidden, & allowed only in 3 cases:
- In war (but not to anyone you have a treaty with)
- To please your wife (e.g. you are the most beautiful of women)
- to mend relations (tell each party the other one praises him, and wants reconciliation)

Would Jesus count as one of those prophets? One of the earliest biographies of his life has him saying, quote, "I am the way and the truth and the life."
In other words he claimed that he was the one we should follow and believe in and that he's the one who can bring freedom and transformation in life.
If a prophet does not lie aside from those cases, none of which apply here, what should one do with that phrase? Should we accept it or discard it?

Prophets can't lie, but people writing about them can lie and falsely attribute statements to them - or take them out of context.
the Gospel of John was written 65 years after Jesus by an anonymous author. Nobody knows for sure if he said these things. And if he did, he clearly meant that as the prophet of his time, you can only get to God by following him.
It is clear from earlier statements of Jesus that he is only human, cannot do anything except what God tells / allows him.
