We use this technique all the time in my business. It basically sets the TARGET at ease. Alot of time when you meet someone new and don't know their intentions, you may be put off thinking "This person is never gonna go away if I start talking to them". The FTC is a posture. It's sets the target at ease, while simultaneously giving the PUA a reason to leave, and giving him the reason to make it quick and not overstay his welcome. Plus it adds social value to the PUA, because he has a life.
