Nevertheless the star was 150 solar masses and the explosion occured with such unimaginable force that a lot of the material was converted to gamma rays, what was left over would have expanded to the diameter of our solar system within the first day

Look at the real pictures of Eta Carine at NASA you can see it already has two large lobes either side of the central star and it hasn't even exploded yet.

lol light doesnt travel slowly. Light travels at a speed at approximately 186,282 miles per second, in a vacuum. There are 31,536,000 seconds in a 365 day year, so if you multiply that number by 186,282 miles, you will have the distance light would travel in a year. (approximately 5,874,589,152,000 miles). so in other words, the light from the exploding star is millions or billions of millions of miles away so they are just now reaching earth

When OUR sun dies that is what will happen. That's not true for every star. It depends on the stars mass and type to tell what will happen when it dies.

The sun doesn't have enough mass to become a black hole or a neutron star. But your right, it's outer layers will expand to become a Red Giant. They will then 'float' away forming planetary nebulae, leaving only the now collapsed core. At this stage, the star is a white dwarf. This then cools to become a black dwarf.

when the fuel of a star burns out which causes a supernova the light travels so far you can see it in another galaxy. but i doubt thats what you are seeing. very rarely do the death of a star happens in the milky way. And even then supernovas dont happen that often so maybe what your seeing is a Red giant or a comet. i watch alot of channels about the Universe and my study is in astronomy so im just trying to help you out :)
