would you consider sharing information as to how you machined the cutter.....o.d. of cutter ect .ect. i would like to build one or how you could be contacted......thank you Larry
CNC can be a lot of fun too. I love working on the 20 year old Deckel or Mazak CNC machines at school. We also have a new Fanuc controlled milling machine wich I hate. It's like a PC, errors every time I use it. No controls working properly...
I find conventional machines very relaxing in comparison.
i prefer conventional style latheing over cnc as well. cnc is definitely needed,especially when you need 1000 of the same parts,then its worth it to buy the program,but i work on a manual one every day. i currently have a big old burn on the back of my neck where some nice automat steal chips flew high up in the air,and came down.....right down the back of my shirt.
mmmmmmmmm it's nice to hear someone say they prefer to use manual machinery....I worked for a gear shaping company for 15 yrs and learned all i know there ,machine setting grinding turning milling etc ,I only wish I had got some qualifications!!!!! ,still doin ok working for myself in small workshop in hometown...are you on facebook?
Cool! I have had minimal access to Lathes but what I've done I've learnt my self. No one has lathes (mans machines) any more it's all this CNC stuff. My Grandad was a tool maker on the WW2 Air craft carriers then he was a tool maker at Fordmotorco. I would love to carry on in his foot steps. : )
yes ,,you could mount something off center in a 4 jaw independant chuck,but if you want holes in something in different positions its easier to use the mill

@slome815
That's rather odd. A properly set-up Fanuc control shouldn't give you any trouble.

Dumb question, but I haven't take a metal working class yet. Can you attach the workpiece to the tailstock to bore irregular holes in the piece?
