  • No you're not. You can't all be John Galt unless there is some sort of hive mind going on or something. Are you dudes like the dudes in Minority Report? You know, the bathtub dudes? Those dudes rule, and if you are then can I be one to?

  • lol aren't all the characteristics of John Galt apply to satan's characteristics. selfishness, greedy, narcissistic, live for ur self only, forget about others, wake up sheeple.

  • I find that most who dismiss Ayn Rand’s morality don’t really understand it. Her “selfishness” is long-term, principled self-interest. People are a combination of the physical and mental, and your self-interest includes psychological values. Self-interest is not to be reduced to only the physical, such as money. Other people can be of tremendous psychological value (i.e. friends, lovers, children.) Rand recognized that benevolence toward strangers is in one’s own interest, in a free country.

  • I'm John Galt, and I approve this message.

  • I dig the grain bin, but honestly a man who works for himself to serve others is a nice thing to do, but It creates lazy people.

  • wtf 0:30 - 0:36 random people in golf cart

  • John Galt has his head up his ass

  • John Galt? I don't know that motherfucker.

  • All I know is I'm reading catching fire, John Galt can wait a couple more chapters

  • brentalfloss

  • Vedere questo video mi fa stare bene.

  • Whos your daddy? :D

  • 'John Galt serves others by serving himself'?

smuggling a little altruism into the message here people?

    FAIL

  • what a stupid question. everyone is john galt and john galt is everyone. are you saying someone is not john galt? if so how dare you?

this video is meaningless unless the only reason is to bestow upon yourself some moral claim for the sake of feel good. if you really look at it that moral claim you attribute to yourself is naturally found in any sane human being. what i mean is you are not exclusively bestowed with that morality because of reading the book and chanting john galt john galt!

  • John Galt Theory

  • John Galt is the thing that socialist liberals fear the most. ;-)

  • LOL Neckbeard at 0:39

  • It's in 0:36's rational self-interest to show me them tittyballs

  • John Galt?

What did Rand admire so much about Hickman? His sociopathic qualities: "Other people do not exist for him, and he does not see why they should," she wrote, gushing that Hickman had "no regard whatsoever for all that society holds sacred, and with a consciousness all his own. He has the true, innate psychology of a Superman. He can never realize and feel 'other people.'" Now, ANYONE who doesn't see a pathology in the quote above should seriously seek help themselves. THIS is John Galt.

  • John Galt is an impossible human being that exists only in poorly written middle school philosophy books. He exists only as an allegory to which sociologists managed to prove impossible in human society decades ago. He is the iconic head of a movement of idiots who follow the words of someone who doesn't exist and never has existed.

    That's who he is.

  • @snipzor If human beings can think independently, then there is nothing stopping them from doing so consistently. If someone can think independently consistently, then John Galt, qua archetype, is possible. In implying that sociologists have "proved" that independent thought is impossible, you are effectively saying that you have independently judged that independent judgment is impossible.

  • @SwordOfApollo I'm going to guess you approve of the word independent so much, you use it more than the word if and is. There's a serious difference between independence (Which in a society is impossible because we all rely on each other in some way or another) and anti-society.

Atlas Shrugged was the shittiest book I ever read, and John Galt's billion page speech was the dumbest thing I have ever read. I can sum up the entire thing in one sentence. "Fuck you, I'm on my own". What utter crap.

  • @snipzor "There's a difference between...independence (Which in a society is impossible because we all rely on each other in some way or another) and anti-society."

"Independent" does not mean "isolated." Galt lives in a society throughout the novel, and wouldn't desire otherwise. But those who produce wealth don't (and can't) rely on those who don't, let alone make it their job to steal it. In making money, you do not rely on the thief who grabs it, or on the bum who begs for it.

  • @snipzor If you were right in believing people can't think for themselves, then you must just be blindly following others. The same would be true for any sociologists that you might care to cite. Thus, your position is self-refuting. The same situation applies if you mean that human beings are emotionalist--and therefore, irrational--by nature. Anyone claiming that people are incapable of independent thought is committing The Fallacy of Self-Exception.

  • @snipzor If you are claiming that human beings are incapable of consistently acting based on their rational thought because their irrational whims will always overpower them, you need only look at the scientific practices of scientists like Newton, Galileo, or Lavoisier, or the business practices of Commodore Vanderbilt, or J. J. Hill for counter-examples. It takes consistent rationality to make an important scientific discovery, or to build a successful business.

  • @snipzor There is a lot of empirical evidence that contradicts your claim, (and that of sociologists who always interpret their observations in line with their prior philosophical belief that independent thought is impossible.) Yet you come in and blithely assert that consistent rationality across all of life is impossible, such that we should not strive for it. The only alternative to rationality is, of course, irrationality, and with it comes suffering and self-destruction.

  • @snipzor If you want to know whether consistent rationality is possible, strive for it; it's your only chance at a real, deep, lasting happiness. I would suggest starting with reading the nonfiction of Ayn Rand.

  • lame

  • @mcdstuff Go get informed and read some more before posting.I don't debate leftist fanatics who are lacking any information about this topic.Your reaction is typically leftist - lies and insults.

  • I am doing the selfless act of being selfish! John Galt rules without opression.

I am and have been John Galt since 1976.

I have "gone Galt" since 2008, hope to end it in 2012.

I had shut down my business with the election of B.O., I will not give one more cent to the government that I do not have to. Why earn more if we can't keep 90% of it?

  • For close to 4 years my commercial website had the question on the footer of EVERY PAGE. "Who is John Galt?" I knew the answer befor I posed the question.

I was a hope that the text did not fall on ignorant eyes, I meant the question to be answered by those that knew the answer and to be researhed by those that did not know the proper answer. My hope was at the very least that I enlightened at least one person, and maybe that person would pick up the torch and run with it.

  • In times like these, all of us could learn from John Galt !!!

  • Unfortunetly despite her genius in book writing and her understanding of corporate monopolies and the people who run them, Ayn Rand could not see the wood for the trees and her carcature of unique people like Howard Roark in the Fountainhead are completely ficticious and cannot live in the Real World of demand and supply.

  • what is wrong with metaphysics? I believe there are two realities one of the mind and the second one, the physical, that is manifested from the first. We are all John Galt and John Galt is us. We come from star dust people. Yay!!!!!!!

  • Stop the socialist hypocrisy !! Greed is good !!!

  • @superesterhazy Positive selfishness does not relate to greed. Greed, by its definition, is "a rapacious desire, especially for wealth or possesions." Greed is the embodiment of consuming far more than is necessary for an individual. Positive selfishness as a virture is the embodiment of producing for your own sake, which can never reach any limit--only the limit one puts on his or herself. While I agree with the "socialist hypocrisy," I do not believe greed was, is, or ever will be good.

  • @Laxanii I take greed in a very broad meaning - greed for life, greed for happiness, greed for achievements, greed for knowledge, and so on,but never in the very narow meaning of buying a double sized refrigerator, filling it 200%,and then throwing away half its content. That would be pure stupidity. But the economy cannot function properly without the businessmen being rapacious, and an individual consuming only the minimum necessary is the definition of a primitive economy in a tribal society.

  • @superesterhazy Consuming the minimum will indeed bring us back to a primitive society, but greed is a general term where one takes far too much for him/herself in the name of their unwillinglness to see that they harm the people that provide for them. You can never truly produce too much. It's not greedy to produce as much as you desire, but it's greedy to feed off the profits of productive people. My idea of greed lies with mouchers and looters, not those of a mind who produce at full ability.

  • @Laxanii Greed is good when it is not founded on the idea of harming the other in order to accomplish a goal.In a company, the employees are proving a healthy greed when trying to negociate a better salary with the employer. But greed turns into crime when they want to harm him or even worse, when the government is stealing the company away from him, claiming he should be punished for creating jobs and making a profit, instead of being an employee. It happenned like this in the socialist countries.

  • @superesterhazy I see productive selfishness when an employee seeks a higher wage. When a person reaches a state of greed, they have let their own selfishness become a corrupt morality. While selfishness is virtuous, a truly greedy man will hurt others to get what he wants. If you are productive and successful while others who fail to attain such status damn you for your achievements, that does not make you greedy.

I understand what you're saying, but I still view greed as a negative in ego.

  • I am the batman.

  • These men and women created eveything we have become dependent on so think about that the next time you use anything you didn't create for yourself. You say John Galt is a threat to the planet and economy but you depend on all the things created by him and his ideals. Good luck without him.Who is John Galt? The capitalist people like you fear because you refuse to think.

  • for the destruction of other people. John Galt is the best he can be and gladly takes up the challenge when someone strives to be better than him. Every big company has this same goal in mind, and it serves to create a healthy economy. Without this ideal there would be no Apple, DOW, Ford, Microsoft, or any other big corporation you can think of. Yes they create products based on customer needs, but the ultimate goal is to receive the money they earned and no one has a right to what they earned.

  • @BalazersBrain Yes John Galt's only goal is to make money. If no one's goal was to make money there would be no economy. His drive to be the best at whatever he does is the best that any human can do here on earth. Without drive to make money, the world and the economy would collapse. Money is simply the tool used by men who think to trade with each other for the best they have. To compare him with Bin Laden is an insult and a falsehood. Bin Laden is a murderer who cares for himself and wishes

  • fuck john galt

  • Who is John Galt? a cheap copy of Henry Galt.

  • Beautiful

  • I am John Galt!

I loved your video! I believe the text of your video should be read daily!

Thanks for posting, Im just sorry it took me so long to find it!

    Eric in Tennessee

  • Atlas is Shrugging...

  • your a idiot

  • And I am Howard Roark!

  • Hello Miss.John Galt.

  • I am John Galt!

  • i have a poster of that question on my arwing

  • @codemonkeyslikeme like in star fox?

  • The ones who said, "John Galt serves others by serving himself," and, "John Galt lives in a physical reality, not a metaphysical one," should check their premises. Both are misleading statements if not outright false.

  • i threw up ugggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

this is disgustingly corny, fake and odious

  • John Galt's only goal is to make money, despite the consequences to the environment, the economy, or anything else that may stand between him and his riches.

  • @BalazarsBrain Clearly you have not read or understood a thing about John Galt, Atlas Shrugged or Objectivisim

  • @Brucejc37

You have yet to explain what was wrong or inaccurate about my statement...you merely hurled a weak insult.

Clearly you have not read or understood a thing about making a proper argument.

"my only goal is to make money" -Hank Rearden

  • @BalazarsBrain Your statement "despite the consequences to the environment, the economy, or anything else that may stand between him and his riches." does not jibe with John Galt, Atlas Shrugged or Objectivism. No where is there anything else than rational self-interest. which means responsible actions which preclude doing anything which harms the environment, economy, etc. You have applied that statement as you obviously do not understand "rational self-interest".

  • @Brucejc37

"which means responsible actions blah blah blah"

Are you SERIOUS??? WRONG! What happens when your "rational self-interest" is to make money, but in order to make money you must run a company that pollutes the environment?

Under "rational self-interest" do you think the individual will choose their self interest which is money?...or will they bow down to the will of society?

Please, try making a logical argument this time.

  • @BalazarsBrain You do realize that polluting the environment outside your property harms other individuals, right? It is rational to think that their must be some compensation if this happens. And that is where a limited government becomes involved. No conflicts here that I see applying rational self interests.

  • @BalazarsBrain Runs a company that pollutes the environment? What is the business model on that one? lol

  • Who is John Galt? Umm, how about the literary equivalent of Christian from Pilgrim's Progress used to justify a simplistic world view that somehow got mistaken for rational thought...

  • Who is John Galt?

As the name implies, this is inspired by the character of John Galt, the "hero" of Ayn Rand's Objectivist doorstopper, Atlas Shrugged, who destroys civilization to avoid paying taxes. They apparently think this is a good idea, and hope to follow in his footsteps.

In the novel, John Galt declared his opposition to collectivism by starting a, heh, collective called Galt's Gulch. He expressed his opposition to organized labor by organizing (what else?) a strike.

  • John Galt is a robber baron fantasy. As real as the easter bunny.

  • One guy in this video said that one can serve others by serving oneself. Since when has serving others been a professed goal of any objectivist? Who chose to incorporate that into this series?

  • What will John Galt do when he gets a disease and needs treatment which was made possible through way of government subsidized medical studies?

  • I wonder if they're John Galt.

  • This was very inspiring and uplifting. Great job to all involve...

  • "nor ask another man to live for mine." Whoops, you just lost your labor force.

  • Amazing video. Amazing message. Bravo!

  • Great video. John Galt may is a very inspirational figure. Althoguh fictional he provides an excellent example of what is possible once we stop demanding that people live for our sake. It is not to our benifit to foce other men to live for our benifit, it reduces us. Only once we live for our own sake and ask others to do the same can we truly achive greatness.

  • Have you ever watched any of the interviews of Ayn Rand on youtube? Among many other things, the thing that strikes me is that she was actually very funny.

I can't wait for the movie and it's open on (fittingly enough) April 15.

  • @RicoLen1 Yes I have, very sharp lady! I'm also excited to see where they take the movie.

  • yet to fully understand what? Jesus is the son of God? Ok sure for arguments sake he is. But what does that mean? What are the practical implications of his philosophy?

  • Jesus' example was to enlighten us and to banish traditions that were meaningless and held no spiritual value. He taught a life of self sacrifice and true love. Men is responsible for wars not god it was the catholic church that began the heresy. When did Jesus live off the bounty of others didnt he feed people? and more than food he provided truth and thats what life is about finding out the truth and helping others discover that as well. And Unemployed? Im pretty sure he was a carpenter

  • Jesus is the only example we need

  • @treekilla123 with all due respect, the example of Jesus is a man who was unemployed, never sought work, lived off the bounty of others, and began a religious war that carries on to this day

  • @Moth5 Jesus' example was to enlighten us and to banish traditions that were meaningless and held no spiritual value. He taught a life of self sacrifice and true love. Men is responsible for wars not god it was the catholic church that began the heresy. When did Jesus live off the bounty of others didnt he feed people? and more than food he provided truth and thats what life is about finding out the truth and helping others discover that as well.

  • @Moth5 And Unemployed? Im pretty sure he was a carpenter and taught his disciples to pay they're taxes. And whos bounty did he live off of? Gods, just like we all do even you.

  • @treekilla123 His father was a carpenter. Sure Jesus may have helped out, but his adult life was composed of him and his disciples wandering around. They slept wherever someone would accommodate them. They ate from the common the surplus of the farmers around them. His example is worthless because he only gave people temporary gratification. Even if he did cure people of disease, what are they supposed to then? Give up everything and follow? Ok sure, then no one farms and no one has food.

  • @Moth5 His ministry only lasted about 3 years so he couldnt have been "free loading" for that long. The reason he traveled was to spread a positive message. Never did he say to not feed yourselves he just taught not to worry so much about it. And his "temporary" gratification is still influencing people, true followers, 2,000 years later. I guess its all perception, i percieve him as a great teacher that can better your life, you percieve him as a bum because you have yet to fully understand

  • This was great!

    Thank you.

  • @manofoss Glad you enjoyed it!

  • Sounds like John Galt is a self absorbed asshole. I am NOT John Galt!

  • @expressomax John Galt as a fictional character was supposed to represent the potentiality of man. All of the virtuous characteristics of him professed in this video are supposed to be principles by which all men can strive toward. It "sounds" like someone hasn't done their homework.

  • @AlexanderEBott No, I knew the reference, I just don't believe that Ayn Rand understood human nature, and I disagree with the majority of her beliefs.

  • Really inspiring! This vid comes at a great time, if we could all be a john galt a lot of improvements would be made in the world!

  • Congratulations everyone in the video, I believe this video will really help introduce both book Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand and its philosophy of Objectivism.
