  • thank you SO much for posting this, absolutely brilliant!

  • This is one of the best albums ever made.

  • Utterly beautiful video..utterly beautiful song. One of my greatest loved of Annie's.xx

  • she is so beautiful

  • For time will catch us in both hands To blow away like grains of sand Ashes to ashes rust to dust This is what becomes of us Sweetheart Send me to sleep Pray to God our hopes to keep Take our fears and make us strong Lead us to where we belong And let it all go by All go by...
  • Sweetheart The sun has set All red and primitive above our heads Blood stained on an ageless sky Wipe your tears and let the salt stains dry Let them all run dry All run dry... Sweetheart Take me to bed That's where all our prayers are said Whispered silent in the night That's how all our dreams take flight Let them all go by All go by...
  • Love the song. Does anyone have the tablature?

  • absolutely amazing song ! :-)

  • ¡¡¡DIVA!!!

  • Annie Lennox always manages to get my soul caught up in her music whenever I listen to it.

  • Annie is Divine.

  • She's algid, unreachable, a true diva.

  • Ethereal, algid, unreachable, and, at the same time, so feminine, so much heat in her voice, so warm in the hold that keeps you heart.

  • I watched the light in the water and Annies voice drifted thru

  • MARAVILLOSA!!!!!

  • her dress *big eyes*

    love her style and makeup...

  • thank you for posting....Ms Lennox Rules All!

  • I thought "Bare" was a great album - I think along with "Diva" my favourite of Annie's. "Bare" was appropriately timed for me, though. It was my 'soundtrack' for a while!

  • I remember way back in the day, when MTV's House of Style was young and Cindy Crawford was the host, one episode's end credits was honoring Audrey Hepburn (this was a few days after her death) and they used this song in her tribute.

  • Lovely song from the bottom of her heart .Very like it.

  • What a lovely song.

  • That song melts as snowflakes on my ears and transports me elsewhere in a gentle watery world. Her songs always ravish me and exalt my soul.

  • i like to listen to this song before I go to sleep, it has that dream like quality to it...

"take me to bed that's where all our prayer are said..."

  • there's a fair few songs by Annie that I have to relisten to, not because I like them, but because I didn't see the beauty of them when I first listened to them, and this is one of them. I love the raw beauty of the lyrics and the tones of her voice are enveloping and comforting

  • Actually that scream at the end is a background voice part from song "Why" (it's like WhaaaaaaaaaaaaY with echo enhanced). Listen carefully and you'll notice it too.

  • you wannabees - remember "The Tourists"? oh - sorry you weren't born then....

  • OMGGGGGGG

  • She is so amazing!! Does anyone if she writes most of her music?

  • @sassywheels she writes most of her music. This song was written by her and so was the entire Diva album except of one track which was a cover of a 1933 song Keep Young and Beautiful.

  • She is soo flawless. A timeless voice... a beacon for a generation. She'll be taught in universities centuries from now.

  • For time will catch us in both hands to blow away like grains of sand .Ashes to ashes rust to dust ,this is what becomes of us.... this song is awesome.

  • my god this song is just amazing! what a great collections of songs she had on the Diva album. Its just perfection.

  • Sweetheart, the sun has set, all red and primitive above our heads, bloodstained on an ageless sky, wipe your tears and let the salt stains dry, let them all run dry... Sweetheart take me to bed, that's where all our prayers are said, whispered silent in the night, that's how all our dreams take flight.. For time will catch us in both hands, to blow away like grains of sand.... LIBERATION.

  • There was no comparison in the first place. Two totally different levels. One is Pop, the other is timeless.

  • Amo essa canção: love!

  • shes a true diva...HELL YA!!

  • Wonderful lyrics; however, what's with the blindfold & painful scream at the end?

  • im not sure...but thats annie for you...

  • @39DegreesN - the blindfold and 'painful scream' as you put it is actually the beginning of another video/song and this posting just hasn't been edited with precision

  • I totally agree! Magnificent!

  • My favorite Annie song ever!! Have listened to this song at least 8000 times!

  • She´s an angel

For time will catch us in both hands

to blow away like grains of sand

  • I love the lyrics ...

On a tough day in the rat race ...

I come here like a drifter up on the roof

    To find personal peace ...

    and remember ....

Time will catch us in both hands

to blow away like gains of sand

  • the whole Diva thing was awe-inspiring, come to think of it so was everything else that she did.(and does!)

  • Wow!

Amazing! I love her so much!

  • Such versatility we hear and see from Annie. Then she can stun us with something like this.

    Thanks for sharing.

    5/5

  • Not enough can be said about the beauty of the imagery in this video on many levels.

The music, should be just piped into the world and I think we might lose a lot of our problems...

It leads you right into a meditative peaceful place.

HAS TO BE one of your best AnnieLennox.

  • 2:45+

    Naturallly

  • Scottymac: I'm there and gravitated toward it ... and I love it, too--there's so much comfort coming from this woman as she presents us with reality ... I am wrapped in the arms of her voice.

  • There is magic in these Lyrics, Tones, Head-space ....

    2:15+

  • I dig it very much...Annie Lennox. Long time fan...she is it.

  • * Brilliant *

  • Great Voice!!! Annie '' I love you''

  • I love you !!!!! this is so touchable

  • i love to listen to this song when i am stressed and it makes me think of egypt when the ancient egytions ruled i love this song. its so calming.

  • She's an angel... one delightful, precious angel.

  • This song reminds me of going through my divorce......Love it!

  • During a difficult period of my life I would listen to this song and imagine this woman singing to me and it helped.

  • You are not the only one that happened, I thought the same thing and it really helped me a lot

  • "Sweetheart

    Take me to bed

That's where all our prayers are said

    Whispered silent in the night

That's how all our dreams take flight

    Let them all go by

    All go by....."

    Breathtaking...isn't it? I think so... :)

  • Yes, absolutely breathtaking....

Thank Annie for her soft strength!

  • I don't understand if the city of the video is Venice or not..

  • what an artist ... sings like an angel. so much style and talent. we need to give more like her out there (and they're out there) the opportunity to shine.

    i love you, annie lennox.......

  • I love this album...and all those great videos.

  • DIVA, my favorite CD ever. No one can match the talent of Annie Lennox.

  • yes, Diva is a perfect magic album

  • This is a beautiful song and I adore Annie's voice. The poor thing, she looks a little ill in this video though! You don't s'pose she was seasick do you?

  • should have used the Ganges River in India instead, befits this Hindu song.

  • Perfect!!!

  • how smart to use venice as a background, fits to the music...

  • Holy cow, those last few seconds of that video gave me the shivers o.o Like Fatal Frame's Blinded ghost...except...prettier

  • OMG, its magic song, thank You :-)

  • Yes my sister ... It Is Magic...

    and truth!

  • Love Annie and the song. Is it absolutely perverse to think of Madonna's "Like A Virgin" video when I watch this? lol As artists, they are on polar opposites of the spectrum of music, so it's interesting to note their interpretation of Venice as the setting for their respective videos.

Give "Like a Virgin" on a Friday night and "Primitive" on a Sunday afternoon.

  • I love the comparison. Used to be a big fan of Madonna but all her new stuff seems hubris to me. Annie is still the more enduring artist.

  • yeh,,, though they just can't be compared... madonna is a star,, annie is an artist,, and a star

  • I agree but it makes great comparison of who a singer who built a career based on image versus a singer who built a career with substance. Nice to hear from a fellow AL fan.

  • It a feeling of innocents

    In a Sense !

  • A favorite for some time, and the intro on the video only adds to the effect. "Blood stained on an ageless sky"...... so profound. There are only a couple songs that can completely clear my head.

  • I have not seen the introduction segment for sometime. It was as if a dam burst within me. If I am correct I believe the intro part is titled "Remember". Huge Thank You for posting this.

  • Yeah, really great intro. Great video as well, wonderful imagery showing yet another side of the adorable Annie Lennox...

  • I lost a child like Annie did...this song reflect that feeling PERFECTLY. I adore her until I die...

  • thanx 2u my wonderful angel I've met this wonderful song..

  • very great song, super kawałek ! :-)

  • My tears cloud my own eyes.

  • i remember when i baught this album i was going through a realy hard breakup. this song and many other songs gave me strengh. this one always makes me feel better by letting go the bad and remembering the good! i love annie!!!!

  • It reminds me of being on the back of a pick-up truck, riding on a dirt road, going back to a farm house in Southern Chile, which was home at that time.

  • I come to this space when I need to remember what is important in life ... 4:10 4:44

We are ants in the army of life. No Grudges. No Ego. Love and Peace to All!

I thank Annie Lennox for her amazing insite. She is still working globally to improve the human condition. To me she is an absolute Goddess because of her universal heartfelt wisdoms.

  • GREAT SONG THE VIDEO DOES IT NO JUSTICE

  • Such a beautiful song......absolutely love it. There's something so haunting about it.

  • Love this song. This CD was absolute genius and will (should) go down as a masterpiece. Annie Lennox is a true artist and hope she continues her craft.

  • everything before 2:18 is filler - check out the body ... 2:19 on ...

  • Wow...I haven't heard this song for ages. Heard it a lot in 1993 when I was in the former Jugoslavia as a UN soldier. So wierd - this video was made in Venice at the same time only a few hundred km from the rage and killings. Nearly too emotional for me. Such a strong song.

  • She is art... pure art.

  • great quality...

    love this song :)

  • Perfect!!!...

  • I love this song so much, it is a spiritual experience everytime I hear it. Thank you Annie, for giving us this treasure!

  • Whoops, I just tried to reply to somebody and deleted their post by mistake.

I really shouldn't do this when drunk.

  • @wylam2 you should not get drunk in anycase. Your brain is the only good thing that nobody can't steel you.

Fucking it with alchool is stupid.

  • Amazing how some of you sit here and pick apart someone's work of art.... sad really.... just sad. Great song by the way!

  • Annie was so sexy with dark hair...:)

  • God I love her, what a woman, what an artist! Soulful, colourful, beautyful songs... Diva!

  • beautiful, the bit at the end kind of fits, like it was all a dream and your woken up to the harshness of reality

  • Wow better than the album version! I really like the added instrumental at the begining of the video.

  • assolutamente belle ed esotica!

  • I am (blissfully) primitive...

  • Lovely

  • Cult of ego?

    Jesus Christ.

  • karmanu,

    Say WHAT?!

This video is the definition of sublime, nuff said.

  • Primitive is quite possibly the most beautiful song I've ever heard....

  • DIVA

  • "written" "Michael" "Ain't" "great?" FUCKWIT!

  • Annie is one of those very rare and radiant creatures that looks absolutely stunning in milk white skin. I love her music, her odd but passionate physical expression. She's a fascinating woman.

  • I hate to say this, but with some exceptions, the videos for "Diva" really aren't all that interesting, which is a shame because the songs are AMAZING

  • you're mad, darling, these videos are much more interesting than modern ones, she was really creative and a real stage artist.

I miss her. I mean she's getting older, nothing bad, but I miss her.

  • this song and the diva album are my favorite from annie thanks she looks beautiful!!

  • Afraid not, it was written by Annie Lennox!

  • Part of this song is featured near the end of a movie I like: "Holy smoke", by the same director as "The Piano".

  • thanks cute dorkling :o)

  • "... take me to bed

that's where all our prayers are said..."

Brilliant line! So many different ways to interpret it. The whole song is full of great lines, but that one stands out particularly. I like the Bollywood samples in the background too. Surprisingly restful.

  • Annie's videos always showcase her songs as she must visualize them in her mind. What a brilliantly talented lady.Thank you for posting

  • tristounette annie !!!!!

  • - "Lead us to where we belong"

    - I belong you, you belong me.

  • this is a great vid and song and the reason why utube is so popular. mtv how it should be

  • Yeah, how it used to be too. Lovely song

  • Thank you for dropping this! This is one of my fav videos from Annie! Its just simply beautiful as is Annie herself!!

  • Madonna can't sing.Period.

  • I loved DIVA, Medusa I am not very fond of. Bare was beautiful but tp depressive. (that song Oh, God is just to much brrrr)

  • yes... the " oh God" song is too much.. I cant listen to it and that is rare for me with annies powerfull and beautiful voice

  • Annie was suffering from chronic depression, and is still fighting it. In retrospect, alot of the songs on Diva make sense in light of that knowledge.

  • it's why she's a Diva and Maddona is just a singer

  • I like her alot.... But she seems to take herself very seriously....

Her last album BARE was so self absorbed it was painfull to listen too.

DIVA is staggering...wish she showed her sense of humor more..

  • I never know quite what people mean when they complain about an album being "self-absorbed"... well, of course it is. All performers are self-absorbed; most creative people are. Songs come from inside, they reflect the writer's feelings and experiences. I honestly don't know how they could be NOT self-absorbed...?

  • When an artist repeats themselves over and over again on a single project its redundant...the brilliance of annie is that before BARE.. she had an opinion and perspective that was eloquent and moving, on DIVA she engaged the listener with agian the same themes.. but it worked. When an artist gets out of there own way they are a channel.. on BARE Annie seemed painfully self consious. FOR THE RECORD... I have worked with Annie..she is aware of BARE NOT being her most inspired record...

  • Heh, come on now.

  • had they come out in reverse order.. i doubt you'd be saying the same thing...

  • music is timless...your right.I wouldnt say the same if they came out in reverse order! I would be praising Diva as a tremendously brave and thoughtfull follow up to a whiny and self aware B+ record.

  • youve missed my point... but no worries...

  • I know what you mean. Isn't art supposed to be a reflection of the artist? It's not an album about bob and janes perspective, it's about the artist's.

On the other hand, if you mean that Bare is pretty single-themed, that's true. It's Annie Lennox feeling low, exposed, struggling, and... bare. If you've ever had to deal with major grief, you can identify with Bare.

  • good point..

I had experienced alot of grief and depression when I listened to DIVA!

it was so soothing and comforting...

    BARE seemed whiny and victimy..

  • Got to agree with houseofstorm here. Bare was a very weak album, easily the poorest thing I've come across by Annie. A couple of decent songs but the rest just didn't work. Weapons of Mass Destruction (despite the awful name) is a hell of a lot better thankfully.

  • @wylam2 That's just crazy talk. LOL. At least six out of the eleven songs on the album are VERY STRONG. Do you dance?

  • She is a clear example of perfection

  • OK people, don't cringe but I just find a parallel with Madonna (the commercial queen of re invention) and Lennox (the "thinking mans" queen of re invention, plus vocal talent unmatched....).....Not that I ever would compare the two but both always come up with amazing "visual/vocal experiments" albeit each in their own manner....Madonna probably to fill the current public demand of "what's hot" and Annie her OWN demands of "what's good and challenging"....

  • Come on!! You cannot put Madonna and voice in the same sentence... Madonna and business or contoversy yes but not voice.

  • Of course not! The comparison is more along the lines of image re inventing.....as SINGING talent there's no comparison possible....Lennox has a VOICE that also happens to be very unique and always knows how to use it properly....As acting goes, shame Annie has only had a few cameos in the past but imagine her "dramatic persona" would transfer fantastically on screen.....Madonna has proven many times that she tries acting.....TRIES.......

  • Hahahahahha I absolutely agree with you. I think that Annie's style is very much personal. It's her meanwhile Madonna is someone-else-at-the-back.

  • she is the queen of ballads.

  • I love her - Her voice speaks my mind.

  • great song from a superb album

  • Primitive always reminds me of sweet dreams dying when she does the back grounds (the moan-like sound)... luv this song...

  • I swear she reminds me of a female David Bowie...

  • David Bowie and Annie Lennox are the same being. It really just depends on what kind of mood the thing is in.

  • Not at all.

  • This song strikes a primal chord in me and one of my favorites from Annie. Annie Lennox is brilliant! I saw her perform live during her "Bare" tour and she was amazing!

  • Primitive is without doubt one of my favorite songs; ever. Thanks for sharing this vid!

  • she's not only a great diva, but also a great song writer!

  • Yes, indeed, one of the very best living today!

She is simply incredible in my estimation!

  • shes one strange lady

  • Stunning. she looks almost cat-like in this video
