  • At least they kept a nod to the original by running a new Pink Panther short in between the 2 "...and Sons" cartoons.

  • This should have never been a series, c'mon, we need The Inspector and Little Man!

  • This was one of the cooler rehash cartoons.. that and Muppet Babies

  • "cartoons...that never made it"

  • @Aja4000 That's a good mindset to view this!

  • God... I wish Friz Freleng would have just put his foot down and stopped this awful project in early development.

  • Hasn't that kid ever heard of nappy tape?

  • From @EHH246: Moral of the story? Keep Hanna-Barbera far far away from anyone's else work, especially DePatie-Freleng.

You're dead on! Hanna-Barbera already fuck up Scooby Doo and The Smurfs, and they're trying to destroy DePatie-Freleng's The Pink Panther? The copying someone else's material and trying to take it as your own. Total Cheats!!! I heard Hanna-Barbera was trying to get a hold of another person's work...Filmation and Ruby-Spears! Don't fuck with Thundarr and The Archies.please!

  • awww I love panky <3

  • When I watch this for some reason, it makes me want to eat an otter pop.

  • Comment removed

  • Is Pink Panther standing in front of a mirror? Also, I remember watching some of the rerun cartoons of Pink Panther and sons when I was small. Good times though, but I never saw the op until now :3 I love classic Pink Panther

  • whos the mother?

  • double panthers? what does it mean!?!

  • Who owns this series? It was produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions.

In 1984, MGM acquired United Artists(the original produced of these cartoons).

So it must be Warner Bors. that owns it,so I may be wrong.

  • @rayssonation No MGM does as far as I know.

  • @RetroToledo The people at Hanna-Barbera Australia did this cartoon and I thought the animation for Pink Panther and Sons was lousy. Thankfully, about 8 years later when they decided to have the staff at MGM animation studios in Culver City, California do that, I felt it looked much like what DePatie and Freleng wanted all that time.

  • @jnadle1 It certainly depended on staff and budget I guess.

  • The Pink Panther returned to Saturday Morning television after more than five years in 1984 with the new format "Pink Panther and Sons",that was produced by DePatie and Freleng under Hanna-Barbera Productions. This also lasted one season until 1985.

  • @rayssonation No Shit!

  • Well you can tell without even looking at the caption information that it's an 80's cartoon. The animation is from that era, yes, but the theme song just SCREAMS it.

  • This is an amalgam between the original Pink Panther art design and typical 80s cartoon concepts.

  • I didn't realy like this when it first came out. I just felt like they were cheapening the PP cartoons of the past.

  • The Rainbow Panthers were a direct dig at the care bears. The Care Bears were famous back in the 80s so its very funny to see Hanna-Barbera take fun of them at the time.

  • Well, where's the mother? She probably killed herself after watching this horrible intro.

  • Fortunately after this catoon was made he had a change of heart and gave them up for adoption. The tall one is doing just fine in London Zoo eating meat every day and getting lots of exercise, but the other one with the nappy had to be put down. No one wants an incontinent panther.

  • I used to watch this as a kid. Great times.

  • I think MGM & Warner Bros. jointy own this show for 2 reason:

    1. Hanna-Barbera is now own by Warner Bros. Entertainment.

    2. MGM owns the right to The Pink Panther.

  • Is it a necessarily bad thing when the intro is better than the entire series?

  • See when people talk about how far downhill TV has fallen these days... remember crap like this? The Fonz And The Happy Days Gang? Popeye & Son? All absolute crap.

  • @eszettfromhell they remember the classic hits, then forget shit like this. In fact, when I used to go to the Toonzone forum, I remember someone mentioning one of his friends' dads did the scheduling for the Saturday Morning cartoon blocks in the '70s and '80s; he FUCKING HATED the job. Can you imagine all the schlock the poor guy had to wade thru to get to some classics?

  • @KingRandor82 Yeah, really. You'd just go home and drink yourself silly having to watch things like this.

  • Pink Panther and Sons, huh? An interesting consept, however... Annie and Chatta are sons? o.0;;; It would be better Pink Panther and Kids or Children. Isn't Annie and Chatta a daughter?

  • Why not just REMAKE this series, and stick true to the Seires' original title?

I say that because I think it was suppose to be called "Pink Panther And Sons"

for a reason. Despite the fact that it didn't feature the title character through out

the series, I guess it's pretty good still.

  • the 80's were truly a dark age for TV animation.

  • "Sons of the Panther" sounds pretty badass. Shame it was wasted on this...

  • love that pin panter dirint like the pink panter and that much old school pink rules

  • i love the pink panther and sons cartoon series

  • It wasn't too bad. Never really got into it though.

I did like the interstitial segments with just the Pink Panther and the Little Man.

So was this Friz Freleng's only involvement with Hanna-Barbera?

  • My gosh how I hate "taking children for fools" '80-s. Stupid music, miserable cliches. Shame.

  • @Silentzio Oh yeah. This was a total and complete disgrace to the actually FUNNY cartoons, and just a sign of the repressive 1980's studio execs forcing offspring on characters that didn't need them. Cliches indeed! I watched one of these not too long ago and was mortified.

  • Man there's a lot of things I missed. I had just been born when this came out, so I never knew about it.

  • Ah, I remember watching reruns of this...Wish it still aired, I actually liked it.

  • In the cartoon world (excluding adult cartoons), it is to be believed that cartoon men are the pregnant ones.

  • Hard to believe this was made in 1984, the whole thing is very, very 70s.

  • While I've never seen the show, the theme song is pretty catchy.

  • @Spock2 that makes two of us.

all I've seen of these panthers was bed sheets (I think)

  • Oh man I hate when they do a cute version of a classic cartoon, I'm glad it tanked.

  • wait.... who did pink panther did it with??

    you know to have babies...

  • I was 6 years old when this came out. And I would try my best to sing that harmonizing part.

Sons of the panther, the pink pink panther alllriiiiteee, whooaaaa...but I couldn't pronounce my r's, so it came out jacked up. =P

  • the little son with the diaper his voice is the same voice as whopper from pound puppies

  • OMG, I totally forgot this cartoon until youtube reminded me of it.

  • How many Pink panther spinoff shows does that make now?

  • what!?!

    i didnt know this happend!

    haha

  • Never mind, I guess he is.

  • Can anyone tell me if Friz Freleng was involved in this Hanna Barbera version of the Pink Panther?

  • @pedalpunk57 Probably enough to get his name in the opening title.

  • If the one in the dress is the pink panther's son, he has some serious issues!

  • i didnt know pink panther had kids lolz O_0

  • HOLY CRAP I use to watch this cartoon early in the morning when I was a kid O.O

  • i like the part of the song that plays from 0:50 to 1:02 .

  • Cartoon focused too much on the sons than on the actual Panther himself.

Theme's still pretty cool, I'm just saying give the Panther a bigger part.

  • Probably because the Panther didn't talk. I liked this cartoon though. I mean, I don't think I could sit through 30 minutes of the Panther and not hear anyone talk.

  • @MrLogoman007 That is why they canceled the show in the first place. Not enough of the Pink Panther.

  • @EHH246 Moral of this story? Keep Hanna-Barbara far far away from anyone else's work, especially DePatie-Freleng.

  • @MrLogoman007 This was an era when it seemed like every cartoon had to be either junior/baby versions of said character or their offspring.

  • didnt knew he had sons.

  • I remember looking forward to this on Saturday mornings. The quality was pretty good, about on par with the Smurfs. We even had a quickie Pink Panther cartoon as an interstital. I was so pissed it was canceled after one season, I think it was Kissyfur or Snorks or some other vapid cartoon. Why this isn't on Boomerang is beyond me.

  • Par with the smurfs is right on...the "bad quality"...I hated this show. But by then [1984] I was 24, and they had long started doing them for kids. Early 1957-196? H-B was at elast done for the adults [Quick Draw, etc.]

  • @SteveCarras Yeah, it was time to move on.

  • I actually have the bed sheets and pillow case with these characters on them. Also I have the comforter. This was one of my favorite shows back in the day. Its a shame these companies couldn't come to an agrement.

  • This is a sin...

  • You're right!

  • @krakuss009 So which one of The Pet Shop Boys are you??

  • I just watched this because my friend has an old lunchbox for this show.

  • I always found it strange that Pinky and Panky had the power of speech but their father didn't.

  • Actually, the Pink Panther did speak in two of the older cartoons.

  • I find this one odd because Hanna-Barbera worked on this show without the assistance of either MGM/UA or DePatie-Freeling (inwhich the latter became Marvel in 1981.)

If you have the closing credits to 'Pink Panther And Sons', could you please post them. Thanks in advance.

  • they should show more the pink dad man

AND HIS SONS ARE SOOOO CUTE!!

  • DePatie -Freleng, not Freeling, Freleng, from Friz Freleng who directed very looney tunes before too.

  • The most striking thing about this title sequence is that the overall quality of everything is better than most other shows' title sequences from that time. Usually the titles have better animation than the actual show, which makes it all the sorrier when you see how crappy many titles were back then. This one has pretty good visual design, character design and animation, and the song is actually good, not just "nostalgically fun." Probably got extra care because it's the Pink Panther and Friz.

  • @kevcreative You can thank Art Leonardi for having did this sequence!

  • I had almost forgotten about this show. The only fragment of any episode I can recall is the Pink Panther nervously waiting at the airport for the Son to bring him his passport so he could go on vacation, to Mexico I believe. Weird thing to remember out of a whole series, eh?

  • oooo man old school

  • Whoa. I never seen this before.

  • Does anybody have the TV shows to this that are willing to upload them???? I'd appreciate it if somebody did!

  • yeah...me too...just for old time sake....would bring back some lovely childhood memories.....I miss my childhood

  • Sons? I see a daughter in there.

  • Actually, that's one of their friends.

  • I really thought this was a cute show. Better than muppet babies!! i know 1984 wuz my H S grad year!!! I wuz 18 and still watched the Smurfs!!

  • class of 84! i loved the smurfs, but i don't remember this one. i'd like to see a show uploaded too.

  • The Pink Panther did not talk in this cartoon. But his sons did.

  • "The idea came from Hanna Barbera with Freleng's blessing."

Interesting fact: Friz had been friendly with Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera since the 1930's.

  • where did you find it?

  • Not too crazy about the whole deal with the Rainbow Panthers (they look like a cross between the Fat Albert gang and the Shirt Tales), but the updated theme is really cool, even though I wish Hanna-Barbera were better off getting someone like Jermaine Jackson to sing the lyrics. Did Henry Mancini do this as well?

  • do you think this series SHOULD be released on DVD? I never saw this Series, but I'd like to.

  • Why is this like one of the best theme songs EVER, from a long forgotten show. This has a feel good R&B feel

  • NBC's 1984-1985 Saturday Morning Line-Up

    8:00am The Snorks

8:30am The Pink Panther and Sons

    9:00am The Smurfs

    10:30am Alvin and the Chipmunks

    11:00am Kidd Video

    11:30am Going Bananas

    12:00pm Mr. T

12:30pm Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends

  • Still wondering who has the rights to the cartoon? Is it Warner Brothers or Sony?

  • united artist/mgm still have the rights.

  • Sony never released this show on DVD, even if they own the MGM library. But since it was made by Hanna Barbera, I always thought that the show's right would eventually fell under Time Warner/Warner Brothers. Any guess on that?

  • it's not owned by hanna-barbera or time warner/warner bros.

  • Not at all, The Pink Panther and its properties are owned by copyright to Mirisch-Geoffrey-DePatie-Freleng and trademarks of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Inc. This was a co-production with their actual colleagues at Hanna-Barbera Productions who before this series, Friz Freleng and David H. DePatie split up their partnership with DePatie-Freleng Enterprises and went their separate ways. But because David and Friz co-owned the copyright they remained close as creative consultants for this series.

  • Oh, that's when things get confusing -- when the rights are divided. The rights to the SHOW are owned by TimeWarner, but since the rights to the CHARACTER(S) are are owned by MGM, they have to come to an agreement -- and that's assuming there's any great push to release this show. The same kinds of split-right problems are one of the reasons "The Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour" has never aired on GSN. Or. probably the MOST frustrating to fans -- why the 1966 Batman series isn't out on DVD.)

  • same here. I want to see Batman series on DVD. fun times!!!!!

  • I'll take the original theatricals anyday. Before MGM, UA financed these as DFE made them, then MGM got most UA properties-in the big trade with WB WB in turn got many pre-1948 UA & MGM films and MGM shorts., as well as WB getting back a lot of the pre-August 1948 [ending with "Haredevile Hare"[July 24, 1948] and "You Were never Duckier",[August 7,1948], color shorts.

  • And then there's the issue of "You Were Never Duckier"'s status as oldest released, and one of the oldest produced, Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts that, due to post-July 1948 release, ALWAYS stayed in the Warner Bros. and in

    To wit:

In the 60s Warner, also regained almost 80 of the B&W 30s-40s cartoons,, whose B&W status got them reissued in the 50s Sunset/Guild packages, but WB regained them, and recolored them, so they wound up in the post-1948 package as welll.

  • @muttley16 that's right.

so weather they will re-release the Series on DVD themselves or not

    is up to them. right?

  • Friz Freleng was actually involved with this? o.O

  • The idea came from Hanna Barbera with Freleng's blessing.

  • Ah, gotcha.

  • Pink Panther returned to NBC in 1984. And moved to ABC in 1986. Hitory repeats itself.

  • No, they did? I must the series here.
