He wants less government allowing the private sector to have free reign over the trade process (less government interaction, hence isolationist). He talks a big game but during the 80's he was flat wrong about a depression in the U.S. caused by Austrian monetary policy.

The cause of WW2 was NOT isolationism and appeasement. It was more to do with the decline of Germany after WW1, the terms inflicted by the victors and to make matters worse the Great Depression of the 20s & 30s.
