dude, this question goes out to you if you've driven a double clutch m3...
for a manual gear shifter enthusiast do you recommend the new DCT transmission... cuz im having trouble deciding and the reason is I love the whole rugged style shifting... but is that worth sacrificing for the DCT double clutch?
i changed my E46 M3 on 02/08 to an E92 DCT and is alot smoother changing gear now, the e46 jerked at low speeds whereas the e92 is so smooth in gear change and power.....and it looks the dogs bollox too.
Well I would have to really test them to tell. If they are on the wheel, if you needed to downshift while in a curve, and your wheel is twisted, you might hit the wrong paddle.
But then again how often do you want to downshift or upshift in a tight turn. Here in the US I think you can only custom order the M3 with the DKG, all of the 2008's ive seen on Craigslist have been 6mt.
fist. if your steering wheel is so twisted is because u must be doing a u turn. on the track the steering wheel usually doesnt go pass 180 degrees, which is just fine to shift. in those situations if ever arise you can shift with the shifter (push it forth or backwards) or/and use the paddles too.
another great clip with plenty of narrative along the way. im curious to know if there isnt any throttle blip on downshift - does this mean there is no rev/rpm matching? - my understanding is/was that rpm matching was better for gears (although syncros take care of much of this now days) but also rev matching (i thought) ment the engine rpm doesnt have to drop before it has climb again for the lower gear.
very cute and h0rny, Feeling so wild my amazing sports body full of sexual energy!. I'm a REAL woman who wants to get naughty on cam with a REAL guy like YOU MY DEAR! I'm here to pleasure U dear, come to me! come visit me at ... Play-Cam(.COM) ... my user-id there is Emily-ccdv chat soon on cam ;)
is he doin the down shift blip incousciously at 4:37? could it be only is phase of deceleration that the downshifts blip? this is kinda disapointing if it doesnt...
Hi Gustav, Thanks for the video. How much is known about the origin of this gearbox? Is it an internal BMW project or sourced? Do we know if it is the same gearbox as the new Nissan GTR?
Thanks for the pointer. If it's the Getrag 7DCI600 (71kg), then it's 8Kg lighter than SMG3. The Nissan GTR appears to use a Nissan/BorgWarner design. We're looking forward to an M3 DCT vs Nissan GTR GTboard video! :)
Will they re-launch the E60 with this Gearbox? There's only 1 thing about this Gearbox though, it doesn't have the same Downshift Grunt as the SMG3. It's nice to frighton the life out of people on the sidewalk.
To get the best laptimes DCT is the choise. But also for straight line dricing, since 7 gears are in closer ration than 6-gears and thus give you a better acceleration.
Is there a noticable difference in accelleration of this DKG and the standard manual car? Does it pin you back any harder or the same, just with 0 change time?
"Take it easy, Gustav" Hahaha! Your reviews never disappoint me since you always drive the "Ultimate Driving Machine" to, or maybe even past, its limits.
It almost seems like the M3 is even more responsive with the dual-clutch clutch gearbox than with the normal 6 speed gearbox.
this is my dream car! alpine white with black breyton rims!

I wish the paddles were on the collumn not on the steering wheel.
b0nes2 3 years ago
Why?
See my review of the Scuderia: it had o nthe steerign column and that felt slightly confusing.

Drove new DKG and shift are faster and less violent than SMG in M5/6.
It is much better design.
gtinut 3 years ago
True.
m5boarddotcom 3 years ago
I hope BMW wiull get rid of SMG and go dual clutch on all M cars. SMG is old fashioned.

Would you have the m3 manual or dkg???
patfromozZ 3 years ago
DKG.
m5boarddotcom 3 years ago
What colour combination would you have?
patfromozZ 3 years ago
Does it violently kick just like SMG II ? ... E46 M3s kick at gear changes, just like mine.

how does does the shifting response until it actually shift? (on manual shifting)

Throttle blip s there at S5 and if you keep the pedal more dpressed during the downshift it does a louder blip.
m5boarddotcom 3 years ago
But in the video then why when he tries to do it, it doenst blip?! it actually looks like an auto/tiptronic downshift!?

m5boarddotcom 3 years ago
Gustav, did you prefer the DCT to the conventional H-pattern?
BI2016 3 years ago
The DCT is so much faster ao I prefeer that. You also have the hands on the steering wheel at all times.

josieginey 3 years ago
Not pitcable in terms of acceleration in gear but definetly when shifting gears and thus hte whole accelerationrpocess, obviously.
It would be very hard to FEEL the acceleration differnece in gear, but it is crtainly there in a say 30 to 150 mph sprint.
