It's got nothing to do with sissy or alpha, you either have a complete upper hand or you need to go through the proper channels. I thought I gained an upper hand after I started blasting them back with an even louder bass, but they poked our tires, threw mud at our windows, and ganged up on my 60year old mother once. Not worth it.

I have this going on 24/7 in a small apartment with metal studs that makes the sounds carry throughout the building. Banging on the floor/wall hasn't helped. Noise ordinance tickets hasn't helped. Since I am getting little sleep and have an increase in seizures and migraines, I am filing a complaint with the NYS Division of Human Rights for discrimination based on my disability (epilepsy).
This is my life right now. I'm trying to get the neighbor evicted. But he's appealing the eviction with a slick, shady lawyer. This guy blasts the stereo all night, all day, anytime he feels like cranking it up, 1 am, 3 am on week days, weekends, doesn't matter. It's a living hell. There should be tougher laws.

She's all into peoples business now and seems to be always in the very same room I am in just 1 floor above me. She hangs at the window over my smoking room and if I open my window once every 48 hours she goes mad about the smoke coming up once in 48 hours. Then she starts banging for hours. Dealing with it right now as we speak! NOT ACCEPTABLE! Haven't confront them in person yet only because I'm saving it as a next resort. I've spoke to my leasing office & they claimed they will write up a warning to them. I'm not willing to bank on that. I'm trying to read up on the lease contract to see if there is any way to get out of it if it becomes way too unbearable. My rule is 9pm-10am to be apartment friendly. Moral of story, don't live like you're in a house if you live in an apartment!

On top of that he has two dogs who he refuses to walk so they roam freely outside int he morning and poop everywhere. You're right about one thing - my leasing office did NOT do much about the noisy Sasquatch neighbors upstairs. As far as I know, they still live in that same unit. They tried moving them to a new unit, but they refused all the offers. The leasing manager tried applying noise insulation between me and them, no luck. FINALLY, they moved me to a new unit (TOP FLOOR)! Much happier and more quiet!

I told him that I'll try my best to keep it down and I'll live like I'm in an apartment and NOT my own house. Also said to let me know if I was being too loud. first, DO NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THE PROBLEM by blasting your sound system to the neighbors who are bothering you or you will make other neighbors upset. second, call the police if the problem continues, comes back or the property owner does nothing to solve the problem with noisy neighbors. it is not right for neighbors to be excessively noisy. I had been dealing with the same issue you have when it comes to noisy neighbors throughout my life.
The answer is YES - I have had and currently do have EXTEMELY INCONSIDERATE NEIGHBOURS who, are apparently, aurally challenged. My advice: RETURN TO SENDER! Buy a stereo and use it to BLAST OUT the most irritating techo-pop music (A HEAVY BASS BEAT IS MANDATORY) that you can get your hands on. You may well see a quick change in attitude...!
@carrollcrescent, this doesn't work. They will just use it as extra justification to play their music loud. You're better off calling the cops or the landlord and playing brown noise as loud as you can stand in the meantime. I also have a theory about those $300 bose headphones that filter out ambient noise. If you generate a brown tone similar to the bass frequency coming through your wall I think the headphones will be able to filter out both sounds.
It's not accebtable to do it all the time, we got neighboughs that do that, so I just bang on the wall loudly so they can't get any pleasure out of there "music". When They play it loud, i bang, they eventually get the message. Stupid Typical Teenagers.
Pray for him, forgive him, bring him a new pair of headphones, and let him know face to face that the music is cool but the loudness causes disharmony within the apartment complex. If that doesn't work, let him know face to face that you will record on camera every incident for a judge to listen to for a future civil suit which you will ask for damages (cost and inconvenience of moving to another location). Once he understands that your collecting evidence and he might have to pay, it stops!
well i had a neighbor whos dog barked so loud thay had to get rid of the dog or get out there home its the same with music you need to phone the cop when he plays hes music also get it on cam so you can take it to court
I understand fully, neighbor here has their subwoofers shaking, shocking, painful 24 hours a day, they don't come out of their room, they don't work. They've been eavesdropping, etc. Call the cops or move. It's an epidemic in the US. Let's petition our politicians in our state and make it illegal to have subwoofers or noise throughout the night. We bought R house out in the country to get away from noise & the neighbor next to us blares his music so high we can hear it over the TV in the same room with us. He also has a band. It's been 3 years now & I have polity asked 2 have it turned down, sometimes it works, mostly NOT. I've run outa sugar & sweet, he's driving me insane. My husb also works nights so he sleeps days, Most of the time thats ok then the afternoon keeps getting earlier. Last week was the chain saw @ 11 am. aghh!!

Get yourself a cheap AM CB Radio with a 100+ power amp and aerial in your home then offset the SWR . Key the mike(transmit) for no more then ten secs at a time , This will cause a loud buzzing sound over there speakers drowning out there music, This will also drive them mad coz they wont know why its happening, Dont key up more then 10 secs at a time coz you could blow your amp or CB. The fact is this, if its at night, call the cops, especially if its after midnight. My neighbors do it, and i started off by going up there and telling them its to late and to turn if off. But then it started happening at like 2 or 3 in the morning and i just said F**K it and went and called the cops. I plan on getting some nice sterios for my apartment soon enough, but I will only play it during the day time and not keep the bass up to high.
My opinion is, you should treat others as you would expect them to treat you. Unfortunately, many folks are simply pricks and don't give a shit about others around them. It's all about them and living the way the want, no matter how rude or loud they are.
I would suggest calling the cops early, every time this occurs. Eventually the cops get sick of coming out and give the person a fine or worse. Eviction really isn't an option as most landlords have a tough time evicting people. Finally..move.
with warning maybe half a dozen a year. out of this weekend partys later than midnight thats a NO NO. weekdays later than 10pm, no way. things are better now since the council have been involved. if they would have carried on then they would have been evicted. no one should have to put up with that. their probably out of work or drunks. hope it works out for you.

Ha ha, I like your "fishing pole" idea, very creative! I have noisy neighbors as well, but making noise yourself will only incite retaliation. Whenever I first move in, I put a 10' x 12' tarp on the bare floor to block out odors, then I place 1/2" thick styrofoam panels (from HomeDepot, $30 a bundle will cover one room,) then a roll of carpet padding, and lastly, a heavy-pile carpet. Second, I always use headphones for TV and video games, so I can't hear them and they can't hear me. Good luck!

So i'm 24 and have lived in 3 dif apts. since I was 19. I've always lived on top or third level, always lived by myself(no pets either), and never experienced any real issues untill I moved into the last or current apt. I'm a very quiet person but def like to have fun or stay up smtimes so I can understand if others do too. more above.. ^^

I have the same problem, only difference is my music maker is above me and the subwoofer is a killer. I have gone to the co-op board and complained with him sitting across from me. He's telling them its not him. His music and TV are so loud you can hear it on the first floor and he lives on the third (small building no elevator). But honestly if they have their stereos up very loud and think that you cannot hear it, then they are either incredibly stupid or just plain disrespectful. What kind of parents did they have? You BUY HEADPHONES! You go to a friends house to party. You do not bring it home. It is in no way allowed. It is called disturbing the peace. 98% of all cops don't enforce it.

after reading everyone's comments, i realize i don't have it that bad. i live in a double shotgun and i still can't stand it though. my neighbor's fucking dog is always scampering and it creates this stereo effect from left to right and back again. the stomping around shakes my side and makes my lamps and computer monitor shakes. my solution: rob a bank and buy my own home. and to tell you how considerate i am, i'm saving up for an electronic drum set because i shouldn't play my acoustic.

Take him to small claims court. He may not pay the judgment, but it will make his life a pain in the neck. Also, call the police and get them to issue a statement (a police report). You are a nice guy and you do not deserve to go through that crap-ola.

Hi, I sympathize with you! Many people don't know that tenants can legally move out if they are disturbed by noisy neighbors. Do some research and consult a lawyer if necessary. But do know that we DO have the legal basis to break a lease if a noise problem is not resolved. Good luck!!!!!
First of all you are way too nice. You have to realize that many people out there do not CARE that they are bothering you. Whatever you do, don't make a "shut up" sign. You need to call the POLICE. You can remain anonymous. Call them again, and again, and again. And if the music is turned up after they leave...call them again. Believe me, nobody likes the police. And also if you know you're a person who hates noise and don't want to have to deal with creepy neighbors...find apartments with older folks living in them. Or ask your landlord about noise issues b4 ever moving in. That's my advice...still stuck? Get earplugs.
I get headphones and a portable cd player or mp3 player. That way you can rupture your own eardrums without disturbing your neighbors. I say the key word in apartments is respect. If you want to do the party thing, rent a house with a bunch of friends, not an apartment. That way you can drink, be merry, and blast music to your hearts content and then have to deal with the cops instead.

My situation was a little different, I use to live on top of a noisey neighbor. I was 30 years old at the time, And the lady below me was in her 60's and she liked me, but because i didn't want her she would get mad and hit her ceiling which was my floor with a broom or anything heavy she could find. And it was loud i kept dark circles around my eyes for lack of sleep. The only solution was to move thank God i did.
First of all, I really am sorry that you have to deal with such a disrespectful neighbor. It is nice to listen to a power song after a long day or on the weekend, but if you live in an apartment, you NEED to respect the other tenants. If you want to play loud music all the time, an apartment is not the place to live. Go listen to it in your car or go to a friends house and blast it. Unfortunately there are people out there who do not care about others privacy.

my frickin neighbors in the apartment building next door have LOUD parties every weekend starting around noon including: taco vendors, blowup jumpy house thingy, LOUD, window rattling mariachi music played by a hired DJ, drunk adults, screaming kids, and this goes on until well after midnight. There seems to be no manager at that apt, building, Even the taco vendor has set up shop in the carport area on the weekday evenings until after midnight complete with screaming kids and drunk adults.
The only "possible" thing I can do here, in Korea, (and believe me, I've had the same problems, and have done a LOT of extensive research, such as legal terms), is attain proof, and file a complaint to the cops. Once they're at your house and it's pretty evident they won't have trouble hearing what you're hearing, I'm guessing they can actually do something about it. DO research on the internet to find legal / non criminal solutions.
some people in this world are extremely selfish and you cant reason with them. they certainly know what they are doing is wrong but they dont care. what i did was i spent some time finding out where my noisy neighbor parked his car,, and then put some scratches on his beautiful car,,,two weeks after, he moved out. but be careful when doing that. this is supposed to be the last resort and dont feel sorry for them cuz these people are soldiers of satan.

It's got nothing to do with sissy or alpha, you either have a complete upper hand or you need to go through the proper channels. Take your recorder and record the noise, take some people as witnesses and file an official complaint.

I have this going on 24/7 in a small apartment with metal studs that makes the sounds carry throughout the building. Banging on the floor/wall hasn't helped. Noise ordinance tickets hasn't helped. Since I am getting little sleep and have an increase in seizures and migraines, I am filing a complaint with the NYS Division of Human Rights for discrimination based on my disability (epilepsy).

I have one of the worst upstairs neighbors you could think of. She's old, her husband died. She got married to him as a young lady, never lived her own life. She's all into peoples business now and seems to be always in the very same room I am in just 1 floor above me. She hangs at the window over my smoking room and if I open my window once every 48 hours she goes mad about the smoke coming up once in 48 hours. Then she starts banging for hours. I tried to fix it with talking. Didn't help long.

Dealing with it right now as we speak! NOT ACCEPTABLE! Haven't confront them in person yet only because I'm saving it as a next resort. I've spoke to my leasing office & they claimed they will write up a warning to them. I'm not willing to bank on that. I'm trying to read up on the lease contract to see if there is any way to get out of it if it becomes way too unbearable. My rule is 9pm-10am to be apartment friendly. Moral of story, don't live like you're in a house if you live in an apartment!

You're right about one thing - my leasing office did NOT do much about the noisy Sasquatch neighbors upstairs. As far as I know, they still live in that same unit. They tried moving them to a new unit, but they refused all the offers. The leasing manager tried applying noise insulation between me and them, no luck. FINALLY, they moved me to a new unit (TOP FLOOR)! Much happier and more quiet!

I told him that I'll try my best to keep it down and I'll live like I'm in an apartment and NOT my own house. Also said to let me know if I was being too loud. @carrollcrescent, this doesn't work. They will just use it as extra justification to play their music loud. You're better off calling the cops or the landlord and playing brown noise as loud as you can stand in the meantime. I also have a theory about those $300 bose headphones that filter out ambient noise. If you generate a brown tone similar to the bass frequency coming through your wall I think the headphones will be able to filter out both sounds.

Pray for him, forgive him, bring him a new pair of headphones, and let him know face to face that the music is cool but the loudness causes disharmony within the apartment complex. If that doesn't work, let him know face to face that you will record on camera every incident for a judge to listen to for a future civil suit which you will ask for damages (cost and inconvenience of moving to another location). Once he understands that your collecting evidence and he might have to pay, it stops!

ok check this out. Exact same thing happened to a girlfriend of mine, She and i worked nights and she had only 5 hours to sleep after that shift before she had to go to a hospital and work as an RN. Her neighbor would blast his Rap music non stop, except for when he slept and also bothered others in the apartments so what she did was told everyone around her that on a specific night she was going to leave her music on, facing his wall and blast country music ALL NIGHT LONG............. Hey. I had a noisy neighbor and ended up calling police on them, but since they cant come out for just noise, I just lied and said they were running around in the street taking drugs and would run inside if they saw the cop car. Cops came out went up and banged on their door till opened, then she 'claimed' they planted drugs on her and arrested her. either way she got screwed. don't fuck wit the sparrow. she moved out shortly after she realized she couldn't get away with her lower class shit

I take a cardboard thick roll like the kind that wrapping paper comes in, and put a sock over the top. I then proceed to bang on the ceiling until they get the hint. The sock is on there to prevent marring of your ceiling.

Get yourself a cheap AM CB Radio with a 100+ power amp and aerial in your home then offset the SWR . Key the mike(transmit) for no more then ten secs at a time , This will cause a loud buzzing sound over there speakers drowning out there music, This will also drive them mad coz they wont know why its happening, Dont key up more then 10 secs at a time coz you could blow your amp or CB. The fact is this, if its at night, call the cops, especially if its after midnight. My neighbors do it, and i started off by going up there and telling them its to late and to turn if off. But then it started happening at like 2 or 3 in the morning and i just said F**K it and went and called the cops. I plan on getting some nice sterios for my apartment soon enough, but I will only play it during the day time and not keep the bass up to high.

My opinion is, you should treat others as you would expect them to treat you. Unfortunately, many folks are simply pricks and don't give a shit about others around them. It's all about them and living the way the want, no matter how rude or loud they are.
I would suggest calling the cops early, every time this occurs. Eventually the cops get sick of coming out and give the person a fine or worse. Eviction really isn't an option as most landlords have a tough time evicting people. Finally..move.

with warning maybe half a dozen a year. out of this weekend partys later than midnight thats a NO NO. weekdays later than 10pm, no way. things are better now since the council have been involved. if they would have carried on then they would have been evicted. no one should have to put up with that. their probably out of work or drunks. hope it works out for you.

Ha ha, I like your "fishing pole" idea, very creative! I have noisy neighbors as well, but making noise yourself will only incite retaliation. Whenever I first move in, I put a 10' x 12' tarp on the bare floor to block out odors, then I place 1/2" thick styrofoam panels (from HomeDepot, $30 a bundle will cover one room,) then a roll of carpet padding, and lastly, a heavy-pile carpet. Second, I always use headphones for TV and video games, so I can't hear them and they can't hear me. Good luck!

Con'td.. So these crackheads or whateva are always talking or slamming doors n stuff 24/7! I've tried to ignore but very distracting when trying to concentrate. I know its not a tv cause i can tell the difference. I've heard argueing/slamming doors and put up with for over a year. my solution is tv on all the time or smthing creating a white noise to muffle their sh*t. So i'm 24 and have lived in 3 dif apts. since I was 19. I've always lived on top or third level, always lived by myself(no pets either), and never experienced any real issues untill I moved into the last or current apt. I'm a very quiet person but def like to have fun or stay up smtimes so I can understand if others do too. more above.. ^^

I have the same problem, only difference is my music maker is above me and the subwoofer is a killer. I have gone to the co-op board and complained with him sitting across from me. He's telling them its not him. His music and TV are so loud you can hear it on the first floor and he lives on the third (small building no elevator). I could understand if the neighbors did not know that you could hear their stereo and or footsteps. But honestly if they have their stereos up very loud and think that you cannot hear it, then they are either incredibly stupid or just plain disrespectful. What kind of parents did they have? The answer to the question is NO. They have no right to turn up there stereos or TVs to any kind of exceptional extent.
They are in a Apartment. Not in a house. People who come from houses have a tendency to turn up there stereos because no one else can hear them. However in Apt it is different. You cannot turn it up. You BUY HEADPHONES! You go to a friends house to party. You do not bring it home. It is in no way allowed. It is called disturbing the peace. 98% of all cops don't enforce it.

after reading everyone's comments, i realize i don't have it that bad. i live in a double shotgun and i still can't stand it though. my neighbor's fucking dog is always scampering and it creates this stereo effect from left to right and back again. the stomping around shakes my side and makes my lamps and computer monitor shakes. my solution: rob a bank and buy my own home. and to tell you how considerate i am, i'm saving up for an electronic drum set because i shouldn't play my acoustic.

Hi, I sympathize with you! Many people don't know that tenants can legally move out if they are disturbed by noisy neighbors. Do some research and consult a lawyer if necessary. But do know that we DO have the legal basis to break a lease if a noise problem is not resolved. Good luck!!!!!

You can remain anonymous. Call them again, and again, and again. And if the music is turned up after they leave...call them again. Believe me, nobody likes the police. I get headphones and a portable cd player or mp3 player. That way you can rupture your own eardrums without disturbing your neighbors. I say the key word in apartments is respect. If you want to do the party thing, rent a house with a bunch of friends, not an apartment. That way you can drink, be merry, and blast music to your hearts content and then have to deal with the cops instead.

we have problems with the dickheads above us we live in a ground floor flat,they make so much noise we now sit in a small room at other end of the flat small room about 9x9ft,we complained to swan housing and the music stopped for about a month and it was lovely then they started playing it again,i have been up there around 20 times to tell them to shut up,but these days i get a drunk slag trying to argue it with me so i give up trying,this has gone on for a bout 18months,i want to go up there

My situation was a little different, I use to live on top of a noisey neighbor. I was 30 years old at the time, And the lady below me was in her 60's and she liked me, but because i didn't want her she would get mad and hit her ceiling which was my floor with a broom or anything heavy she could find. And it was loud i kept dark circles around my eyes for lack of sleep. The only solution was to move thank God i did.

First of all, I really am sorry that you have to deal with such a disrespectful neighbor. It is nice to listen to a power song after a long day or on the weekend, but if you live in an apartment, you NEED to respect the other tenants. If you want to play loud music all the time, an apartment is not the place to live. Go listen to it in your car or go to a friends house and blast it. Unfortunately there are people out there who do not care about others privacy.

my frickin neighbors in the apartment building next door have LOUD parties every weekend starting around noon including: taco vendors, blowup jumpy house thingy, LOUD, window rattling mariachi music played by a hired DJ, drunk adults, screaming kids, and this goes on until well after midnight. There seems to be no manager at that apt, building, Even the taco vendor has set up shop in the carport area on the weekday evenings until after midnight complete with screaming kids and drunk adults.

The only "possible" thing I can do here, in Korea, (and believe me, I've had the same problems, and have done a LOT of extensive research, such as legal terms), is attain proof, and file a complaint to the cops. Once they're at your house and it's pretty evident they won't have trouble hearing what you're hearing, I'm guessing they can actually do something about it. DO research on the internet to find legal / non criminal solutions.

some people in this world are extremely selfish and you cant reason with them. they certainly know what they are doing is wrong but they dont care. what i did was i spent some time finding out where my noisy neighbor parked his car,, and then put some scratches on his beautiful car,,,two weeks after, he moved out. but be careful when doing that. this is supposed to be the last resort and dont feel sorry for them cuz these people are soldiers of satan.
