The snappiness you hear is probably the resonators ford used...they are similar to the glass pack. Properly setup, the BOSS429 was unbeatable, spanking 440s, 426 hemis, 454s, 455s etc.

The only thing it wouldn't tough was the 427 cammer side oiler.

First Ford had a hard time competing with the Chevy 396 engine, then they came out with the 390 which didn't compare to the 396...and then they all came out with bigger engines, and Ford came out with the Cobra Jet Engine that was better than any other muscle engine! And I read an article that to this day it was still supposed to be uhh, like the best engine (I don't remember the whole thing)

the 428 cobrajet engine was the best production engine back in the day. The BOSS429 engines were used for NASCAR and were produced for the sake of satisfying race rules. The 427 cammer engine (another FE engine like the 428) is the ultimate Ford engine.

There was a 429 thunder jet,cobra jet,super cobra jet,boss and a 429 Police Interceptor. I have the 429 thunder jet,cobra jet and the Police Interceptor. The Police Interceptor is a 1972 were Ford designed special heads for it that year only and it has a ton of low and mid range power. Hence Interceptor!
