  • There's an elephant in the room... and that's the fact that this album sucks, other than Portnoy's growls of course.

  • I m better than beethoven

  • New drummer mike mangini

  • @hiddenbutdeadly Well the song is about a car crashing into a house.

  • Best breakdown and bridge in existence

  • What these guys do is scary

  • One of the best intros ever!

  • @mexvj

    It's proggressive metal...

  • I HATE it when people call this Metal. This is Progressive Bee-otch!!!

  • Shit

  • 7:00 is just plain amazing

  • I don't like this song. Is to metal style. The only part that I love is from 5:00 to 8:35

  • @JuaanCM that's a pretty big chunk

  • Has anyone noticed how the guitar part at 3:47 is the exact same as the kick drum pattern from the glass prison at 6:47?

  • i never listened to metal before in my entire life and this actually made me cry... i love the powerful feeling this song has

  • I miss practice for 1 day I know it

I miss practice for 2 days my band knows it

I miss practice for 3 days my audience knows it

  • in other words: even if you have talent, if you don't practice, you'll get nowhere... as the saying goes: USE IT OR LOSE IT...

  • BUT not having the ability to do something doesn't exclude you from learning that activity, just that you won't do it as well as the rest of the people that do have the ability. If this was the case, we wouldn't have evolved as people. Aiming higher than what you are able to do is something that frustrates people. Now, in music, playing is different from composing. Some people are excellent and talented players, but crappy composers...

  • humm... IMO talents apply to the speed you learn disciplines... being a teacher myself I've learned at least 3 languages in less than a year each and that's cause I'm talented at it, but I don't think that talent is everything... Talent without practice is nothing, we can see that in so many disciplines: soccer, athletics, music... Although one has to be able to recognize if you do have the ABILITY to do something, which is different from talent or practice...

  • @andrew817 I believe in non-physical talent as I am a true possessor of it. I can do many things better than others who practise much more than me because I have talent. You really think that people who do well in school work harder than people who don't do as well? Talent applies to everything about a person.

PS - Yes, the music is very good.

  • pink floyd of metal?

  • The day you believe practice is nothing, then is when you lose... practice is what matters. The greatest people in the world believe in Practice, how old are u 6? besides, its Genius or Genious

  • The day you believe practice is nothing, then is when you lose... practice is what matters. The greatest people in the world believe in Practice, how old are u 6?

  • @4:58 - 8:38 one of the best musical passages I've ever heard.

  • why people that dont like DT come here and listen to they´´re music...

Congratulations to Mike Manginni i think it will be a great ride for Mike.

  • More like: 15 people are Images & Words fans.

  • this should be in a movie when someone gets mad

  • @dude12345274 love song but if it was in a movie it whould need to be shorter

  • O kurwa !!!

  • one of the creepiest intros to a song i've ever heard

  • Am I the only one who think this is their best album?

  • @raftoff nope - im with you there fav albums in this order: - black clouds and silver linings - train of thought - systematic chaos - octavarium - falling into infinity - a change of seasons (if you can count it as an album) - Awake - scenes from a memory - Six degrees of inner turbulence - Images and words - When dream and day unite
  • the intro almost seems like it would belong on dimmu borgirs enthroned darkness triumphant

  • 5:35 .. It feels so relaxing

  • I keep playing the intro over and over and I can't get enough of how damn scary it is.

  • now there are 13. and I don t even dislike DT. no, DT is a great band. This is my way of telling you all to stop fetishizing this like/dislike thing. your acting like a band of kids.

  • they should have stopped at Metropolis Pt 2

  • mike portnoy needs to rejoin, after he's done with his "break"

  • 12 dislikes.......this means one of 2 things: 1) 12 teeny-boppers still haven't grown into their training bras yet, or 2) they don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.......or both.

  • This song feels like a dream personified when vocals are removed.

  • DT will not be the same without MIKE, Im afraid to go to their next show, but of course i will be there. As for the 12 yuppy pricks who hit dislike....Clean out your ears.

  • to bad mike isnt coming back to DT =[ :::::::

  • @ER052092 he might, i hope he does

  • @TheNathvar he tried but they denied him....DT will continue with their new drummer.

  • @ER052092 whos the new drummer

  • @greenradio1 thats the only thing i dont know about DT at this moment. is their new drummer. and probably wont know until like they make their next album.

  • @ER052092 He gets unveiled this year with Judas Priest. I think it's in the UK

  • @UltimateGohan43 oh sweet! really?

  • @ER052092 Yeah. Dream Theatre's drummer debut

  • 12 Justin Bieber fans.

  • Comment removed

  • @talos50 more like 12 of those rev crybabies who, since his death, all of a sudden seem to think he's the greatest drummer who ever lived. -_______-

  • The death angel is purifying the world with this intro.

  • unbelievable !!!

  • practice doesnt create musical genious, talent does.

  • @cjsinister6 practice prefects it, they were together a long fuckin time... although all of their solo acts are great too

  • @cjsinister6 if you would only practice you would realize how wrong you are. This "talent" word has done more harm through the ages than good. Talent is some magical word and it's all bullshit. Practice Practice Practice Petrucci himself would tell you the same. Watch his videos he stresses practice and more practice. Take ur magical talent word, throw it away and start living.

  • @nakedchickens u mad?

  • @nakedchickens LOL dude. Sure. If you practice hard enough you can sound like Petrucci. Oh wait....no you fucking can't, you have to be born with some innate ability. Your brain has to be hardwired in a special way to be able to play music. And calm down dude, it's a youtube comment for christ sakes.

  • @HippyamongHicks No you can't "sound" like Petrucci, but you can be as good as he is. Every guitarist has their own sound. The only thing separating you from Petrucci is practice, no matter what kinda pedestal you put him on.

  • @nakedchickens But then you sounds super generic. Look at Rusty Cooly, he's a very good guitarist. He still sounds crappy, Petrucci has something special. Plus he's not my favorite guitarist, the only man on a pedestal for me is Jimmy Paige. Practice is essential, but it wont make you a guitar god, you have to have a different brain than most people. I play classical acoustic and if you asked me to play reggae I'd be thoroughly confused. if i played it for 10 years it would still be crappy.

  • @HippyamongHicks lol jimmy paige? most overated guitarist ever!

  • @FirePower3006 Uhhhm personal opinion. I love the guy. My favorite guitarist would be impossible to pick though, there are so many great ones.

  • @nakedchickens this is true the fags are fanboys who dont even play guitar and are stupid and think hes the greatest guitar player ever

  • @HippyamongHicks If you only play what john petrucci plays your entire life and practice until you can play every solo he plays, then you will only know how to hear things that sound like what he plays. Just like two friends who spend every second together usually have the same political views, musical taste, and mannerisms. Your musical ear is acquired. If you were born with it, then there would be five year olds humming amazing guitar licks with no prior knowledge.

  • @GibbyCanes Do you think Beethoven was so good just because he practiced most of his life?! No, he had something special, something that no matter how much you practice most people will never achieve. He was born with a musical brain. Some people just understand music, and no matter how much you want to turn it into a fight about practice it doesn't make any difference. That's just the truth, some people are just naturally better at making music than others.

  • @HippyamongHicks Musical talent is a spark that may or may not get you started. Afterwards everything consists solely on practice practice and more practice. One that works tediously will ALWAYS overtake one that has an innate talent but works less. Composing songs rests on how much musical experience you have; and you can gain more experience via 2 means: Listening to music and trying to compose music - no matter how bad. In reality, 1 in 10 songs a band makes is good. Trust me, I was in one.

  • @HippyamongHicks That is why people in different countries like music that to us sounds bad. Traditional Thai music sounds off key and terrible to western culture because it is not what we grow up with. You are born with tendencies not abilities.

  • @nakedchickens i actually get more pussy practicing what do you got your hahaha

  • @nakedchickens i actually get more pussy practicing what do you got your hand hahaha

  • @cjsinister6 Talent comes from practice. Your comment is that of a quitter.

  • @Faustblix talent comes from creativity

  • @cjsinister6 Ironic that you misspelled genius. Also, every musical genius practices close to 8 hours a day. Dedication is everything, talent is an illusion; an excuse people use to give up.

  • @GibbyCanes what do u mean. I am a very talented guitar player and song writer and i don't practice for 8 hours every day. your thought process is flaued

  • @forthsealrules What you definitely are not is a talented speller. I have no reason to believe you are a skilled composer, and I certainly doubt you are near the level of people who do practice that long: Tommy Emmanuel, Wynton Marsalis, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix. Why? Because if you were your name would go down in history as well. No one has ever picked up an instrument and played perfectly the first time, thus you arent born with that ability.

  • @forthsealrules Talent is inherent. Talent really only applies to physical things like athletics, so talent in music I suppose would be having long, skinny fingers like Jordan Rudess or Jeff Loomis do.

  • @andrewh817 yea i guess that makes sence.

  • @GibbyCanes

    thank you,hahahahahha

    good comeback

  • @GibbyCanes So you don't think it's true that some people are just naturally better at some things than other people? I mean, obviously practice is hugely important, but it seems hard to deny that some people have "natural talent" in a given area, and some people just don't.

  • @ChorGodOfChunder I'd actually like to apologize for that comment. Since then I have taken a 22-credit hour semester as a phys/chem major, biology minor. Without a doubt what you are good at is largely, if not solely, based on what you are born with. There is overwhelming scientific evidence for that and I should've checked my facts.

  • @ChorGodOfChunder Also, it is worth pointing out that dedication and the ability to be disciplined and practice is also a talent in itself, that some people are born unable to do without medication.

  • @GibbyCanes what??!?!? thats complete crap...if that were true, every musician would make their best work at the end of their careers after they had more time to practice.... yet most rock bands write their best stuff in their 20s and early 30s.

  • @ZRANCIS I have since rescinded that remark, however those comments are not at the top. Though as far as writing your best material in your 20's, most players tend to fall into a rut. They have some fresh ideas, but then all of their material starts to sound the same. The true greats break past this all the time. Wynton Marsalis has hundreds of compositions with different styles, most of them ingenious. I would also attribute that to a sudden increase in income.

  • @ZRANCIS Also, players older than that tend to have families, don't have the energy to tour as much, there sex drives, energy, and brains are all deteriorating. There are a million holes in that argument. It would be better to stick with a genetics argument, as those have never been successfully scientifically refuted.

  • @GibbyCanes Even though giving up on your arguement was a nice ending to this little discussion, I believe that you're partly right. Practice is almost everything, talent is an ability to learn a certain subject faster than others, but practice is essential. Take Hitler for an example. Hitler had the ability to mezmerize his people, with incredible speeches enhanced with his talented body language. Yet even he spend hours infront of a mirror, practicing his body language.

  • @GibbyCanes I apoligize for any mispelling or/and grammar mistakes

  • @cjsinister6 they both do

  • @cjsinister6 talent without practice is just a waste...

  • @cjsinister6

Musical genius stands for nothing if you can not express it. To express limitless talent, you first need to know how to use your instrument limitlessly. To allow the mind to flow through to your instrument you require a full understanding of every note on your instrument in your head - to put the pieces of the puzzle together effortlessly, without losing the creativity of your mind during the process - to know what notes are to be played. Practice is absolutely the most important.

  • he said son do you remember do you even know your name? then he shined the light into my eye and told me he was a deushbag.

  • the double bass in the beginning can only be described as "unbelievable." I can't stop listening to it

  • @goodygoody23 or it can be described as "pretty cool and takes some practice". fits that part so good though.

  • @XtremeDrummer14X ohhh some practice. I would give it a little more credit than that

  • @goodygoody23 ok, a lot of practice lol

  • @XtremeDrummer14X It's easy if you have some control in your feet.

  • cool favin this

maybe people disliked it cuz it scared them???

  • Shit !!!!!!!!

  • 6:58

How can you not help but cry hearing that amazing part o_o

    The strings.

    And 6:37

  • second time listening to dream theater

pretty boring up to 2 minutes

stil unspectacular from there on out

they use very cheap tricks to make this song longer than it needs to be

guitar solo with wah and drums are epic though :D

  • @Diosukekun

They don't make the songs long to look cool lol. They end up long because ideas keep coming. Fans overblow the length of some of their songs.

  • @Diosukekun this is their new stuff, their old material is a complete different style

  • @Diosukekun

Why would you listen to this album as an introduction to Dream Theater? Try Images and Words, brah.

  • @Diosukekun the cheap tricks they use to make the song longer. arent at all for that purpose. theyre progressive and they use length to balance the progressive rythms and give a smoother transition.

its like if i told you the entire lord of the rings story in a sentence. it could get the point across but you need a whole trilogy to create the depth of how it came about.

it takes awhile to get used to it but theyre arent just making it long for the sake of being longer

  • @cminormusician well, i tend to get very bored by it. i'd prefer it a lot if they took out the repetitions. i'm sure it would take longer to get into their songs then and you'd have to listen to them numerous times till you like them, but i guess in the end i'd like their songs better then. (lots of progressive music i like works that way). i guess i just don't agree with their philosophy.

  • @Diosukekun

i recomend you listen to the songs in octavarium (besides the actual song octavarium.)

theyre alot less enduring for the most part and good way to get used to dreamtheater. trust me theyre one of those bands that you kinda gotta get used to but its totally worth it

  • @bravehades1 ???????Pink Floyd???????really dude...wow not even close...pink floyd has a totally different style. plus pink floyd is beter at writing lyrics...

  • this song has a serious lack of flow

  • @ZakTheThrash

Or maybe you're just too used to Lady Gaga crap with no creativity.

    >_>

I'm done. three comments in a row.

  • i lovethissong alone the first secods of the piano or keyboard are from fish !!!!

  • 3:18 fucking awesome.

  • thier music sounds very pink floyd. at least alot of their guitar

  • damn, MIke Portnoy has never sounded better!

  • god why is this band so epic?

  • 1.44 aaaaaaaaaaaaa...anddddddd...a nightmare to remember...

  • 8 people need to die

  • 8 people didn't like the song.

  • @NoSoup4you 12 now, and no fuck, you at least need to say something witty if your going to say something about the dislikes.

  • @TheMw2sc more like 13

  • @TheMw2sc

    make that 14

  • @TheMw2sc now 15 people need to die

  • @TheMw2sc now 15 people need to die

  • @TheMw2sc make that 16*

  • The starting sounds like Cradle of Filth

  • @mabbasc lol good one

  • This song is amazing.

I've been a DT follower since IaW and like all their albums! I still don't get why some older fans don't like what they call the "new" DT. To me, there is no such thing. It's only DT, years later still proggin' like hell and exploring new sounds (as prog should be!). What some consider "mainstream" is only the recognition they **finally** get after years and years of incredibly hard work. The fact that their fan base keeps growing and growing after so long is a phenomenon.

  • WOW this drummer is insane

  • @KeusFrench ya his name is mike portnoy but he left the band about two weeks ago :(

  • screw tose 8 people who "dislike " this song

  • How can MP leave? They will obviously never be the same. Although now we don't have to deal with his terrible ''death metal'' vocals.

  • 7 people had a nightmare they couldn't remember.

  • 7 people cant remember this awesome nightmare.

  • I just got another band to listen to every day and night

  • You guys focus more on the dislikes than talking with the people who actually like the band!

  • @LaGossaDeCrevillent fuck :'(

  • they dont call them selves THeater for nothing listen to these guys and its a Movie in your mind!!!!!!!!!!

  • 3 Dislikes??

    Fuck Up With The Dislikes

    .l.

  • listen REALLY closely at 0:32 you can hear windscreen wipers

  • DT é a melhor bando do mundo!

  • THIS SONG ROCKS.....DAMN DT IS AWESOME

  • Guys, try to write comments a bit more intelligent then "the one who disliked must die" and other things like that...I'm fucking tired of that staff!

    PS: this song is badass!

  • @skifarterufa @skifarterufa the 1 who disliked is Justin Bieber fan!!! :)))))))))))))))))))

  • @dayw4lk3r989 those comments are so old and stale now :/

  • @ShizukaAssassin i was sarcastic...:)

  • @dayw4lk3r989 It's hard to tell sometimes, especially on youtube

  • best intro ever :)

  • He used a crunch lab to record this?

  • john is a wizard. mike is a god. and vice versa

  • @MrCbone93 You've got it all wrong, It's Rudess that is a Wizard, John is God, Portnoy is the Percussion of the creation of the Universe, Labrie is the Voice of Existance and Myung is... Well he is a fairy tale, just like Santa Claus or The Tooth Fairy.

  • @IamtheSalman ha my ignorance is shameful :D

  • i think metallica were long christ dream theater are good at long songs sound metallica is just i bunch of riff

  • if they were to make a music video, it could goin theaters as a feature length film.

  • best drummer on the planet....HOW THE HELL CAN HE KEEP UP, he must have some epic power legs rofl at the begining

  • I really like this song, I don't know why, but if I heard once, like me more. Portnoy (L)

  • 6:37 LaBrie really did a great a job here, at the chorus part :)

  • now that i have gotten that out of my system i would like it if people stopped commenting about the rev and a7x. the band and the drummer deserve respect, but if you want to talk about them go to an a7x video, not a dream theater video.

  • pure fucking talent and skill

    !!!! Thumbs up!!!! \m/

  • @Metalinsideme420 PURE DISCIPLINE AND SKILL... this is just my opinion but talent is something your born with like being a natural at something... to me John petrucci.. John myung, MIke portnoy, Jordan rudess and even labrie worked their ass off in practicing and honing their skill.. Like Steve Vai practice for 10 hours a day for 10 years..

  • saw these guys saturday in worcester they brought the fucking house down with this song

  • I agree, saying James LaBrie sucks is a rather ignorant statement. Just because you don't like his voice doesn't mean he can't sing tremendously well.

  • damn i heard about this band from guitar world channel. thank you guitar world X_X im freakin in love with this music XD gotta so buy like all their albums omfg !!!

  • this is the beast song in this album ...dream theater rulezzzzzzz

  • This song is easily one of the most amazing songs ever written. Ever.

  • I Dislike This.

  • 2 dislikes? either retarded people, or misclicks

  • @EXHellfire 3 now, must be retarded people who misclicked
