This amp lacks one important feature - on board reverb. I would take the plunge and buy one except I think that running a digital reverb pedal into the front-end would sound like crud when the tube distortion kicks in - ?
@DanH1970 I run a Digitech Hardwire RV7 in front of mine. It's really not that bad at all. Of course, if you open up the gain all the way it gets really messy. About the level he's playing at 2:00 into the video would be as much as you would want it cranked with a reverb pedal.

Man these amps are fucking amazing. Tone is incredible. I got the 10" for $199 from guitar center out the door. This amp as that smooth creamy tone. I you like playing classic rock or blues this amp is a must.
dont you know you can barter at guitar center....ive gotten items that retailed for 4000 and ive gotten them for 3200 (including the tax)....its best to hit them soon after christmas
Anyone know if there is a big difference between the 8" and the 10" speaker regarding the sound? Is it worth it to upgrade to the 10"?... I have the 8"
this sounds amazing, especially compared to my super champ xd i bought.. i should have taken this.. but i will put tube converters in it with el-84 and hopefully it will sound closer to this..
who cares about 16 preset sounds when there is something missing in all of them, sounds so sterile the supe champ compared to this. i tried 5 different preamp tubes and 3 different pairs of output tubes.. can't get a great sound out of the super champ xd so far.
phew, felt a lot better reading that comment. I was worried my ac4 was a mistake buy and a super champ would have been just as good with more options.
but i have a similar experienec with my vox VT15, I bought this one cause the only good sound athe VT can id imo is the creamy crunch sound, the clean sounds great in headphones, but not in the speakers.
I still use it for nighttime playing.
you can get the ac4 too, if your superchamp has a headphone jack its still useful
True. I did just the same. Gave up getting the sounds i wanted from it and now i have changed to this one.( I guess it is a bit easier to get some good sounds from a Vibrochamp (5W) Then you can run the tubes better.)
@Semach4444 Your so right on that comment! I can actually here delicious tones comes out of the guitar and it doesn't sound like its clipping like in other vids I've watched.
yeah taasty vox, but still pricy

The circuits are completely different. It's not a matter of just changing a valve.

Whats better - the AC4 or the AD50 Valvetronix?
mallamoozoo 2 years ago
For some reason, this amp sounds so much better on this video than any other video.
I wonder if they had a nicer speaker in the amp sitting out at the Guitar Show.
