Ended up nothing was done and it was swept under the carpet (like the Catholic church does!) And Bush is without conscience. This is the hard lesson that the US has learned since the invasion. Saddam actually killed fewer innocent people than we have killed there. However, I would never say that he was not a monster.

Certainly horrendous by western standards, but if you handed the Kurdish problem (armed rebellion of the most violent and ruthless kind) to any nation from Afghanistan to Syria, you'd be hard-pressed to find a leader that wouldn't put down the riot that way (if they had the strength). Invading another country hardly counts as a monstrosity anyhow - in most of world history, it was in fact quite common, Europe, the Middle East, etc. It's typically dismissed as just politics unless one sees large-scale senseless rape or execution (like the Japanese in Nanking or of course anything like Shoah).
