@MonochromeRay River didn't die he killed himself. He wanted to be dead just as much as kurt. I don't know why the vaselines wrote this but Kurt is probably singing it as a fuck you to christianity, the most corrupt organisation in the world, and if it was dedicated to River then it definitely is a big fuck you to christianity. River grew up in "The Family" for fucksake, poor boy would have been twisted,,,
hello my friends, please check out my new youtube video called "WAR IS OVER"...you don't have to die and you don't have to cry, but you may want to watch the video...see you around, I don't think I will be required to die this time, except in love...
"Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam" performed by Nirvana and supposedly a cover by the Scottish band The Vaselines. Kurt got the idea to write the song for the christian song "Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam" in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". Right after the no-neck children sing the song Big Daddy asks for "The Blackeyed Peas" to be passed. This is why I named the group which I wrote songs for The Blackeyed Peas.
You can feel his pain and how hopeless he became at this point. This whole Unplugged album is so hard to listen to, its like a funeral soundtrack. Brilliant, genius, tortured, poetic, but sad. RIP Kurt
My favourite song the unplugged album. Originally by the vaselines, but he says that on the album. Suprisingly true to the original. He was a genius. My favourite cover of Nirvana's. "100 greates covers ever" for sure, probably top 10

You have to be either really bad at reading or just plain fucking stupid to think this song, or its lyrical message is in support of religion, god and/or jesus! No christian would ever say jesus doesn't want me for a sunbeam first off, or that they would never cry, lie or die for THEE (aka god/jesus)
Princessavts, apparently you are that fucking stupid!!
"Don't expect me to cry, for all the reasons you had to die." Very pro jesus retard!
@TheRed886 i never said it SUPPORTS religion ,probably you are really bad at reading not me...there's a big difference between being against & pro something..Btw i don't understand why you feel so offended...ppl have the right to disagree with u ,that doesn't make them "fucking stupid"..
And though it seems to be "Jesus DOESN'T want me" in the song "Don't" doesn't have to be a typo it could actually be like the rest "don't" of the song meaning "don't you want me".
@TheRed886 And i don't think there are many Christians who sincerely cry or die for Jesus ..we try but we're usually selfish & cry about our stuff.. so anyone could have written this song even a Christian.Being sincere is not a blasphemy.Again that doesn't mean this song is pro Jesus..
I seriously don't understand why people think this song is against Jesus. It's more like whoever wrote it [the vaselines] admits to be unable to become as perfect as a sunbeam..that's all...what's wrong with it even for Christians?Nothing.. we're human beings....
@vanillacraft I am sorry but, you are incorrect. It is a cover of a song by The Vaselines song which partially a PARODY of a hymn called "Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam." It is very much a song against Christianity. Please do not try to make it something it is not. If you doubt me, read the lyrics.
Right, so, this song actually is giving the finger to Jesus, if you think about the chorus. "Don't expect me to lie, don't expect me to die, don't expect me to cry for thee."
Basically saying, if you are looking for me to follow you, you need to get me a three "T" form. "Sir, what's a three 'T' form?"

@piggyman450 it's a song that's just poking fun of Christianity. Jesus is God's son. A sunbeam is a light that comes from the sun. A sunbeam is a person that's shining with the light of Jesus ("this little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine"). In other words, sunbeam = christian. "Jesus doesn't want me for a sunbeam 'cause sunbeams are not made like me" is ironic because Jesus is supposed to not judge but deems him unfit to be a christian. Kurt basically says that he thinks it's full of crap
yeap you`re right kurt was a good profectional.....even is sometimes was make some b sides for hole........that was a huge lost from everybody......he was got a lote to give in this world i though
I grew up in the Northwest... went to college in Olympia, WA, where Nirvana played a few times before they got real big. Met Kurt briefly when they played at the MODS on campus.
It's sad to think how many musicians got caught up in heroin and died as a result. Layne Staley, Andrew Wood, and Kurt, although indirecty.
Many years ago there was a childrens' church "club" called "Sunbeams" (my mother was one). I think it was a Baptist church and this would have been during the '30s. They used to sing a little song: A Sunbeam, a Sunbeam, Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam. I'll be a Sunbeam for him.
I don't know what that has to do with the meaning of the song but it seems likely there is some connection.
The man is a great musician. yet he lived a tragic life. If one truely loves Kurt, one would agree that he would have been better off living a happier life if he would have never been famous. Just a guy having a typical 8-5 job. Paying taxes in April and just jamming out with the buddies during Fridays and smoking a blunt with them afterwards - Joking around, having a laugh and having those so called "meaningful" conversations he talked about often. Dis is what Cobain yearned 4.
I sometimes feel like I am not wanted as a sun beam because of my "deformity" but maybe it is because I struggle between wanting to be a friend of the world vs. faith in Christ.
What message would leave today if he were still alive and, to our youth, the "master" of the musical group, Kurt Coubain?
Talking about Jesus in this beautiful melody was, I believe it, the beginning of a path to where he is, after a life atribulada within your family, this "made in pieces" with the implosion of the love nest that experienced and divorce of their parents.
Interesting point, but I do think he was just doing a cover of one of the bands he liked the most (The Vaselines). No religious metaphors or something of the sort.
A few years ago my cousin gave me this album for my birthday. I remember putting this album on before I went to bed, and this song came on. I don't know why, but for some reason it always makes me cry. I love Nirvana
can someone please tell me if this is true or not... i heard that someone stole kurts ashes from kurt... anyone hear otherwise??? or what may have happened afterwards??
I knew this song was dedicated to River Phoenix who died few months before kurt

It's electrifying listening to Kurt Cobain's soul doing the singing for him.
This ain't a christian song man,
it's about life in general...
regardless of religion.
I respect individual beliefs but the reality is
as ignorant as you may be,
no man needs to be religious to enter your ideal of a kingdom of heaven.
That is if it even exists, which I highly doubt.

@ronan32 But Kurt was active in a church (youth group?). He chose to reject spirituality and blew his brains out.

Dis is what Cobain yearned 4.

this song is fuckin tuff.
I sometimes feel like I am not wanted as a sun beam because of my "deformity" but maybe it is because I struggle between wanting to be a friend of the world vs. faith in Christ.

In English:
What message would leave today if he were still alive and, to our youth, the "master" of the musical group, Kurt Coubain?
Talking about Jesus in this beautiful melody was, I believe it, the beginning of a path to where he is, after a life atribulada within your family, this "made in pieces" with the implosion of the love nest that experienced and divorce of their parents.
Estanhado 3 years ago 2
Interesting point, but I do think he was just doing a cover of one of the bands he liked the most (The Vaselines). No religious metaphors or something of the sort.

atribulada em ingles diz-se : troubled . " troubled life "

A few years ago my cousin gave me this album for my birthday. I remember putting this album on before I went to bed, and this song came on. I don't know why, but for some reason it always makes me cry. I love Nirvana
