  • it is not a raincoat! it´s silk! and setnever, get away from here and let us enjoy with what pianists and fans love...MUsIc!!!! Ms. Uchida..God has a special sit for you on heaven.

  • 凄く音色がきれいだし、オーケストラもいい。

    管弦とピアノの絡み合うシューマンの良さがよくわかります。

  • she wears a raincoat because the tears would drown her otherwise.

  • Update: 8 ppl d0nt have a raincoat,so they hit the Dis I Like butt0n wit their umbrellas!

    WoooooooooW! so ALIVE!!!vivace!

btw the conductor lookz like Albert Einstein! LOL ^^

  • from 0:00 - 0:30 i could melt away... Such a nice piano playing...

  • omg she is soooo awesome. i am crying from this.

  • why does she have a rain coat? looks comical.

  • But that day it was raining at the Philharmonic ?

  • @Filippoga Not at all. they are just kidding about the outfit of madame Uchida because it looks like a raincoat, however She's stunning

  • 6 people don't have a raincoat....

  • I love Mitsuko I have never heard anyone make the piano sound so alive!!

  • This is splendid but I usually don´t like her playing.

  • please make the whole performance free :)

  • @freeqwerqwer I disagree with you. I don't know if you are talking about his conducting style or his musical styles. But the music that he creates communicates the music very well and offers a fresh version, unlike the homogenous, lush sound other conductors create. As for his conducting, it may be unique but it communicates to the orchestra very well his musical ideas and emotions and in turn create good music. If you just dont like the interpretation, that is not a measure of his aptitude.

  • fantastic!!!!~! touchy! amazing , extremely extroardinary perform!

  • Seriously amazing.

  • I finally figured out where that raincoat is from. It's from Bladerunner.

  • Why is she wearing a rain-coat?!

  • I stood beside a hill

    Smooth with new-laid snow,

    A single star looked out

    From the cold evening glow.

    There was no other creature

That hear what I could hear --

I stood and watched the evening star

As long as it watched me.

Mitzuco, you own my heart and soul.

  • I ask you apologize, really excuseme for these coment, Berliner is the most perfect and great philharmoniker after second war and I belive the unique in all times, Yours can won not only money because I am sure that all entries for concerts is finish many months ago and we that live far no can go to watch and listen in person, to see in youtube is only..maybe 5% of reallity and is not si much ask.

    well best reagards.

    Roberto

  • sorry for ortography, is His Legacy, sorry again

  • I ask...please to Berliner Philharmoniker let videos of Our Dearest Herbert Von Karajan in You Tube please please, because as we can see He let her legacy for home video and now all in the youtube channel is delete, and of Mitzuco Uchida too.

is a strange petition but ........... it`s necesary, of course is wondefull all works from Mss Uchida. is the best.

  • @robertosald We understand very well and we are working on this already. It is however, a long-term project as several legal issues need to be resolved.

  • @robertosald yeah i use to watch karajan everyday. and mysteriously, all of karajan's lengthy videos here in youtube were deleted! no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In my opinion, Schumann's Piano Concerto is one of the difficult Concerto to play because the general interpretation carries a risk of being mediocre, BUT NOT UCHIDA. In this live recording I hear the degree of involvement is deeply felt, there is such wonderful musicality in Uchida's playing that sings to our hearts... IT IS A GREAT PERFORMANCE, SHE IS UNDOUBTEDLY THE VERY OUTSTANDING PIANIST OF TODAY. BRAVO MAESTRO !!

  • ahhh, breathtaking, soul cleansing. wish i could afford to watch the whole thing

  • this reminds me so much of Brahms 4rth Symphony.

  • Oh my god i never thought a song would make me cry, i needed that enery thanks for refilling my spirit

  • I read in the newspaper of the concerto for piano and orchestra in A minor by Schumann, I had heard not long ago and I was fascinated ... it was in July: That evening I entered the cathedral on tiptoe, and saw the piano far, the orchestra felt, and the sound of "modern" that disturbed from the outside .. then affectionate gaze of the director assured the pianist and she was one with Schumann ... do not let on! marzio54 4 days ago marzio54 4 days ago

  • I don't like her dress, but I like her fantastic performance.

  • 6 people don't have souls

  • @noreec

Therefore, six gingers listened to this?

  • Uchida let´s us all in awe.

  • whoever decided where to cut it did a very good job - was in absolutely full sparkling flow when it stopped!

  • she plays it so gracefully :)

  • love mitsuko uchida in the austro-german repertoire....

  • al minuto 2e 40 si vede la LUCE!!

  • Not many pianist plays like she does - absolutely beautiful! It moves me to tears!

The orchestra is in sync which is hard to do because of the very fluid romantic phrasing. This is what I call a "great" performance that moves souls!

  • I saw the etire concert at the Digital concert Hall of the Berliner Philharmoniker, That experience Change my life =´(

  • sparkling!

  • @jav888 that's not a rain cover...

    its very beautiful.

  • @Tokushimaz Construction of the piece could be more elegant, as the fabric choice.

  • @Cienstin That's YOUR opinion. Not mine.

  • @Lity10 uchida is already so much better than argerich... (in my opinion)

  • @Lity10 better yet

  • I love this woman.

  • @cisdolce so do I = )

  • this is just so beautiful to listen to

  • i just love the part that starts at 1:22...

  • well, this is gorgeous! :-))

  • favoloso, che accenti che gioia ,grazie

  • Wonderful playing! I really love this. But why is she still wearing her rain cape? ;-)

  • @AmelieWuensche Maybe it's because she is an artist? ;-) Do you remember what Antonio Salieri once said while talking to Katerina Cavalieri (a scene from M. Forman's Amadeus film)? He said: "Looks and talent don't always go together, Katerina"... And she replied: "Looks don't concern me, maestro. Only talent interests a woman of taste" ;-)

  • @smmlr a beutiful Movie to Describe Uchida, She is Beutiful and so is her music, She Plays Mozart with her heart, Schubert with her soul, Schumann with all her tecnique and Beethoven with all her humanity = )

  • @manuelspcool Yes, indeed. I do agree she's very interesting and charming woman... and a great artist - first and foremost :-)

I'm very happy that she'll perform a recital in October in Warsaw...

  • @smmlr So you are Poland? cool, My drean is go to Chicago or New York and see one of his concerts = )

  • @manuelspcool Yes, I am. I come from Poland and so does Mr. Daniel Stabrawa, 1st concertmaster (1. Konzertmeister) for this concert (he was born and studied in Cracow/Kraków), as well as several other members of the orchestra :-)

By the way, do you remember that this year we celebrate the 200th anniversary of both R. Schumann's and F. Chopin's births? :-)

  • @smmlr that's so cool I love play the pieces of Chopin, this is a year of parties for Schumann and Chopin two musicians that change the romantic period greetings = )

  • @manuelspcool Well said

  • @smmlr

    yeah you're right! ;)

  • I love the tiny part that starts at 0:22

  • Love the work Mitsuko keep it up!!!!!!!

  • i'm an hour away from berlin, and every Simon Rattle concert ticket sold out until june. How the hell is it possible that there are no tickets till june!

  • Dressed as a Debussy's song playing the great Schumann concerto... too short !!!

  • @MrLacidaremlamano what's the matter with Her dress, She can play as Clara Schumann so Her clothes doesn't care

  • nobody plays this concerto better then uchida especailly starting at 0.07 and ending at 0.27. Everybody else rushes, she expresses this passage as a new bold line in the music.

  • I saw the Berliner with Mitsuko Ushida in Paris last night. It was a fantastic concert. What an orchestra and Mitsuko Ushida was superbe in Beethoven's 4th piano concerto

  • beautiful resonance in the hall ad of course it's because madam Uchida plays so beautifully and the orchestra goes in a wonderful harmony with sir Rattle.

  • yeah madame Uchida is the most talented and her tecnique is so clear and sir simon is awesome

  • She is my favorite pianist shes is the queen of piano i love her style

  • love how she shakes her head at 2:41 (Y)

  • and we wonder why younger people dont get into classical music! She wears something unique... not unclassy or risque... and gets loads of criticism because of it.

I say the reason people are not willing to be a part of classical music is the stuck up, black dress, tux with tails, quiet reverence for the music, clap after the last movement and leave attitude that has developed.

  • Your mind has spoken.

"Igudesman and Joo" have done it, created something unique, and I hope that more of the younger generation can appreciate the beauty and complexity of classical music. It would sure be wonderful if people could compose music in this style but I am afraid that the environment nowadays with the new genres of music have made it almost impossible (I hope you can understand what i mean), but nonetheless classical music as you said can get a visual makeover for the "youngsters"

  • Very impressed by this excerpt, and by her vestimentary unconventionality!

  • Concerto for Piano, in A minor, Op. 54 - Allegro affettuoso & Concerto for Piano, in A minor, Op. 54 - Allegro vovace

  • Oh thank you! :D

  • Oh, are the concertos played by Argerich and Uchida different movements of the same concerto?

  • They both play the whole concerto.

This is the 3rd movement of the previously mentioned concerto and i think you've seen Argerich play the 1st mvmnt.

But i've seen more than one video of Argerich playing the 3rd mvmnt (same as this one) here on youtube.

  • beautiful, brilliant, amazing.

  • 0:41......the little piano solo makes me travel to another dimension....it´s awesome!

  • oH... DID she wear the PVC DRESS in all of her concerts during 2009? I love that!! A very peculiar, kind and peculiar, but kind pianist!!!

  • love her mozart

  • I love it, Passionate.

  • wonderful performer

  • 2.41 - just the right balance there. I have seen and heard a bit too much attack at times there but what a show! Spot on.

  • This is very good. Love to see Rattle also work with Argerich!

  • Gives me chills!

  • Love love love her!!!!

    Shes such an inspiration!!^^

    ♡♡♡!!!内田光子大すき!!!♡♡♡

  • Oh, Mitsuko is pulling a lady gaga. hahaha love her and her fierce schumann.

  • Mitsuko is beautiful, and so is her music!

  • YouTube Staff, would you please remove MrSammyConcepcion's inappropriate comments... This has nothing to do with Japanese or not. Let us keep this site respectful.

  • Hello,

I have written YouTube with the same complaint. However, I also wrote MrSammy Concepcion, told him how I felt, also told him I'm a gay man and wondered what he would have said about me; he told me. I wish I could share his response with you but it was over the edge. Yes, I believe in free speech but this idiot is indeed, quite the idiot and must be stopped. What can we do?

  • Lilyjubilee,

This is hideaway3 again. Since YouTube has apparently not done anything, I contacted the Anti Defamation League in NYC. I'm writing to see if you, perchance, would have the defamatory comments Mr. Concepcion wrote about Mitsuko Uchida. I only have a hard copy of his note to me and my response to him, so any help you could possibly give me would be very encouraging. I'm very tenacious and will follow this through to the very end. Thanks in advance.

  • This is the most beautiful Schumann I have ever heard! She is the best and has the deepest understanding of the composer. We are blessed to have her performance! :--)

  • Robert is the best)))))))))))))))))))))))

  • She can wear anything when she plays like this :) This is one of the best Schumann concerto I've ever heard...

  • why has she got her rain mac on?!!!

  • I saw Mitsuko Uchida in 2004 and Lang Lang this year with the Berliner Philharmoniker. The philharmonic is simply awesome. Great sound !! I even went to the rehearsals of Mitsuko Uchida she is a real genius

  • wow Mitsuko Uchida!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

si oir a schumann es genial, oir su concierto para piano es un orgasmo seguro

    directo a mis favoritos

  • Esos dedos son fascinantes. Insisto en que la música está a salvo mientras los japoneses estén ahí.

  • mitsuko rocks. Her music are so wonderful. So is Berlin Philharmonic. I like some of their band pieces like Borodin and more. But for this video, I don't really like her dress. But still, its the music that is important!

  • I think she intentionally delayed to get extra reverb-like effect to add bravura to this triumphant moment. And maybe because the soft waltz rhythm follows next, so she just wanted to sound a bit more Viennese style, which usually adds extra delayed accent to waltz.

  • I wonder where I can see the whole performance of her Schumann concerto...

    Sounds quite good.

  • Absolutely amazing!!!!!!!

  • Is that rain coat?

  • I dont like martha... she does wierd things!.... uchida is awesome!!

  • And so does Uchida. Just kidding.

  • lol!

  • BW2082,

I would be williong to play naked if i had a fraction of the talent of Dame Uchida

She is a joy to listen to

    Thankyou BerlinPhil for sharing.

    Kind regards

    luvinbliume

  • segun tizok dirigiendo, pero wuacala, Rattle es la ley...

  • The sound combination of the piano and orchesra in this piece is sublime!

  • you are right, is awesome!

  • Martha and Uchida are Fantastic musicians and Players... ;-)

as usual, a great Uschida perfomance !!

  • what the hell is she wearing? A plastic rain poncho?

  • The Wonderful Orchestra!!!

    The Wonderful Pianist!!!

Warmth, color, light and flavor! there is much to savor and i savor every note. It is a memorable play of hints and flavors!

    Bravissimo!

  • she has vinger protection :P, yust like argerich

  • Hemingway...

    Magnífico!!!!

    União, perfeita...

  • TOCA COMO UNA BUENA ALUMNA...

  • I love this piece, the piano playing is awe inspiring, and the rest of the orchestra makes this piece epic. Im not sure why but the beginning of the piece reminds me of music you would hear in a Diamond commercial around Christmas time. "Zales, Diamonds are forever" *not making fun of the piece* but its pretty sweet 5/5

  • спасибо за приглашение!

  • What can ya say to that ***** *****. Check Judy and I out from Vancouver Island Canada thanks.

  • To Bluewing04. I am a musician as well and I couldn`t believe what you posted here. What is worse, you suggested us to check out Judy and yourself. Are you insane?

Think before you open your mouth bro. I am nor saying your music is shit but try to be wise.

    Respect others!

    Thanks

  • Love love love the Berliner. Mitsouko rocks!

  • Smile in joy...excellent!!!!

who cares what she wears? She is brilliant! Hail the orchestra and pianist!

  • Beautiful!!! Thanks for the share:)

  • That's a treacherous section for the orchestra between 0:20 and 0:40 - very difficult to feel the beat. I like the way Rattle helps with this. Bravo.

  • I absolutely love it. I think I will become a big fan of this amazing orchestra( philarmonie)

  • Woo...I love!!Thank you!!

  • congratulations!, excellent video

  • I love that intro its brilliant. its not about what she wears by the way, its the music that is important.

  • Was she expecting rain in the concert hall that day?

  • haahahha!

  • Her coat is very fine silk, just like her playing.

  • I Like her fashion sense! It's like she is a butterfly. . . always flowing and delicate. . . beautiful!

  • She has an. . . interesting. . . taste in fashion. Although truly amazing musically.

  • Just Gorgeous. Thank you Mitsuko.

  • How great! Thanks Berlin Phil for the You Tube channel.

  • Such clarity in her playing. Passage-work always very musical under her fingers. Very inspired playing.

  • Wow! Probably the best artists for this work today. Overwhelming...

  • I wanna see the whole concert

  • You can - just klick on the "more info" column to the right of the video.

  • Masterpiece!!

  • beautiful concert

    excellent work

    Best regards

    Raul ...

  • Thank God for a Berlin Phil channel! Finally! :-)

  • Well done! I love this concerto! 5*****

  • Thank you Berlin Philharmoniker for your

tireless efforts to bring music to it's heights. You, as Germans, must be extremelyproud of Schumann - who would have thought that a drunk insecure, unemplyed failed concert pianist would one day be a Legend, whose music is played in the most distinguished concert halls in the world, with reverence. Long Live Schumann!!!!!!

  • Es ist ein beweis dafür das ästethik so induviduell ist. Musikalisch absolute höhenflug,..wenig feinfühligkeit was outfit betrifft..was ist mehr wert ? ...

  • I agree, she wears weird clothes! Top pianist though, the type who never shows off, the composer comes first, not the performer, along the lines of lili Kraus, Arrau, Schiff etc..

  • Why does she wear a rain wear?

    Is she fire brigade member?

  • I searched and searched...

But this is the best version I ever heard of this magnificent piece of music! Great, both Mitsuko Uchida and the BPO with the always amazing Simon Rattle!

  • Wunderbar, dankeschön......mehr wäre schön....
