I noticed you are running 4 dimms of ram. I found out the hard way that running more than one dimm per channel causes stability problems with the phenom II. Does your computer crash at all? If so i would dump 2 ram sticks and put them in different channels. I know you cant run dual channel like that but unganged mode is faster anyway.
@ThePCGremlin Yeah you're right, having four sticks really limited the potential of the 920. I played around with it before, was able to squeeze an extra 200MHz at lower NB voltage by removing two sticks. Also, doesn't help that this motherboard (ASUS M3A78-EM) can't handle high base clocks so anything above 255ish causes a crash.
I later upgraded to a C3 stepping 965 and it's been running 4GHz/2600MHz HT/NB since. Put off changing RAM because I want to go with AM3 and DDr3 in the future :)
dude its shouldnt become unstable at 60 degrees i have the way younger phenom x4 9950 black edition which most of the time idles at 50 degrees and in games gets abit hotter
as for my old soon to be replaced asus nvidia 8800gt for one of these ati 5850s
and that asus with replaced thermal compound yes i put some arctic silver 5 on my 8800gt and it will still go up to 80 degrees when playing games
Great build, the 8800 is still a very good card even after 3 years! Nvidia did a great job with 8000 series :)
Phenom's are very sensitive to temperature i've found. It could be other factors to my system but with the 920 i was only able to get 3.6GHz when it was cool in the room allowing it to stay below 60c, with my new 965 and Noctua U12P i can get 3.9GHz at 53c but only able to get 4GHz when it's below 50.
It could be that original Phenom can take more heat I'm not sure :)
Xilence (pronounced ecks-eye-lence apparently but I get it wrong all the time in my vids!) are great fans. I have a 92mm red wing in the back of my case (no space for a 120 unfortunately) and a 120 Blue LED in the front. They are, as you say, cheap but quiet - and effective too!
You should try the Corsair H50 great cooler from reading the reviews and you can do a push pull config with that red wing fan and the corsair fan the cooler comes with.
i got my ati 5850 2weeks ago. VERY nice card. you pc looks very tidy. mine looks like it got hit by a truck. im going to get a new case soon. any suggestions?
When the messege about your psu came up I realised I probably went overkill on my psu as mine is 750W and is no where near as powerfull as yours although i did get a good deal (at least I think I did) on my psu it was only like £20.
the corsair fan that comes with the h50 is the best fan iv ever seen its quiter that the xienlence red wings cus i had 2 on the side of my haf but now one red wing and the corsair and it pushes 3x as much air its unbileivable. the thing is though i cant seem to find them standard corsair fans anywhere :(
Yeah it does have very good performance but some issues on AMD platforms.
Recently found out that not all H50's come with AM2 brackets, that another fan mount costs extra and that AMD cooling performance isn't up to par due to bad mounting hardware. So great for Intel but not so much for AMD :/
Leaning towards Noctua NH-U12P SE2 Dual-Fan (£50) the H50 is £60 without AMD mounting hardware or an extra fan mount and both perform very similarly :)
well i stopped making videos all together, the ones on there now are just music, before i deleted my previous account i made sure i subbed to all the people i actually watched and then just deleted the account.

I was also considering going with 1156 i7 but since i already have a AM2+ motherboard i'm just gonna upgrade to a 965 BE or Thuban Hex-Core.

Pros: Performance, new 1156 platform good for a few years, overclocking
Cons: Power consumption, heat, motherboard cost
AM3
Pros: Price to performance, easy overclocking, affordable Hex-Core April 2010
Cons: AM3 might be dead in 2011 when Bulldozer arrives

Well the Noctua is also a great alternative. Tjharlow has done some tests and according to him, those fans push a nice amount of air and are quiet.
