i would like to see u use the $21 solely for the food you would eat that week (i.e. not using what you have in you pantry)...I understand the logic behind using up the food you already have so it doesn't go to waste but I wouldn't want to use up all my non-perishables since that is my emergency food (i.e. if I lose my job, big storm, zombie apocalypse etc)
Family of 7 living on 250$ a month on food in total. That's food drinks and a total meal meaning all 5 food groups lol. I hate salad a chinken meal ideas that's not food. Or two taco we have to have rice a salad with that me eat healthy here. Again on 250 a month I guess I'm a mircale working then.
These are awesome ideas! I have a goal of feeding a family( 4) for $400.00 monthly. I already eat free lunches at family resource places, parenting groups, and sometimes at the soup kitchen. Its helps out right. :)
I've been a bit of a macguyver cook since I was little and I'm a fervent coupon monster. I shop at a wholesale club (comes to cost a hair shy of a dollar a week) and those coupons are for 2 and 3 dollars each. Mine accepts a lot of manufacturer's coupons and stuff like that so I save an easy $50 a week.
Also google "my fridge foods" to help start you off with recipes.
Also I giggled when you said "I reckon" at 5:25. ^_^
My family of 4 normally spends about 125.00 on groceries and this includes the non food items and dog food, cat food and cat litter. Theres no way we could afford $320 per week! We would be over flowing in food and drowning in bills at that! I manage each week on only spending $25 per person per week for food. Leaving the other $25 for non food items. oh yea and I don't use coupons either.
Eat dinners at a soup kitchen. For breakfast serve oatmeal and a piece of fruit. For lunch have a sandwich and carrot/celery sticks you brought from home.
It's easy if you're not a RICH SNOB who spends $320 a week just on food!
ooh. I thought it was survive on $21 dollars. She probably has $500 worth of food in her house. So she could probably use the 21 dollar challenge for a month. The only things she would need to buy are the perishables like milk. Although if she used alternatives like powdered milk then she would have much more room for spending. This challenge is easy if you have a large amount of food before hand.
It's a good idea, but she already has 20 times more food than I have on hand! I was hoping to really truly get some frugal healthy recipes to eat for (maybe even) $30 a week!
@Jayhasissues I don't know what food prices are like where you are at but I took on a $30 challenge for one week and ate extremely well with chicken, milk, eggs, tea, apples, carrots, tortilla's, beans, and rice, etc. Not going hungry, but it is pretty "boring" by American standards.
I could feed my family three months from the food she has! Good idea anyway. I now make my own bread, grow my own vegetables, buy in bulk and waste nothing.
Oh my, that looks like a lot of food, even for a whole family. Although I do think that $21 is very little (we spend $50-$70 per week, including shampoo etc. AND ingredients for gluten free baking ingredients), I think everyone should make a habit of not being wasteful EVERY week. It helps economize on calories as well.
i liked your video. I love the idea of eating from your pantry/freezer/frig instead of spending. My husband has not been able to find employment since he was laid off from his job 1 year ago. But we have lots of food, so I'm going to try one or 2 weeks of each month to see how much we can save.
I also like your idea of taking everything out so you can write it down---great way to clean and organize at the same time!
Cant beleive I saw all those open cardboard boxes of herbs & spices , Please ! invest in some cheap plastic air-proof containers to keep them fresh and not waste them !
She's cheating she already went shopping.

I still can't imagine it. Maybe it's because I grew up in a town of 5,000 people.

Why can't you feed a family for $21 every week?
Eat dinners at a soup kitchen. For breakfast serve oatmeal and a piece of fruit. For lunch have a sandwich and carrot/celery sticks you brought from home.
