  • The old man's testimony about the reactions of the soviet people to the symphonic music of the period is quite remarkable. Altough the comments he mentioned were negative, I think it also shows that how much the people were interested in classical music in those years in USSR.

  • It is thrue, I lived and studied in the USSR, I was astonished when a lot of workers, janitors, simple citizens, no scholars made a lot of comments about musicians, Oistrakh, Kogan, so, about composers, Prokofiev, Schostakovich and theri position against Jrennikov. People understood what would like to say Schostakovich about his 5th symphony "this is the response to a right critic"..ironic, but in this time music was phylosophy..
