  • I fail to see what anybody has to complain about regarding this performance, his intonation is as perfect as you could ask for and he has a beautiful tone (as far as you can tell from the crappy recording) and is obviously playing with a lot of ease and expression. Even if you personally have some sort of problem with this, why the hell would anybody sit there dissing the concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra? It's not like he cares about you.

  • damn, he can play violin, and play starcraft

  • very disrespectful and lame. Everybody knows David is great, nothing more needs to be said

  • David does not deserve the amount of flak he's getting in these comments. He's accompanied by a youth orchestra for goodness' sakes! While they make a huge effort, they're still a youth orchestra.

  • This work is beyond his abilities as to be almost painful , he should play something within his understanding and command - such sawing away

does his reputation little good -it is obvious he does not listen to himself.

  • @dziady1

Good thing we have Philadelphia Orchestra's next concertmaster here who knows how to truly play this piece because he spends his time practicing rather than making degrading YouTube comments.

  • @Zhou9 There is no degrading comment - his very poor playing and understanding the violin speaks

for itself .If he does spend his time with that much practice it proves the point that his playing is of

an inferior calibre . This is a public forum and he should at least understand and not perform a work

which is beyond his ability and puts him in a poor light

  • I guess no one noticed the huge cut they did at 3:35. That's measure 80 in the piece. It's supposed to go on with some more melody, but I guess Dr. Camilla Kolchinksy didn't want the piece to drag too long? Or maybe that was David Kim's preference. Anyways, they skipped from measure 81 to 108. It sounded good though.... By the way, SPLENDID PERFORMANCE.

  • @winrx You're an idiot

    @tycobbjung You're an idiot

@David Kim YOU'RE AMAZING! I enjoyed being a violinist at your masterclass.

  • yeah and all those kids playing behind him are illegal imigrants playing on stolen school instruments. How idiotic. Yo Yo Ma plays on a cello that belonged to Jacquelin du Pre. Does he have he family's permission?

  • AMAZING

  • And they play chamber gigs as well and not to mention some play at music festivals around the world.. I know a horn player that gives masterclasses and intense training for musicians at Pacifica Music Festival and makes over 11 grand in 6 days.. So tell me now who struggling to make a living.. Underachieved arse hole.. You're probably not smart enough to play violin and comprehend such simple premise on the mechanics of playing..

  • Struggle for a living is a cheap way of saying all musicians are poor.. Not true! The average musician that has been in a top professional orchestra for more then 15+yrs has a salary of 80k+ reaching the possible 100k+.. And besides most of these professional musicians have other jobs outside of the orchestra, some are adjunct faculty at conservatory's or universities. They teach probably a max of 8 or 9 students a week or bi weekly.. So

  • Concertmaster for a Professional Orchestra... That's probably why you leave such arrogant comments. And to judge one by race I'm gonna say you're the most racist bastard I've ever met.

  • At winrx I just attended a Master-Class with David last week and then heard his recital Thursday night at the University of Utah.. David is an amazing player and an incredible concertmaster.... Bill Pruecil is great as well a couple of my best friend takes from him in Cleveland.. I don't think you understand the process of finding the right

  • I don't know if David knows these videos are listed on youtube.. Being Concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Violin he plays on belongs to the Orchestra is kinda violating some sort of infringement..

  • @fattry2000 BOOOOOOOOO

  • @fattry2000 No, If you have an instrument on loan you are supposed to use it whenever and wherever you wish as long as you maintain it properly.

  • you go David - its me Anna - i met you with anita -when we came up to you and Benny at Aspen colorado festival when you guys were on stage during orch reh

    remember me?

  • You seem to have a vendetta against David kim or asian men in general

Hope u have better life Good luck to you

  • Uh excuse your language but apparently you are against Asians- hope your are making lots of money and is happy - for your info -in asia most men become docs or business owners

It has nothing to do whether they become violinists or not

    So I accept your ignorance

  • David is an awesome musician and I believe the only American to place in the Tchiakovsky the year he competed. Aside from music, the guy has a fantastic sense of humor and did a great Steve Martin in high school.

  • 1:15 ... hahahahahahahah!

  • David is a good violinist and had a reputation for being a competition hound in his previous career. However, it's a shame the Filly Band couldn't find a more complete musician as concertmaster like, say, William Preucil....

  • Comment removed

  • ehhh gotta disagree with you on that one. i'd say david's a pretty complete musician, and i think if you asked most people familiar with his playing or who've collaborated with him, they'd say the same

  • hahahahaha

  • what an ignorant, arrogant, stupid comment. david kim is an extraordinary violinist, and philadelphia loves him!

  • @winrx hi there

i guess you were rejected by Juilliard - there is no such thing as a 2nd rate Juilliard grad- - hope your life gets happier

  • @annajeehee No no silly oriental woman - I would never want to become a musician and struggle for a living. Anyhow, how many male Korean violinists do you know who have made it big? Yes, it's very hard for oriental men to become "superstars" in our society even in this day and age.

  • @annajeehee That's actually untrue. On Youtube, take a listen to Juilliard violin faculty member Lewis Kaplan, or Juilliard graduates Anna Karkowska, and Sarah Chang. They play hideously out of tune and are incompetent 3rd rate musicians.

  • @winrx You're probably some assistant 2nd violin principal in some amateur orchestra.

  • I really like him. He is a charming performer

  • I thought he came in early at 1:50 because many famous violinists make mistakes there and come in early (there is a section of 1:50 to 2:01 before 1:50). Well I guess they changed the music so that it's not repetitive, and I like it without the extra part too!

  • Bravo, bravo

  • bad intonation at 2:04

  • Excellent! Bravo! Hoped to hear it without the cuts though... anyway, fantastic job!

  • way to notice the cuts. haha

  • ... almost unnoticeable...:)

  • @tycobbjung there are always cuts in this one - dude

  • slow harps...

  • dude, i know, we spent a half hour in rehearsal, just sitting there cause the harp dude was kinda slow

  • really? haha. i dont remember that

  • dude we totally did,

ok i exaggerated it wasn't a half hour

but it was def a long time

  • yes, but its still really pretty! :)

  • Comment removed

  • i was also at this performance...

it was a great performance and i loved david's expression and phrasings but you could definetly feel that the orchestra was slowing him down a bit. I used to be in this orchestra before I switched to CYS and SFSYO!

  • So Bright !

    So happy

  • orchestra's too slow for david haha...

    incredible playing

  • we try our best ;)

most of us are below 15 years of age mind

  • so incredibly beautiful...
