@indiasucksalways Really? Biddle analyses the failure of the previous strategy and which elements a succesful strategy should contain. The new strategy has a better chance of stopping the violence and enabling the US will be able to get out of Iraq sooner, without a Vietnam-like defeat. So how are ´rad lib commies´ represented in the actual video? Nonsensical remark.
Yugoslavia eventually fell apart because once strong man Marshal Tito no longer was there to hold it together and the following heads of state couldn't fill his shoes. Irak fell apart because Strong Man Saddam Hussein was eliminated by the American military and the U.S. can't fill his shoes. I suspect that Irak will fracture and become independent provinces or sovreignties like the new Balkan states of post Yugolavia once America leaves totally
One crucial thing Biddle forgot to mention is the role and involvement of foreign powers in this 'communal conflicts' which makes any chances of stabilizng Iraq completely illusory.Iran supports by all means shi'as. It's interested in exploiting the political upheaval on their(= its) behalf. The sunni countries around, includng Syria, will do everything to stop the shi'as(=Iran's)ascendancy in Iraq, while the Turks pose a major genocidal threat to the Kurds than the sunnis and shi'as combined.
If your strategy is to be intelligent in matters of civil war and the importance of history to our lives, there is no better Scholar of The United States than Mr Biddle.
I think that the mistake the analizers keep doing is that they don't get fact that unlike christian countries that are more like Roman type institutionaly organized, middle eastern countries are more like interest/benefit organized societies where TRUST is not present.y suggestion is that instead of trying to unite them you should try to figure out a way to make them benefit from working together which immediately will bring the civil war to an end.
Thats a really good point, I havn't watched the video yet, I was trolling the comments to get an impression of the videos merit, but good point. I lived in Yemen for over a year and speak arabic pretty well, actual distrust is a favorable constant, unfounded trust is considered laughably absurd and exploitable.
I think that it should be pretty clear that the violence and the fear of genocide between the fighting fractions has been there for thouands of years and is still there for a reason, and I seriously doubdt that a foreign presense for a period of twenty years(which by the way speaking historical terms is nothing) is going to change anything.
I want to apologize in advance if I am wrong but seeing the first 10 minutes of this video made me feel that these people lack in understanding how middle eastern societies really work.
Very clear analysis on Biddle's part especially on the strategy failure in Iraq and and the account of Israel's difficulties in the 2006 war. I guess the problem is that it iall at the level of srtategic and tactical thinking--he can't be blamed for that. But it leaves a principled view of the rightness or not of going to war in Iraq.
he is great.

I am not sure what you mean. Could you please back up this statement a bit more? It is rather too broad a generalization the one you are making.

Human Rights Issues have not been part of US foreign policy
but they should be for our own benefit for Lebanon, India, other modern countries that we need
Time will tell whether Iraq has any great strategic gain for the United States
