This song has been mislabeled for years as Jewel and Tori Amos. It was originally uploaded to file sharing sites about 10 years ago--at least that's when I first came across it. I think if people look up "Wayne" by Chantal Kreviazuk, they'll hear similarities in the vocal style. I think it's obvious that it's not Jewel--she usually has a bit more of a whispery/baby voice quality when she starts off a song live. This singer is a bit rawer.

I'm pretty positive it's Jewel, she really uses the full range of her voice in her songs as can be witnessed here, the 6.00 mark is proof of this. She can go from almost yelling to very soft and barely audible. She really seems to connect with raw feelings and images in nature and animals, if her poetry is any indicator. That and the fact it sounds sooo much like her makes it too much of a coincidence for it to NOT be her.

This is the voice of Jewel that I miss. Her first album was as heartfelt as this song. Ever since she made it big, became wealthy, and met her celebrity husband she seems to have become relaxed in life and lost the desire for showcasine her talent. I miss the old Jewel and pay little attention to the new version of herself.
