@Cerberusphere ? fifth gear is a proper review show. Unless you own or plan to buy it, it's boring. Wow they improved it from the previous model, I never driven either. Brakes feel like the hand of god has ripped the earth beneath you, that I can imagine. Acceleration that rearrange your face: Tiff Ariel Atom wears a helmet. Clarkson? rearranges his his face so I can see it myself, even if I will never drive it. TOP GEAR

ya i researched this episode, and could not find it in top gear archives. Not surprisingly it appeared on 5th gears. This is not a top gear episode, although Tiff Needell used to be on top gear, this is 5th gear.

i have a e46 m3 and it is the best all around car. smooth and comfortable for everyday. FAST and CRAZY when you want, and always under control. i am positive that its one of the best cars ever made!!!!

I love my 328i. Only mod is a Signature Motoring performance intake kit. They run around $170 and add up to 9HP in the E46 323/325/328 and up to 13.9HP in the 330. That's about $17/per extra HP... A good value for the extra oomph. General HP increases are shown:

E30 series: 6.0-13.4hp gain

E36 series: 5.5-12hp gain

E46 series: 6.0-13.9hp gain

E92 series: 8.5+ hp gain

Z3/Z4 (all): 5.5-13.9hp gain

Any used car you get is going to need maintenance, all depends how good you are at inspecting to figure out if your going to pay now or next year. BMW's can be a hell of a lot cheaper to maintain than a Porsche or a Ferrari. Its a fun car if you can afford it, if not, dont buy it. Be ready to upgrade your brakes to scottsdale motorsports carbon metalic brakes they fit in the factory calipers and make a 90% difference so do the aluminum hats and ventilated rotors. Say bye bye Brake fade.

i did a track day in my e46 m3. it cost me £2200 in brakes and tyre's! don't know what brakes were fitted to this car, but my standard bmw system with new fluid and pads, showed fade after 3 or 4 heavy stabs - good on road, not so on track!

@whoiszizou i think that would be a maintenance nightmare. get the most expensive low mileage e46 you can find, with all the necessary things done (upgraded brakes, suspension, bushings etc) - it will be cheaper and a better experience. i've owned and tracked bmw:s for a couple of years, and the "cheap" m3:s i've seen have all been neglected. also, even a looked after m3 will need expensive maintenance after about 8-10k kms.

All this car needs are some Carbon mettalic brake pads that have been cutt to fit the stock calipers from Scottsdale Motorsport com and the special carbon intake that has an adaptor so it will work with street car BMW E46 M3's around the world.
