  • Shut up people. All of the talking is helpful to me!

  • Hey Steve JOBS! Never knew you play piano

  • LOL so gay

  • Thanks Mr Jobs..

  • he talks to much

  • I know you probably wanted to simplify this for beginners but the song is indeed completely different.

The bass line in the beggining is: chord D F# A sliding to D# G A# and then it's the obvious blues 12 but starting from D# and not C. The melody then starts with F# and continues with D# and C etc.

Or at least that's what my ears tell me.

The beggining is really important because it's so typical, it slides UP not DOWN and the feeling of the chord is very different from C.

  • I really want to play boogie woogie and rock 'n' roll in piano,,, and i watched a lot of videos (like yours) but...i don't know... how can i start to learn??

  • @LtHeltors4763 Sit at a piano instead of your computer. That's a good start.

  • @silvermediastudio The problem is that i already did it, and i'm from mexico and i don't speak english very well, and i already know something to play taht, but now i'm stagnant and i don't know what else to do :S

    Any video or idea? :)

  • PIETOSO!

  • This guy's playing is horrendous on this song. He's sliding down instead of up on the verse parts. Major fail!!

  • boooooo

  • This is so lame

  • its wrong ,b then c, forget these notes use you ear ,why teach people the wrong way.

  • @NazifNB Thats the first thing I noticed....some piano guy can't even dictate a ascending minor second....

  • spank me

  • he breaks my mind!!!!!!!!

  • I don't know what everyone is complaining about, this is an excellent lesson as it allows beginners to learn the basics of the song, while leaving a lot of room for more advanced players to add their own parts to it

  • Some pretty satanic candles going on in the background... careful kids!

  • omG i have a talent at this. i just found that out today that i have a rhythm and blues talent:D

  • Concentrate on teaching kids who don't know the actual song so that they don't come as people as me telling you that it sucks....

  • i dont play piano but it sounds like shit!

  • Following music sheet too much = machine sound = ZzZZzzz

  • Steve jobs

  • number 170 000! xD

  • cool, la partition devant les yeux qui defile !!!

  • I really appreciate your tutorials, you are smart and your personality is comforting, to the struggling {older} student..thanx!!

  • The piano guy is awesome!

  • are the candle pained?

  • The Piano Guy is the whitest guy who ever lived. Mr. Rogers teaches you how to rock, lol.

  • @instereovideos what is with the racist comment? I bet he plays better than you do. Where are all your free lessons for the public?

  • @Snackay whatever there dude... I'm a white guy too, so its kinda hard to call me a racist for that one... this guy talks like Mr. Rogers, and he's awkward to watch. Sorry you love him so much. And you're right, he plays better than I do... because I don't play the piano at all. But hey, give me three minutes with a keyboard and I'll make a video called "how to play chopsticks," and it will be better than this shit! : )

  • It's all wrong.

  • Omqee u tlk too much; just qet to the shiz

  • wach a couple vids from this gy and everyone will think you're piano master

  • you are awesome!!

  • Roland is still the best Digital Piano in my opinion because they were the first to make digital pianos.

  • The song is not in "c". How about Eb?

  • C minor blues scale is the same as Eb major blues scale. also the C7 normally means the key is some kind of C

  • he need to add more bass in it

  • He's a very good teacher

  • man everybody needs to shut up....this guy spend his time on this video ...for you guys...so ..IMATURE

  • dude thts bad :(

  • can i have the sheet music for this please and thank you. great lesson thank you very much...

  • this is soooo cool ! Thanks a lot !

  • What is that? A KR107?

  • yes, I believe that is the model number - possibly a KR105? Either way, it is another great piano Roland provided us for the shoot

  • a única parte últil do vídeo é dos 6:20 até 6:30..

  • don't like the bass sound though...

  • Scott Houston can't sing!

  • He's humming along with the song to get an idea across. That was all it was meant to be from what I pick up off this video. Effort wasn't necessary.

  • @titanicpiano14 No argument there :-)

  • pitch bend. . .

  • YouTube is wonderful! - I can work any chord out in the treble, on my piano, but the bass notes and rhythm are just not a happening thing for me! - This is EXACTLY what I've needed for years!

  • I know me too... this is very helpful... I like that baseline notes and rhythm are very helpful.... this is exactly what I've needed too ..... My friends are really going to see a difference in my playing with these little licks and tricks...

  • hes no singer tho

  • hahah. At first I thought you were being ignorant. But I LOL'd when I heard him.

  • oh, camojoe3 got told!

  • slide brother slide

  • hii

  • look up shawn cheek

  • I wish he'd just give me the notes. Hard to see the staff he gives you and hard to interpret where his hands are going.

  • "that's really swingin', isnt it?"

that made me laugh. i know it's not really that funny, i just wasnt expecting any humor at all.

  • The voice.. man...The tips are cool though

  • can someone help me figure out why this video and others wont load. I have downloaded flash and javascript.

    What can i do ???

  • Restart ie :p

  • download firefox :p

  • I'm an Opera fan.

  • ME like !!! gonna try this straittaway

  • I wish he would have outlined the actual piano parts from the recording. Also, his slide is incorrect! It should a semitone slide up to the note, not down to the note. Bah!

  • sooo if you know so much what are you doing watching it.. or even looking for it... :S

  • Exactly!

Everyone is so good at playing the piano but they don't post their videos do they?

    Everyone is a critic.

  • WHO CARES !

  • But who cares?

  • yeeeah who cares !?!

  • Great piano BTW im gonna get one of those

  • To play along with Elvis; Intro Guitar chords D then D# on this video. Easy to do D maj triad and then slide every note on the triad up half a step to form D# Maj. Then later add the octave of the root notes, for a phat chord. (D f# A D) to (D# G A# D#). Basic chords used on verse (G or G7; D or D7 and A7). I tried to send link to the video from J Chad that I am using.

  • The Blues Brothers version is in D aswell

  • Elvis video from J. Chad is in key of d I think

  • Get both! Like I have. Some songs are better for guitar and some are better for guitar. If you must choose; I'd select the instrument based on what you want to do music wise. I find piano the most versatile instrument and it is easier to do many inversion chords and jazz chords on piano. Both insts.can be found for affordable prices. Guitar is more physically demanding (not not good if you have severe arthritis or some other ailments).

  • the bassnotes are good played *according to notes* but it just doenst sound right cause ... it just doenst sound right.

but Damm .. this didnt help lol .. its explained for real beginners. its a nice tune but its not so impressive... try tetris thats nice :P

  • Bass notes are absolutely wrong

  • What notes do you use for the bass notes?

  • Awesome Video, The Left Hand Goes With Most Of My Songs That I Play =]

  • Hi!

    Good method!

Anyway, the bass line at the beginning of this song is wrongly played. Different as the original recording.

    Bye!

  • its called an octave not a tone

  • No, it's in the right octave, but they are playing it a tone (2 semitones) lower than the original

  • it's D and D# at the beginning. originally

  • Is it really? I've never heard a version in this key - who recorded it like this?

  • i don't know, i just tried to find it, and played along with the song....

  • Yes, the YouTube Elvis version from the film is in Eb (same as D#). Note that the slide parts are from D to Eb (slide up, not down). Also note that the melody uses the major third (E, in the key of C), not the minor third (Eb) as the Piano Guy is playing.

  • I know that D# and Eb sound completely alike, but fortunately most people play in key of Eb that contains 3 b's instead of D#, which contains 9 #'s. Heh.

    Cheers ;)

  • i know this is stupid question ha but im either gona get a guitar or a piano what is the esayest to learn? i like them both equaily but i just wanted to know whats the simplest to learn.

  • Guitar is easiest to learn. Piano is better. lol.

  • Guitar is easy if you don't have thin wrists. -_- Piano is more fun for me because I have longer fingers. :P Little lady-like hands, mhmmm.

  • what does thin wrists do to u playing guitar? i have thin wrists and long fingers and i play guitar and piano

  • thank god for long fingers. I can stretch a 14th

  • well...is it? :D

  • Why did he choose to go down to the C in the bass from the Db at the beginning instead of up from the B? That was the way it was recorded. Kinda strange but good tips overall.

  • ok I think I see what you are saying. Slide Bb to B then do the c for the pick up on intro. Yes. Like that better.

The other way is simpler, but it is useful for a quick trasition to the next verse.

  • ok elvis video does the b then c, . I guess 3 different ways could do an intro. But the elvis video does go up to the c as the other player says.

  • elvis video from J. Chad has two chords going up and not down. I transposed my tiny yammie keyboard 9 half steps to get it to play in same key as video using the fingerings I'd use if keyboard was at key c. I like octave Bbs then Cs myself . The more I play with this the more I keep figuring out some intro stuff to try.

  • are you an elvis fan?

  • -_-: eheheh was good till he started singing and maken noises while playing....or talking in the middle of when he was playing

  • musicians don´t need that

  • WHY ISN'T HE ON PBS ANY MORE

  • We are on PBS, PBS HD, and public broadcasting stations across the country.

  • good stuff

  • This Sucks..

  • DamienBoy13 you suck these are great

  • Your Mother!!

  • thanks these vids are great for musicians

  • Glad you're finding them helpful.

  • hi there i was wondering how to find some of the lessons with pros ive seen on tv, they are not on the dvds either.

  • Which segments are you interested in?

  • there was a few episodes i caught on tv, like pete moran teaching "this love" by maroon five, and someone teaching "over the rainbow" and another country song... theres just so many of them, but the show is not on air anymore in canada i dont understand why, it used to be on PBS every saturday on 2 pm. and if you can put them up here again id appreciate it!!!

  • What station were you watching the show on?

  • the PBS in Canada, it should be taken off of american PBS

  • I know some Canadian markets can see the show on US PBS stations close to the Canadian border. What area/province of Canada are you located?

  • The Piano Guy continues into its 8th season Across the US October 2007. We do put some of the segments on DVDs that are sold at our website. You might check some of these, too.

  • i said they are not included on the dvds

  • Oh yes, I see that you did mention that. I'll put your request on the list for possible future YouTube segments. There will also be two new Piano Guy DVDs coming out within the next few months. Might want to check back then.

  • greatly appreciate posting this. love it
