On the HS20 I have looked through the instructions and settings and I can't find how to turn manual focus on. At the moment, the manual focus dial behind the lens does not do anything. Does anyone know how to turn it on???

@barnersam if you use EXR Auto Mode please make sure you set to Other Modes or Set it to EXR Resolution Priority Mode , SN or DR . then Push ( AF C - S - M ) Button on the Left. Above WB Button. then you can set To manual focus.

There is an intention to create a "marketing" for the Sony HX-100V. The photos are with differences in exposure, diaphragm openings and depths of field. Ex: The photo of the statue with water effect with the HX-100 was used zoom and the bottom is clearly out of focus, time very fast shutter (1 / 1600) technique used for pictures with Macro, where the focus is prioritized in the subject main, seeking a sharper image. What did not happen with the HS-20. Nice try to increase sales of the HX-100.

@sanjunilugal the HS20 was awful and ruined my summer ! on bright days it would take photos that looked dull, when the evening came, it took photos that looked bright ! depending on how i held the camera, the light changed ! I,m not an expert,so these problems where on auto mode. Also the zoom produced too grainy/noisy photos to be of any use. i got it for the zoom for distant wildlife shots,but most were blurry! i sold it and now continue to use my S8100 no problems with the S8100

The Fujifilm uses standard batteries which is a huge put off for me. The HX100V has terrible movie mode formats and has a narrow lens. I think the FZ150 is the best of a bad bunch.

The canon will give you more choices to upgrade such as lens but you'll have to pay for it and canon will give you better image quality in low light

The Fuji will give you every focal lengths you need but at lower image quality.

I purchased the HS20 after owning the Panasonic FZ35.

Really happy with the camera, exposure can be a bit tricky but it can be mastered after you get to know how the camera 'sees' things.

The EXR sensor works extremely well.

I own a SONY HX1... since the SONY Hx1OOv came out, I got more interested on this model. because of its features on manual control Lens, a 30x zoom and higher pixels... and most of all, it still as a 10fps burst mode. Now I owned one, and to compare.... well, picture wise, the SONY HX1OOv has more accurate exposure, better quality detailed pictures, a more durable for a long lasting full HD video recording.... than the Sony HX1, and sO thats why it is more expensive...but its really worth it!

IF your into Photography.... it is NOT the looks of the camera that counts, it is the QUALITY, and ACCURATE exposure DETAILED color pictures that counts. I'm a Photographer and a NIKON user.... I find this typical point and shoot camera very amazing! Also, there is NO other professional cameras that has a 3D sweep Panoramic mode.

The sony looks ugly with that lens like that! The Fuji looks good n more like more a DSLR. Fuji's getting close with there Superzoom bridge cameras but it needs a way faster processor, click to capture frame rate n more video options. I'll get the Fuji superzoom maybe within the next few years when they perfect it!

My experience with Fuji bridge camera is to turn on the Chrome colour function if you want colourful photos. And use any computer software to adjust the contrast and brightness. Makes a huge difference. I have fooled people into thinking some of my shots were taken with a DSLR because of these little adjustments. Ofcourse i only do it with some shots, not all.

hey what about the shutter response time? I once tested a superzoom fujifilm camera and the photo was taken about a second after I clicked the shutter, unlike my canon s3is, which is totally great and has an amazing reponse time regarding this matter

HS20 is supposed to reach near DSLR speed with photos AFTER you turn off certain functions that slow the camera down. You also need to have a high speed memory card in it.

There is allot to gain in this area of camera tech. What super zoom is the most useful and offers the best image quality. I really hope that the EXR does gives it the 20-30% improvement it ought to give it. Because there is a gain... it won't go DSLR territory but I seen it work on the F200EXR series. It..works.

@masticina The 200EXR was a lower resolution EXR CCD. This is a higher resolution EXR CMOS. The sensor technology is better, certainly, but the added resolution causes issues given the rather small sensor size. I'd say there's no improvement, if not a step backwards, when comparing the HS20's images against the likes of the F300EXR (at a sensor level; keeping the lenses out of the equation).

Is it? Well maybe it is due to the numbers. A person who buys their first camera obviously gives it 5 stars.. because they haven't experienced better cameras. But true to be said the number of persons reviewing does fix that skew. And true to be told it is obvious that really bad cameras are hardly made these days. Well chinese crap sold under the vivitar or kodak brand maybe. Hell even Kodak has improved... they are still a C-brand but at least they improved.
