I think it was passionate and powerful just the way it should be. This is how she sings and she credits Etta for her style so, I believe it was the best time to show off the style and talent that Etta James influenced. The outfit well, maybe not the time to show those off.

she has a good voice yes..BUT...her execution of the song is horrible...Christina'a biggest problem is her style....the oooo's and aaa's in her singing is overdone!! She drags the notes and it just kills the song.....notice the song is not as beautiful as when Etta James sang it.

i love christina aguilera, and though i agree that she did overdid the embellishments on this song to take it away from the original feel of it, she did it with her own style that is so powerful and just so unique, and made it her own performance. and if you're familiar with her live performances, the people who criticise her should know that she sings like this with pretty much every one of her own songs - not just covers.
