I really agree with what Little Kuriboh is saying. 4Kids do a fantastic job in bringing what kids love to the kids. They didn't originally select an older target audience.

They also employ some of the most charismatic voices in the business, next to Ocean Group. They may dumb down the story line for kids, but they still make it interesting for even older fans to watch, even if they like the original series or manga.

In all honesty, I can't get mad at 4Kids, because they adapt Japanese TV shows for, as the names suggests, kids. It's not like they're calling themselves 4Otaku. Matter of fact, if you've gotten into the anime scene enough to rank on American adaptations, there's a good chance those same adaptations got you into anime in the first place. 4Kids is like the "gateway drug" of Japanophilia.

Their are some points in which, they go completely off script, they should at least stick to the script. Also they shouldn't edit out death, one can't edit death out of everyday life, some kids may have experienced a loss, like their pet goldfish, or a grandparent. Editing out guns is a bit ridiculous children may have seen far worse on TV then one person brandishing a weapon. Some of the voice acting is bad, while in other parts it is good, Australian accent for Jack Atlas, Bad its whiny and ..

@MaitlandJones annoying, but Joey's Brooklyn accent, absolutely brilliant. Not only that, but the voice for Atem by Dan Green, also brilliant. The only corrections to the dub for me is, stick to the script as closely as possible, don't edit out too much content, make sure to have decent voice acting, Also, keep the original soundtrack, I love the Japanese soundtrack for Yugioh 5D's, if only 4Kids kept that in the American dub. The fact that they do edit material is is evidence they are decent people. @MaitlandJones was a kid, when I belonged to the age group 4kids was marketing too, most of the people at my high school who play yugioh got their start when they were kids, and that is why 4kids markets to kids, so they can get younger players into playing yugioh, eventually some will get older, write off yugioh as just a kids show and quit playing, others will keep playing the game, because it is fun.

the 4kids censorship is pretty bad, but they try their best, and the dub isn't half bad. I grew up with mostly 4kids dubs, and for example when I watched pokemon in Japanese, I was quite alienated and had get familiar with the voices.

I don't understand why people degrade 4Kids. Honestly, the people who insult them are the ones who were the most miffed when they found out how badly they censor Yugioh. Without 4Kids, though, probably no one in America would know of Yugioh, unless they went to Japan.

Pokemon wasn't as....violent, I guess, as Yu Gi Oh was, and when there was something violent, they didn't translate it, like the Safari Zone episode (Episode 35).

They did air a episode with bombs and guns this is the squirtle episode

They were used light heartedly, bombs to scare away the squirtle, Jesse used some sort of ice gun that caused snow.

The safari zone episode, game warden (Kaiza) repeatedly threatened Ash for singing, if he broke the rules of safari zone (gun was pointed straight at Ash's head in that scene), trying to say that there's a dratini in safari zone, etc. But that's enough, I've said my 2 cents, like they said, no starting a war about 4Kids censorship. =)

Yeah, but in the Squirtle Squad episode when Ash goes into the store everyone in it points pistols, shotguns and other guns at him.

if they cut that episode out, then there would be more confusion than the safari zone episode. Sure, hundreds of Tauros were captured in the Safari Zone, but that doesn't matter that much. Squirtle is a big deal, and if he magically appeared, while charmander and bulbasaur were explained, then children all over wouldn't know what the fuck was going on.

I never interpreted "Aibou" (partner) as hinting to a gay relationship. I just took it for what it was. It's a powerful word and, I think, the most appropriate one to describe Yugi and Atem. As far as Pokemon goes I frown upon new episodes, but It's fine because I know Pokemon as the original series. Anyway, Project YGO, I admire your work so far and knowing that there's insightful people behind the scenes who want to do justice to Yu-Gi-Oh! makes me happy. You've got a fan and subscriber in me.

I actually think the constantly changing characters hurt more than it helped. Change of scenery, sure, but I think Pokemon would have been alot more successful if Ash and co. grew up, instead of constantly rotating traveling companions and introducing new species of pokemon, never to really mention the old ones again.

The new series really feels like a cheap cash-in.

There WERE a few non kid-friendly themes censored out of the Pokemon movie at least. The big moral at the end got changed pretty extensively, plus there were a few issues about artificial life (they actually brought up god, which was kinda surprising) that totally got left out of the translation. So Iunno. Saying the original Pokemon was kid-friendly isn't TOTALLY true, although yeah, for the most part 4kids didn't have to censor too much.

Most people who dub these days do what they can to make it as close to the original as possible, but it's still going to be different from the original.

4kids would definately do better. The only version of dub that I feel they absolutely failed at was One Piece. But I mean, I loved Pokemon and YugiOh when I was younger. I loved TMNT too. So I dunno, they made the TV part of my childhood but One Piece ruined their reputation for me.

This interview, I think personally, was the best interview of LK done on YouTube by means of quality and content. There were certain flaws, but level of interest I had for the entire interview overshadowed it. Great job guys :D

The whole One Piece stealing video completely disheartened. Whoever the hell did that is such an ass I think :3 At least FMA is still there.

I agree with LK, I'm in the same position as to not knowing what yugioh was were it not for 4Kids picking it up and dubbing it.

I've never hated the company and really it's up to us,as fans, if we really dislike the 4Kids version, to source the original version and (if needed)one with subtitles.
