  • This is awesome! I learned more from this video than my whole semester in J school.

  • I teach at Michigan State University and used to work with this fool Joe Little.... He is such a pain to work with... but he knows his stuff!!!! ... Just kidding about the pain to work with... I use this clip every semester!

  • Love it! I'm showing my Middle School Video Journalism class this to emphasize to them that the reporter and his/her stand up is NOT ALWAYS THE story! I have to learn how to duplicate yourself in FCP, as you obviously have done!

  • I teach journalism at Northwestern and I use this in my classes every quarter.

  • Thanks. Let me know if you ever want me to participate in a class.

  • i loved this.. very inspiring.. I was an intern at channel 10 last Fall. I am curious as how you do some of the editing of you in the shot mulitpile times at the sametime... you are an excellent reporter!

  • Joe!!! This is TOO great! This is Maureen from way back in High School at good old Bishop O'Connell. You are hilarious and it looks like you're having a lot of fun!

  • Thanks Maureen! A little bit of fun. How'd you find the video?

  • Finally after years Jill and I get get some of that Joe little fix we've been missing since the WHAG days! All that was missing was the classic Stewart Little movie premiere package.

  • WOW that was FUN! Great work! I'm an editor at CBS News and your putting us out of work but if guys like you keep doing work like that at least we'll be laughing as we circle around the drain! Keep up the good work....and by the way, I think you need a raise!!

  • Thanks dude. And there's no way I'm threatening anyone's job. I probably know half as much as you do about editing. But yes, I do need a raise.

  • My packages are between 1:15 and 1:30 and I turn them in a workday, before deadline. Never more than 7 hours to research, set-up, shoot, write, and edit.

  • Great stuff! I have to ask, how long on average are each of your stories and how long do you have to turn each package?

  • I like the split screen effect you do where you put yourself in the same shot at the same time. How did you do it with the shot where there was 3 of you?

  • I did it the same way I described in the poynter online article. Only using an effect on FCP called 8-point matte.

  • where can i find that article? I have FCP and I'd like to try that out.

  • I would love to work with a reporter like you. All of the reporters I work with hardly ever use a standup in their packages...let alone a creative one.

  • Thanks! I really appreciate that.

  • Wow, you have a gift, Joe!! In the telephone standup, how did you put yourself in the shot three times...and what editing program do you use?

  • Final Cut Pro. I used the same technique I talked about in the poynter online article.

  • Great stuff!

How did you know you were in the frame in the shot at 2:20? (How did you know where to stand?)

  • Flip -over viewfinder. Greatest invention ever.

  • OK, I guess that was kinda a "duh" question. I just though you wouldn't be able to see yourself from so far. Thanks!!

  • Very well done. You have WHAG buzzing... and wishing we had non linear editing!

  • Thanks! Couldn't figure out who you are from the NBC 25 website. It's amazing how much of that video I learned from the HAG 10 years ago.

  • I am the live truck op... Not important enough for the website! haha. But, great work! Love all the camera angles.

  • Mark showed this to me today @ WHAG----I'm so inspired to do more creative stuff. I know we don't know eachother, but if you have any advice for a new reporter, I'd welcome them with open arms! :)

  • Joe - Mark showed this in our morning news meeting. Gave my reporters LOTS of ideas. Nice work. Did you shoot most of these yourself? Also, any easy tips on stop motion - and the multi-Joe effect?

  • After watching this news clip, I would hire you in a second! Informative, entertaining, attention getting (and keeping!!) and HILARIOUS! Plus, it really helps that you are easy on the eyes!!! :)
