  • Cool song... can't help liking Sarah Polley's version much better, though.

  • Love that Boston Bruins sweater!!

  • i didnt know they came to saskatoon

  • Fucking EPIC! They rocked Saskatoon on Tuesday!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • so i take it u live in saskatchewan then?

  • I'm from Ireland and very envious of Canadians. What an amazing band, first five albums (actually all I have right now) are amazing pieces of work, there is something to be said for how these guys make music, how they tell stories through music.

Courage, it couldn't come at a worse time :)

  • As a Canadian and a fan I am thrilled to read that!! And of course I couldnt agree more!!

  • There coming to Dublin in December, I cannot wait for that :D

  • canadianleaders said it best he has a style like jim morrison, not many people agree with me on that, but gord does carry off and add things into songs or even his stage persona is just like the late great Jim

  • You know you are a great band when I grew up listening to you...( and I'm 29) But you were and are solid...... You said alot of what so many people went through... I totally love an respect you guys for all the years of great music and memories!!!!! Totally dude;) Yes, I'm a stoner but totally give props to YOU GUYS:)

  • the beginning of the best Hip album and definitely one of the best albums of all times world wide.

awesome he reminds me with his singing stile on Jim Morrison

  • I always thought he acted and looked like Jim Morrison too!!

  • How often do you see a video in which the singer is smiling through the whole song. I love it!

  • Amazing song by an amazing band.

  • Did the cameramen forget Paul was in the band?

  • lol... i thought i was the only one who noticed

  • Under pressure, under pressure!!!! \m/

  • yo fucking fool, gord is one of the greatest and unique singers of all time

  • As well as Dallas Green. In my opinion they're up there with Frank Sinatra. Godly voices.

It's a shame they're not known too widely as they should be.

  • dallas green isnt even close to this league

  • im going to see the guys in newfoundland

  • ive seen them thrice, amazing each and every time

  • im seeing them tomorrow

    cannot frigging WAIT!!

  • I saw them in Belleville, ON and they were great!

  • i worked security at that show, amazing

  • Cool. The show was amazing!

  • I have seen them twice in concert, once outside in Kelowna, BC and once indoors in Victoria, BC

  • my mom whent to school whith one of these guys

  • yep definetly agree.

  • nickelback is gay. The hip fucking rocks

  • their not even close to comparable lol :p

  • The Tragically Hip >>>>>>>> Nickelback.

If I have to hear Chad Krogers "8 Million Nickelback fans can't be wrong" speech again, I'll break my monitor.

  • post a vid of an attempt

  • i dun think so man, remember the trick, everyone else was drunk too lol. im a guitarist not a singer

  • yeahhh its just music some might be awsome some might be gay but who cares man

The hip Rocks going to see them in London

  • Got to love the hip! Makes me want the sun to shine and the brew to flow!

  • Tied for best canadian band, tied with neil young.

  • neil young not a band! Thats leaves Hip alone on top!!!!!

  • neil young and crazyhorse, crosby stills nash and young, buffalo springfield... those sound like bands to me? neils got the edge. I love the hip tho.

  • buffalo springfield isnt canadian

  • nah rush deff number one, the hip a close second tho

  • I think neils gotta have the edge..... but the hip are a close second

  • I love Canada. Very Clean

  • hot damn

  • I watched "The Sweet Hereafter" just to hear this song being played. Talk about one of the best movies ever made.

  • sweeeeetest canadian band ever

  • I was on a cruise ship in the Medditeranean and they played this song by the pool........good times.

  • i love the hip i like all they're songs idc if your a gangsta or a rocker u have to like the hip no lie

  • yo i dont even listen to this kind of music all hip hop for me but this song is nice no lie lol its kind of refreshing :D

  • These guys are a great summer band, something you wanna listen to outside

  • i was raised doing that!

  • the tragically hip kick ass!!!!!

  • my english teacher likes this song

  • Who doesn't like this song?

  • gtfo

  • ehhhh??

  • ya rush is okay (although i honestly can't stand Getty Lee's voice). I forgot to mention Sloan though, they're pretty good. I find April Wine somewhat weak though, i just don't find it very interesting and there never seems to be much buildup...

  • what's wrong with being proud of canadion music makonu2? I agree you are a shit disturber wow u named to crappy canadian bands good for u. How many crappy american bands are there?

  • Yeah, I don't even remember what i replied to. However, I'm sure all I meant was stop arguing over music. As for the being proud of Canadian music bit you decided to add in there... I never once said not to be. Fuck man, lay off... and learn to spell douche bag.

  • why is the embedding disabled on on these songs?

  • You're forgetting Our Lady Peace!

  • Damn rihgt! OLP the Hip, and you forgot RUSH!!!!! are some of the greates bands of our time.

  • Canada pride! but ya, i wish we had more famous bands... Also Nickelback is pretty bad. I think the best Canadian bands are Tragically Hip, The Guess Who, Broken Social Scene, and Metric (which is technically both Canadian and American, but Emily Hayes is Canadian so yay!)

  • what about april wine and rush?

  • This song makes me proud to be Canadian!!

  • Amen to that!

    Canadian Music will Never Die.

  • i hate shit disturbers. it's music... just fucking listen to it and shut up... fuck...

  • Are you also proud of Nickelback and the Barenaked Ladies?C'mon!

  • Some of us in the States are damn glad you Canadians know how to rock. Now if you could just figure out how to get more of us to listen.

  • fuckin eh canadians rule this is proof

  • Fucking awesome guitars in this song. I never get tired of listening to them.

  • Fuckin Right.. One more reason to be a proud canadian !

  • fuckin eh

  • im not a bruins fan but wearing a hockey sweater during his video. true canadian, not all that bling and half naked women prancing about. this is one reason we should be proud to be canadian, i know i am

  • im proud to be canadian... i love our music culture and everything especially the tragically hip

  • After watching the brilliant film "The Sweet Hereafter" by Canadian director Atom Egoyan, I discovered "Courage" and TTH. Great song. While TTH's original kicks ass and is the definitive rendition of the song, I found Sarah Polley's version from the movie quite hypnotic. I can see by the comments that TTH have a huge following in Canada, but seem to have flown below the radar in the U.S. Our loss! They're excellent.

  • I've seen a lot of canadian national pride expressed in an amongst the tragically hip threads. While at the same time I have read negative statements about other countries involved in some sort of stupid debate on what country has better musical performers.

How freakin retarded is that !

personally I feel that if music is a human state of expressions and emulations the city, state, country is of no consequence.

  • Nail on the head. Not just proud to be Canadian, but proud to be diverse.

  • "But that night as I drove back to Montreal I at least discovered this: that there's no simple explanation for anything important any of us do, and that the human tragedy, or the human irony, consists in the necessity of living with the consequences of actions performed under the pressure of compulsions so obscure we do not and cannot understand them."

Hugh Maclennan is a worthy read.

  • american music is canadian music's bitch.

  • doesnt he look like beecher from oz?

  • Great video, great song.

  • Great song great band.

  • Gordon Downie is wearing the Buins jersey because he is the god son of the boston bruins coach, and yes gordon played hockey in the minor leagues as a golie and i damn good one at that. HA yah no one can cover this song or any other TTH song and it be better than the oringinal not even sarah polley

  • check out the bruins jersey in this one. Go B'S!! Oh to join the rush. I think these guys are skaters.

  • i wouldnt be suprised there from kingston im sure they grew up playing hockey

  • wow thats poop.

  • Riiiiiiigggghhhttttttt. Sarah Polley's version is poop compared to the Hip baby. Stop smokin' the BC bud and tune in.

  • cool

  • my daughter and i danced to this tune for the father of the bride and brides song.

this is the ultimate hip song, and gang, a local rock band called the Scrotes can do all the HIP songs to a tee

  • why would you call youre band the scrotes :S

  • drum machine

  • rem blows

  • what the hell is he doing from 2:33 to 2:38? lol

  • The only people who come close to Canadians are Australians. They hate yanks too!

  • an ex-girlfriend got me into this band and I haven't looked back since!

  • Same here! In fact, I haven't looked back on American music in general, and I live in the U.S.

  • free health care in canada for canadians.

  • he is wereing a boston shirt

  • fuck u americans, canadians are the best, and we have the best in the world to live.all u americans stay were u belong,we dont need a wannbe hosers in our country.u wouldnt be true canadians,u werent born here so u wouldnt be a true canadian.take of A!

  • you got that right C is for CANADIAN!!!!

  • CANADIANS RULE!!!!!!

  • Why all the negative attitude?

  • Damn, guys....I've always been embarrased when i heard my fellow Americans thinking they're better than everyone else... but appearently there are Canadians that are just as pathetic...

p.s. fuck the leafs. i wish Rob Ray was still here to beat the shit outta you guys lol

  • I hear that man, arrogance is bs, no matter who its coming from. And yeah, f the leafs indeed. Thanks to the shitty coverage of the canadiens cup run, I don't think I'll be watching HNIC at all.

  • yea dude (or dudette lol) i was actually rooting for montreal even tho yer my division rivals...and hockey in general is undercovered or whatever the word is...so unfortunate seeing as it's pretty much the only sprot left that isn't plague with steroid use and crime and whatnot...

  • For laurie

I hope she finds her courage

  • let me know.any yanks heard or seen a better band.

  • ya ur a fag.

  • but you're comparing a bunch of band that all play different styles. this is different but just as good

  • fuck rush and those bands this is all HIP right here booi.

  • i listen to the hip over those bands everyday

  • yup rush sucks which is why your gay.srv dont know ben thompson sucks rem is gay because michal stipe is plus you cant compare canada to amercia.

  • This song is amazing. But New Orleans is sinking is the best :)

I want to go to canada :)

  • Yes, but, more importantly, you want to come to British Columbia - Vancouver Island is especially nice.

  • haha i was just there on the weekend

  • I am dedicating this song to a very dear person that I loves alot...I heard of them before but he got me into this band!!! (Thank U) and Itz being dedicated to

and i luv him lots you know who you are

mi babi boi love you XXXXX

  • god I miss Canada

  • monsoonostrichh... COME BACK!!! :P

  • I'm married to an English girl and living in England but I think of Ontario all the time. I have only been over here a few years. I miss the winter, I miss the forests. I have visited back home twice, but listening to some good Canadian music takes me on a vacation in my head.

  • The human tragedy is the necessity of living with the consequences.....

  • My favorite song by them is "Fiddler's Green"!!!! This is my mom's favorite song and it's her fault (in a good way)that she turned me on to them! CBS should showcase them in "How I Met Your Mother" for the Robin character as she's from CANADA!!! That'd be perfect exposure

  • couldn't come at a worse time -sic

  • i been to their concert!

  • This is a sad song, I nearly break into tears when I hear it sometimes. I mean it really tugs at you sometimes.

This is one of their best.

  • GORDIE IS DA MAN.

  • is that a boston shirt?, that don't fly with me, even if the band is amazing

oh well they got slaughtered last night gaame 7 5-0!!!!!! eat it boston fans!!!!

but yeah this song is awesome!!!

  • You mean the game with Montreal. Boy did they celebrate on the streets on Montreal that night.

  • Beautiful solo at the end. I will never get sick of this song...

  • thanks 4 posting im seeing them in june in belleville ont

there cool going 2 see them with my buddys

  • Hey! There are many of us in the states that love the Hip! Been following them since '89 or '90. lar

  • Love the homemade Bruins sweater!

  • i know it's been said a thousand times but i just can't believe these guys didn't have more international success. must be a Canadian sound we get & others don't.

  • so true!

  • He looks maniacal in the video, I LOVE IT!

  • Great song and band. Sarah Polley's haunting version of this song from 'The Sweet Hereafter' soundtrack is great too.

  • The Tragically Hip, the New Radicals, James, and the Catherine Wheel would be a pretty good show.

  • If you replace the New Radicals with either Cracker or World Party, then were good.

    Cheers eh!

  • I'd agree with with James. Just to get you excited, they have a new CD.

  • Sounds good.

Whatever happened to the Judy Bats?

  • Driving to and from college had to listen to the Hip for 3 hours...over and over..still love em!!

  • i love this band.... repeat!!!!!!!!

  • this solo is the all time best solo from this bands album :)

  • I love this song! I first heard the Sarah Polley cover a year ago in a movie and I liked this version even better.

  • Respect from belgium, love this band and song!!

  • why didnt thy guitar player just talk to me???

  • I AM CANADIAN this band KICKS SOOOO MUCH ASS!!!.......CAN U DIG IT

  • you know... we are extremely lucky as Canadians to have such an amazing band putting out hit after hit on our airways. So they didn't make it in the states... big deal. They're OURS... hit after hit, track after track, album after album... purely Canadiana. Also, the douche who says Kingston is rotten was probably in one of the penitentiaries. The Limestone City is a beautiful place.

  • They didn't make in the states??? how??? they kick asss!!! the states don't know good music!!!

  • Right u r diablo. I love this song. As I listen the reasons change. When I think back to the first time i herd this It all come back.

  • This is the best hip song of all time. The way gord puts his lyrics together is truly genious."piss on all of your backround and piss on all your surrounding." OH YEAH!! awesome song, love it!!!!

  • A country rock bar band....are you serious pal the Hip is a great rock band with songs that have true meaning, i bet you are just a donkey american that follows the crowd...grow up bud(earthsystem03)

  • Hmm, you're trying to describe a overhyped band that's basically "...a counrty rock bar band..." from a crappy place to live...

That's not the Hip, that's Nickleback...

  • *Nickelback (sp)

  • earthsystem03 you sure watch alot of hip vids for someone who hates them.maybe nobody spoke to you because you have less personality than the stick you're shaking at your rotted, venomous fangs

  • AMEN!

  • good 1

  • good 1

  • Nicklesucksac tell chad krogar whatever the fuck his name is to get a haircut and get rid of the bleach its horrible.

  • I have been following the Hip since the late 80's. The Heep (Uriah Heep for the youngsters), Alice In Chains and the Hip are the best. Lar

  • i listened to Fully Completely and i can see where bands like The Watchmen get their sound from. THE HIP IS CANADA'S BAND!!

  • I saw Gordi interviewed on Much, years ago. He said the song was about Kurt Cobain's suicide, he was reading Hugh's book when he got the news. They did a show together, wanted Kurt to come onstage with them but he just stood at the back and watched through the dancers because the Hip were playing their new stuff, he didn't know it. They said, we'd have played any song you wanted. Courage, man. Kurt said, "yeah, courage." Courage... couldn't come at a worse time.

  • The song came out in 1992 and Cobain died in 1994 so as far as the song being about his death the dates don't add up.

    Amazing album just the same...

  • Yeah, well that is what he said on Much anyway.

  • What's important is that you believe it, right?

  • First Vid I saw on 9-11 was him, standing there, wigglin away. Managed to lift my spirits.

  • Gord's wearing a Bruins Jersey. That's awesome!

  • some might say... it took some courage?

  • This song has a dark tone to it, doesn't it?

    Whatever, this is awesome song.

    Best band ever.
