I hate to be a party pooper kingrusher. but when I looked at the game with houdini it shows white is just better after 21) hxg3 ...fxg3 22 Bxg3 just refusing the Rook on move 21. seems piket was to tempted to win material here and fell into a bad position soon after 21 Rxa8
i think the problem with this commentated game is that nothing is said about Piket's wins before this game, when black played 17...h5 and the Dutch master had a patent tested plan of pushing the a pawn to a6 allowing his white squared bishop to get into play and neutralise the Black king side attack, with advantage, This is why Kasparov's ...Bf8 was such an important move for KID theory.
@Drwhofan1971 I'm not really sure I understand why this is so funny? Did you try it with Rybka and found that the engine could easily give the correct evaluation? Or have I missed something else?
Great video! Please explain something for me though... in your variation where the computers are "screaming out" for hxg3 fxg3 Bxg3 etc, at one point you have white play g2-g4 saying that mate is threatened. But the Ne1 covers this so I don't understand g2-g4 in this line. Thanks!
Well, yes, mate is threatend but black has ...Nxg2 and white can't play Nxg2 due to either Nf4 or Rg7 threatening mate in 1. if white on the other hand does not take the knight on g2, black appears to have a deadly attack even though I don't see a mate (eg 1. ...Nxg2 2. Kh1 Nxe1 3. Qxe1 Nf4 fails to 4. Rg1 pinning blacks queen to the king)
What I do wonder about though is after the 'killer-move' Be7 at 4:05 in the vid, why not simply Bf2, which seems to safe the day?
I think its because the postilions and the idea flanking the bishop was non-normal. Therefore people called it indian, because everything in India is exotic etc.
Kingscrusher: Outstanding demonstration of the weakness of the "mighty" Rybka, and of the way powerful engines are still over-materialistic in some variations.
Also: "sorry I had to show so many different variations, but they are too beautiful".
This is in 100 greatest chess games of all time. Great game. A 2 part video needed just to deal with the complications. Some game tho from Kasparov. A genious!
Tremendous game and tournament as a whole by Kasparov! The amount of energy, skill and dedication by Garri is just mind boggling...
Thanks Kingcrusher - for presenting so many videos in such great style! It is a perfect launchpad for further home analysis - this game I need to spend a few hours on... ;-)

At 4:58, there is no threat of mate. The knight covers the square g2

Great vid. I love the KID. Don't forget Nunn's win over Beliavsky as a classic.

Bf8!? was a novelety, and so good that the variation b4 + Rc1 is seen as bad today.

I don't quite understand King's Indian with its moronic moves like d6 and fuzzy maneuveuring.I preffer to play Grunfeld and Sicilian myself.
Why Indian is named this way?
