I enjoyed this game way more then Mario Galaxy but that may be because Mario Galaxy isn't suited to my liking come to think about it I never really liked Mario at all that much.
Despite its flaws I serously enjoyed just as much if not more then Metroid Prime 2 Echoes and Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, and Samus Aran was far from being an idiot or a pussy, other wise how would she have been able to take down most of the monsters and bosses in this game singlehandedly, and that freak out scene with Ridley is understandable considering when she was 3 years old she watched Ridley burn her parents to death. I seriously think this is a higly overhated game.
Amongst the complainers, many were Prime players and hated Other M for not being 100% 1st person. They didn't even know the classic 2D platform games. About Samus' personality, it was never well explored, the classic games didn't have technology for voiced dialogues, the Prime didn't explore her personality. She's not sissy, she's human, has emotions, she's not a robot... Nothing against Adam giving orders too. Other M is not my favourite but is good. Metroid series has the best plot I know.
I don't think this game is as bad as people say. It felt like a nostalgia trip at some points, but I think it needed to transcend that boundary and become a great game in it's own right.
This game should've taken place when Samus first gets her power suit and that was the audience learns with her. Instead of sounding like a teen's diary, it would play on Samus's insecurities and fears as she is learning to cope not only as life as a bounty hunter, but of the loss of her home colony.

@Blackcat5595 If you're making a paper about the stereotypical portrayal of women in video-games, you've struck gold. Team Ninja wanted to characterize Samus, emphasizing on her being a woman soldier. However, what they actually turned Samus into was a subservient, whining little girl subservient to her male boss. Male audiences will find her unrelatable. Female audiences will find this game offensive.
Everytime they have something great, they ruin it.... I loved metroid prime and echoes... the atmosphere was amazing, that lone wanderer feel of it was magnificent... and the fact that I had to figure out what to do next instead of having some random npc telling me what to do, made that feel look authentic... that's what set those games apart from most other, now though, they've gone to the cheap thrills section. the sort of game i play just out of curiosity.... pity...
@krontaar How could they have Ruined Samus Aran's character when she was barely what one would even call a character in all prior Metroid games, despite her heroic acts in previous Metroid games they gave us no idea whatsoever as to what kind of character Samus Aran is, and she still kicked Ridley's and ever other enemys and bosses a## in this game like every other game she just froze up once when confronting Ridley but then snaped out of it and kicked his A@# like every other boss.

@MrMetroid1998 of course she is someone you controlled and that in a way is what made her good. she (and master chief from halo) was such a good character because she wore aromour and said nothing so you could create your own hero behind the mask, this is why it was such a shock when she turned out to be a women-a perfect plot twist in the first games. Some of the cut scenes in this game are actually good but most of them fall flat and are just plain laughable or cringeable.

I played this game and finished, its nowhere near as bad as those cry baby haters make it out to be, and theres nothing sexist about the potrail of Samus in Other M.
I don't understand why so many people said this game stopped Samus from being a badass. If you actually looked at the GAMEPLAY instead of cutscenes, you would see her jumping around, judoing enemies down and then blasting their faces off, jumping INSIDE her unconscious enemies' BODY and blowing it up, ETC. The combat was EPIC.

This game was actually very fun. I've beat it. It's the storyline that was kind of dissapointing. I mean, what happened to just blowing up the entire fucking planet? ah the good old days.
Metroid 5 is so unpredictable! I wonder how the plot will be... Would the X parasite have survived somehow? In this case, would domesticated metroids be used on the side of humans, this time? Would SA-X, which was absorbed by Samus, cause her double personality or other sort of trouble? Or would mutated metroids (imune to cold) from all evolution stages escape from a lab in a human planet? Anything can happen in the next game. I can't wait to play it in my dreamed Wii U.
@Bruno1986BR Metroid 5? Metroid Prime is the 5th Metroid game. If you consider Prime to be its own subseries and disregard Zero Mission because it is a remake, Other M is the 5th one.

@Jonassoe Prime series is chronologically between Metroid 1 and 2. And Other M is between Super (3) and Fusion (4). In Fusion, Samus talks about Adam, that he died for her once, then she finds out that the computer that guides her the whole game is Adam's copied mind (probably from his helmet). But in Other M he is still alive. Then Other M can't be a 5. The next game is confirmed by Nintendo to be after Fusion (4), then will be the 5.
@Jonassoe Metroid Other M is not terrible or "un-Metroid-like" I played it myself and enjoyed it just as much as any other Metroid excluding Metroid Zero Mission and the first Metroid Prime and I have played every Metroid game except Metroid 2 Return of Samus, Metroid Other M is no masterpeace but its not even close to being anywhere near a bad game not by a long shot.

Dont blame Team Ninja for the story. The whole game was designed by Nintendo and made by Team Ninja. But aside from the story, the actual game wasn´t that bad actually. I enjoyed it. Specially the characters were cool.

Then, based on my 2 last comments, I think they should make a trailer or a narration video that makes clear that Metroid Prime was just a spin-off between Metroid 1 and 2, this way the new Metroid players would stop complaining.
Tomb Raider is being rebooted, then the next game (simply called Tomb Raider) will be the 1st of a new series, paralel from the classic, rewritting Lara Croft's story. To make clear that it wasn't a Tomb Raider 9 neither a Zero, the developers showed Lara much younger, a picture of her just graduated and using an I-pod. If it was 9, she would look older (like did in 8). If it was Zero, at begin of the 1990s there weren't I-pods. These discrite details help making clear that it's a reboot.
There's too much confusion from the new players of Metroid series. They're mad that Other M wasn't 100% 1st person like Prime series because they don't know that Prime series was a SPIN-OFF chronologically between Metroid 1 and 2.
Just like Samus' narration before Other M, in Metroid 5 she should mention that Prime was between 1 and 2, make clear that Dark Samus was a mutated metroid, mention facts from Other M and Fusion, and that SA-X is originally an X-parasite.
I don't stop thinking how is the next Metroid game gonna be like. I LOVE Other M, I just hope in the next game they put more places in 2D platform, the original gameplay style.
I'm hoping in the next Metroid, they make the gameplay like Other M, but with a few changes. They should have it so you have to aim at the screen to fire where you want instead of auto targeting. It would be more challenging. They should also make it much, much longer. Keep the cinematics, but make them shorter, and have Samus talk less. They should either scrap fist person mode, or let you atually move in that mode.
Other M was good, it did exactly what nintendo wanted it to do. It was a kind of 3d side scroller. IMO
Metroid Prime 1 - Other M - Prime 3 ( a close third) - Prime 2 (Kinda seemed to me to be a weak attempt at reacreating prime 1, maybe ill give it another go soon
I just hope Metroid 5 be made for Nintendo Wii U, not for 3DS, because portable consoles always have lower technology than non-portable. I just HATE Nintendo for having made Metroid 2 (personally my favorite) and 4 (Fusion) for GameBoy, they could have been a lot cooler if Nintendo made them for SNES and GameCube. And they are from the original series, which is much more important than Prime series, which was just a spin-off that new fans like but don't even know the classic series exists.
I really don't get why everyone complains about this game so much. I really enjoyed the story, the gameplay, the graphics, and the music. In fact, the story was my favorite thing about the game. I'll be honest Prime 1 and 2 where the best games to be released on the gamecube. But Prime 3 was no where near as good. The way I see it is this game has Prime 3 beaten easy. By then again why compare? This isn't Prime. Its a different style entirely. Enjoy it for what it is.

I hope Metroid 5 comes with same graphic quality, but the VERY most of the gameplay in 2D platform, Metroid's classic gameplay. In second place there should be many parts in 1st person. I also loved Samus being able to grab and fight the enemies. And just a few parts should be in 3D. That's my opinion about gameplay.
I also hope we can fight ALL bosses, find powers (not only energy and missiles) and explore 100% helpless, with out Adam's mind computer to help. But I wanna see Adam and Anthony.

@link7018 The controls are good but the story and Samus are wrong. Sakamoto got the small bits right but changed her actual back story. She left the military because they wouldn't let her persue the space pirates and restricted her to "light" duty. She wanted to help, to prevent what happened to her as a child, Adam supported her decision and they remained close friends. She got over her fear of Ridley after theeir first fight where she literally screams over his corpse and lets go of her past

@Tair94 Sure! Zelda deserves too. The only movie from Nintendo I know is Mario (1993) and SUCKED! I don't get Nintendo, why don't they make a new Mario Movie, Metroid, Zelda and Donkey Kong (3D like Kung Fu Panda) in the movies? These characters are all famous and popular, surely would rock in the movies! ... if they call good directors and writters that AT LEAST play the games before planning the movies, of course. Movies based on games use to suck because directors like Uwe Boll don't play.
@Bruno1986BR Yeah that would be cool, but I don't think it's really up to Nintendo when a movie is in the process of being made. They would sell the rights to a movie studio or someone who would then probably get writers and directors and whatnot. And if I remember correctly Kojima was vehemently against the idea of Uwe Boll getting the rights to Metal Gear. If only other game developers cared so much for thier creations....
@joevox316 Yes, when a game company sells the rights of a game to a studio, it's the studio who decides how the movie will be. If I was Nintendo, I would sell only after according that the writter and director play (or watch) the whole game to make the movie as alike the game as possible. In the case of Metroid, I'd make a movie based on Metroid 1 (not Zero Mission, which was based on that childish manga and had that boring extension after Mother Brain), but adding Adam and Anthony to the cast.

But it's acceptable when they change only details, sometimes. Like Hitman, the movie was great. In the game, the hitmen are clones. In the movie, they were homeless children, discarded by society, taken to be trained to kill. That's simpler and better.
While i'm never against innovation , i feel that games with a perfect premise should not be experimented to that extent were the mechanics feels like an entire different game,
OTHER M had mediocre gameplay as the game felt like you always were rushing throu and with one button kill sequence action (i get bored of it rather fast) the game got simplified to that extent were you never had to put any real effort in progressing.
Metroid shouldn't be fast paced & linear. neither in 3D
Some people said Metroid 5 will be the last. I don't know if that's true, if that is, well, the plot was about to have an end, but I wouldn't like Metroid to end before making a movie. Many games became movies before their 5th anniversaries, why Metroid, older than me, still doesn't have its movie? After all, there's still one option: rebooting. Tomb Raider, Mortal Kombat, Silent Hill and other games I don't know are being rebooted, totally rewritten from zero. After Metroid 5, they could do it.

Well, next year I'm gonna buy a Wii U. I only played Prime series (not completely) and Other M by a friend's Wii, but if Wii U will be able to play Wii games, I'll buy it to play Prime series, Other M and Metroid 5. I just can't wait for the first news of Metroid 5. I don't want another Prime, Other M's gameplay is a lot cooler. I just would like Metroid 5 to have more 2D platform places, that's all.
For the next game, Metroid 5, they don't have to make so many scenes, Other M has 2 hours, Metroid 5 could have just 1 or a little more. I hope Anthony and the computer Adam appear, but ONLY in the scenes. Samus should explore the mazes ALL by herself. And I have absolutely NOTHING against Samus' emotions in Other M, it's stupid to criticize that, but I'd like her to speak less in Metroid 5 and, once the plot won't involve her past, she could be a little colder. And the whole game, darker.
2) There were no mazes, the exploration was simple. We only look for missiles and energy charges, but the way is clear and Adam telling her where to go only makes the way more straight;
3) When she walks slowly and the screen zooms on her back, I don't think that part necessary. And when she comes in the camera's direction, we can't see the enemies before they get too close. Rolling 360º would be better, maybe.
They should note this for the next game, Metroid 5.
I would NEVER call this a bad game, it's really fun, but I'm not surprised it UNFORTUNATELY didn't sell as much as they expected.
1) The excuse to Samus start with no powers was Adam's concern about the fragility of the ambient. Convincent, but if Samus had a powerful electrical shock that deactivated her suits powers it would be more simple and better, then she would have to look for recharges through the station to reactivate her powers;
About a METROID MOVIE... WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY WAITING FOR? Far Cry still didn't release its 3rd game but already has a movie. Many other games became movies before their 5th anniversary. What about Metroid? METROID 1 IS FROM 1986, a few months older than me! Why the hell they still didn't turn it into a movie? That would totally ROCK!!!!!!!
I hope in Metroid 5 (chronologically after Metroid 4 Fusion), they bring Samus' original suit back somehow and show metroids more, not only in the end of the game. Fusion Suit makes her look like a man and its gloves look like Batman's. Nah! I want Samus' classic suit back. And ALL metroid evolutions to appear, to me the metroid evolutions are the coolest thing in the whole series but they appear to fight only in Metroid 2, cool but tragically made for Gamecrap... I mean GameBoy without colors.
Here's a preview of us at Nintendo getting together and RAPING Samus Aran, destroying the series forever, with the most plot hole filled horribley written story, lazy and linear gameplay, and some of the worst voice acting you've ever heard. I hope you enjoy, and knowing that fanboys will eat this shit up, we know you'll love it.
About friendly characters, the computer Adam, Anthony and the zebezians that saved Samus in Metroid 4 Fusion would be nice. But especially Anthony and the computer Adam. I wonder how will be the trailers of Metroid 5. Will they make a video like "Metroid and Me" again? This time, showing facts from Other M and Fusion? That would be nice. I just hope, really hope Samus gets her classic suit back (she looks like a man in the Fusion Suit) and the game be a little darker.
Another idea I had in mind is if the SA-X possessed Samus sometimes. With metroid DNA in her blood, she's immune to the X parasites, but SA-X was far too strong to be absorbed with ease. That's another tip. Whatever be Nintendo's idea for Metroid 5, I hope they make it AWESOME!
Metroid is the reason I wanna buy a Wii U. Mario and Donkey Kong are cool too and I'm definetely gonna buy them. But Metroid is the best! Pitty Nintendo doesn't sell Tomb Raider franchise anymore, the rebooted Tomb Raider is gonna be fantastic, then I'll have to buy an X-Box 360 to play it.
Plots like both I just suggested would fit well in the cutscenes. But in the gameplay, there should be labyrints for Samus to explore. A planet would be cooler. Enough of labs, Other M and Fusion were 100% space labs. If there be a lab only at the begin, like in Super, okay, but I believe most players now wish a planet as main scenery.
Whatever they do in Metroid 5 I just wanna see Samus' classic suit back. About the plot, the X parasites proved to be more dangerous than the metroids. In this case, if the X survived the planet blast, the metroids could be domesticated and used by humans to kill X parasites that invade an important human planet. If the X died and the metroids from secret labs still be enemies, no problemo, just show ALL evolutions. Besides, let's not forget Samus pissed the Federation off and they'll chase her.

I didn't like Prime because of the gameplay. Why did they make it look like a shooter?
I was so disappointed. But this game gave me my Metroid Back and I hope the next game will look like this one.

The Prime series was simply amazing, and I consider that Samus the true one. They tried to make her more relatable, and ended up making her just plain unlikeable.

Team Ninja wanted to characterize Samus, emphasizing on her being a woman soldier. However, what they actually turned Samus into was a subservient, whining little girl subservient to her male boss. Male audiences will find her unrelatable. Female audiences will find this game offensive.

Everytime they have something great, they ruin it.... I loved metroid prime and echoes... the atmosphere was amazing, that lone wanderer feel of it was magnificent... and the fact that I had to figure out what to do next instead of having some random npc telling me what to do, made that feel look authentic... that's what set those games apart from most other, now though, they've gone to the cheap thrills section. the sort of game i play just out of curiosity.... pity...

@MrMetroid1998 of course she is someone you controlled and that in a way is what made her good. she (and master chief from halo) was such a good character because she wore aromour and said nothing so you could create your own hero behind the mask, this is why it was such a shock when she turned out to be a women-a perfect plot twist in the first games. Some of the cut scenes in this game are actually good but most of them fall flat and are just plain laughable or cringeable.

I don't understand why so many people said this game stopped Samus from being a badass. If you actually looked at the GAMEPLAY instead of cutscenes, you would see her jumping around, judoing enemies down and then blasting their faces off, jumping INSIDE her unconscious enemies' BODY and blowing it up, ETC. The combat was EPIC.

wow. I want this. It's on my christmas list. Metroid is awesome. Metroid 5 is so unpredictable! I wonder how the plot will be... Would the X parasite have survived somehow? In this case, would domesticated metroids be used on the side of humans, this time? Would SA-X, which was absorbed by Samus, cause her double personality or other sort of trouble? Or would mutated metroids (imune to cold) from all evolution stages escape from a lab in a human planet? Anything can happen in the next game. I can't wait to play it in my dreamed Wii U.

@Bruno1986BR Metroid 5? Metroid Prime is the 5th Metroid game. If you consider Prime to be its own subseries and disregard Zero Mission because it is a remake, Other M is the 5th one.
If you disregard Other M because of how terrible and "un-Metroid-like" it is, then yes, the next Metroid game would be Metroid 5 =D

@Jonassoe Prime series is chronologically between Metroid 1 and 2. And Other M is between Super (3) and Fusion (4). In Fusion, Samus talks about Adam, that he died for her once, then she finds out that the computer that guides her the whole game is Adam's copied mind (probably from his helmet). But in Other M he is still alive. Then Other M can't be a 5. The next game is confirmed by Nintendo to be after Fusion (4), then will be the 5.

Tomb Raider is being rebooted, then the next game (simply called Tomb Raider) will be the 1st of a new series, paralel from the classic, rewritting Lara Croft's story. To make clear that it wasn't a Tomb Raider 9 neither a Zero, the developers showed Lara much younger, a picture of her just graduated and using an I-pod. If it was 9, she would look older (like did in 8). If it was Zero, at begin of the 1990s there weren't I-pods. These discrite details help making clear that it's a reboot.

There's too much confusion from the new players of Metroid series. They're mad that Other M wasn't 100% 1st person like Prime series because they don't know that Prime series was a SPIN-OFF chronologically between Metroid 1 and 2.
Just like Samus' narration before Other M, in Metroid 5 she should mention that Prime was between 1 and 2, make clear that Dark Samus was a mutated metroid, mention facts from Other M and Fusion, and that SA-X is originally an X-parasite.

I'm hoping in the next Metroid, they make the gameplay like Other M, but with a few changes. They should have it so you have to aim at the screen to fire where you want instead of auto targeting. It would be more challenging. They should also make it much, much longer. Keep the cinematics, but make them shorter, and have Samus talk less. They should either scrap fist person mode, or let you atually move in that mode.

I just hope Metroid 5 be made for Nintendo Wii U, not for 3DS, because portable consoles always have lower technology than non-portable. I just HATE Nintendo for having made Metroid 2 (personally my favorite) and 4 (Fusion) for GameBoy, they could have been a lot cooler if Nintendo made them for SNES and GameCube. And they are from the original series, which is much more important than Prime series, which was just a spin-off that new fans like but don't even know the classic series exists.

I really don't get why everyone complains about this game so much. I really enjoyed the story, the gameplay, the graphics, and the music. In fact, the story was my favorite thing about the game. I'll be honest Prime 1 and 2 where the best games to be released on the gamecube. But Prime 3 was no where near as good. The way I see it is this game has Prime 3 beaten easy. By then again why compare? This isn't Prime. Its a different style entirely. Enjoy it for what it is.

I hope Metroid 5 comes with same graphic quality, but the VERY most of the gameplay in 2D platform, Metroid's classic gameplay. In second place there should be many parts in 1st person. I also loved Samus being able to grab and fight the enemies. And just a few parts should be in 3D. That's my opinion about gameplay.
I also hope we can fight ALL bosses, find powers (not only energy and missiles) and explore 100% helpless, with out Adam's mind computer to help. But I wanna see Adam and Anthony.

She left the military because they wouldn't let her persue the space pirates and restricted her to "light" duty. She wanted to help, to prevent what happened to her as a child, Adam supported her decision and they remained close friends. She got over her fear of Ridley after theeir first fight where she literally screams over his corpse and lets go of her past

They would sell the rights to a movie studio or someone who would then probably get writers and directors and whatnot. @joevox316 Yes, when a game company sells the rights of a game to a studio, it's the studio who decides how the movie will be. If I was Nintendo, I would sell only after according that the writter and director play (or watch) the whole game to make the movie as alike the game as possible. In the case of Metroid, I'd make a movie based on Metroid 1 (not Zero Mission, which was based on that childish manga and had that boring extension after Mother Brain), but adding Adam and Anthony to the cast.

But it's acceptable when they change only details, sometimes. Like Hitman, the movie was great. In the game, the hitmen are clones. In the movie, they were homeless children, discarded by society, taken to be trained to kill. That's simpler and better.

While i'm never against innovation , i feel that games with a perfect premise should not be experimented to that extent were the mechanics feels like an entire different game,
OTHER M had mediocre gameplay as the game felt like you always were rushing throu and with one button kill sequence action (i get bored of it rather fast) the game got simplified to that extent were you never had to put any real effort in progressing.
Metroid shouldn't be fast paced & linear. neither in 3D

Some people said Metroid 5 will be the last. I don't know if that's true, if that is, well, the plot was about to have an end, but I wouldn't like Metroid to end before making a movie. Many games became movies before their 5th anniversaries, why Metroid, older than me, still doesn't have its movie? After all, there's still one option: rebooting. Tomb Raider, Mortal Kombat, Silent Hill and other games I don't know are being rebooted, totally rewritten from zero. After Metroid 5, they could do it.

@Bruno1986BR Yea but...Metroid for the NES was Metroid 1, and the Prime games were all in between Metroid 2. Super Metroid was the last Metroid game to officially be called by a number (Metroid 3). That's what I'm sayin

@zzyzx0788 Well, when Super Metroid starts, it says "1994... NIntendo... presents... Metroid 3... SUPER METROID". And Fusion says "Nintendo... presents... Metroid 4... Metroid Fusion". Than the 5 is gonna be the one after Fusion. ;D

Well, next year I'm gonna buy a Wii U. I only played Prime series (not completely) and Other M by a friend's Wii, but if Wii U will be able to play Wii games, I'll buy it to play Prime series, Other M and Metroid 5. I just can't wait for the first news of Metroid 5. I don't want another Prime, Other M's gameplay is a lot cooler. I just would like Metroid 5 to have more 2D platform places, that's all.

For the next game, Metroid 5, they don't have to make so many scenes, Other M has 2 hours, Metroid 5 could have just 1 or a little more. I hope Anthony and the computer Adam appear, but ONLY in the scenes. Samus should explore the mazes ALL by herself. And I have absolutely NOTHING against Samus' emotions in Other M, it's stupid to criticize that, but I'd like her to speak less in Metroid 5 and, once the plot won't involve her past, she could be a little colder. And the whole game, darker.

2) There were no mazes, the exploration was simple. We only look for missiles and energy charges, but the way is clear and Adam telling her where to go only makes the way more straight;
3) When she walks slowly and the screen zooms on her back, I don't think that part necessary. And when she comes in the camera's direction, we can't see the enemies before they get too close. Rolling 360º would be better, maybe.
They should note this for the next game, Metroid 5.

I would NEVER call this a bad game, it's really fun, but I'm not surprised it UNFORTUNATELY didn't sell as much as they expected.
1) The excuse to Samus start with no powers was Adam's concern about the fragility of the ambient. Convincent, but if Samus had a powerful electrical shock that deactivated her suits powers it would be more simple and better, then she would have to look for recharges through the station to reactivate her powers;

About a METROID MOVIE... WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY WAITING FOR? Far Cry still didn't release its 3rd game but already has a movie. Many other games became movies before their 5th anniversary. What about Metroid? METROID 1 IS FROM 1986, a few months older than me! Why the hell they still didn't turn it into a movie? That would totally ROCK!!!!!!!

I hope in Metroid 5 (chronologically after Metroid 4 Fusion), they bring Samus' original suit back somehow and show metroids more, not only in the end of the game. Fusion Suit makes her look like a man and its gloves look like Batman's. Nah! I want Samus' classic suit back. And ALL metroid evolutions to appear, to me the metroid evolutions are the coolest thing in the whole series but they appear to fight only in Metroid 2, cool but tragically made for Gamecrap... I mean GameBoy without colors.

Because this game takes place after Super Metroid, but with the atmosphere of Metroid Prime, I actually like to call this game Super Metroid Prime.

About friendly characters, the computer Adam, Anthony and the zebezians that saved Samus in Metroid 4 Fusion would be nice. But especially Anthony and the computer Adam. I wonder how will be the trailers of Metroid 5. Will they make a video like "Metroid and Me" again? This time, showing facts from Other M and Fusion? That would be nice. I just hope, really hope Samus gets her classic suit back (she looks like a man in the Fusion Suit) and the game be a little darker.

Another idea I had in mind is if the SA-X possessed Samus sometimes. With metroid DNA in her blood, she's immune to the X parasites, but SA-X was far too strong to be absorbed with ease. That's another tip. Whatever be Nintendo's idea for Metroid 5, I hope they make it AWESOME!

Metroid is the reason I wanna buy a Wii U. Mario and Donkey Kong are cool too and I'm definetely gonna buy them. But Metroid is the best! Pitty Nintendo doesn't sell Tomb Raider franchise anymore, the rebooted Tomb Raider is gonna be fantastic, then I'll have to buy an X-Box 360 to play it.

Plots like both I just suggested would fit well in the cutscenes. But in the gameplay, there should be labyrints for Samus to explore. A planet would be cooler. Enough of labs, Other M and Fusion were 100% space labs. If there be a lab only at the begin, like in Super, okay, but I believe most players now wish a planet as main scenery.

Whatever they do in Metroid 5 I just wanna see Samus' classic suit back. About the plot, the X parasites proved to be more dangerous than the metroids. In this case, if the X survived the planet blast, the metroids could be domesticated and used by humans to kill X parasites that invade an important human planet. If the X died and the metroids from secret labs still be enemies, no problemo, just show ALL evolutions. Besides, let's not forget Samus pissed the Federation off and they'll chase her.
