This is a Arab financed investment which they fail to mention. There is nothing London or British about it. It reminds me of the Cordoba Project in New York. Cordoba, spain, is where the Muslims built a massive mosque over a church as a symbol of dominace on european soil. Now there is one going up over the heart of city, to dominate our skyline This beauty will become an eyesore for many.
@TheHEADonWHEELS I hate American's to, thats why i get angry when people say that anyhere in the US is better than the UK. Yes this country has faults but i personally think our history, music, culture, and inventions are the best in the world.
I am from liverpool so am quite close to south port.
@TheHEADonWHEELS Well to be honest i have been on your channel and the only video you have is of the top 5 cities, so this is obviously a subject that you focus on and prehaps are also bias when it comes to.
I also do not think you are from the UK, i think you are an American that goes around bashing London and saying that you are from here to give some credibility to your insult's...I do not count this as an "argument" as i was not upset throughout
@TheHEADonWHEELS Oh sorry i was under tha assumption that jokes where meant to be funny, oh well my bad. London has thousands of years of history, it has played a bigger part in the world than NY and today is still one of the financial capitals of the world
@TheHEADonWHEELS Well the fact that you go to personal legths when you do not know me says alot about your intelligence. I have a girl friend and have had one for 3 years, The reason those buildings are more well known is the fact that America makes more films and use's new york in most of them lol
The fact you have to go on a video of a city just to say it's bad proves that you have NO life and are actually secretly aware that it is great
@TheHEADonWHEELS haha are you crazy, New york's buildings are new and characterless. London has buildings that are about 400 years old and older. You obviously do not study architecture
@TheHEADonWHEELS Well then you are an idiot, London has been around for nearly 2000 years. The buildings have been there for hundreds of years and are fantastic in architecture, New york has new buildings that have no character and are just big and nothing else. I have been to New york, i went about 2 years ago with college and i hated it, rude people and it was freezing cold.
what is the Pinnacle going to be used for exactly?is it pretty much just office space on mass like the WTCs in NYC and other such buildings?if so is there any specific purpose of the space?
NYC had the edge in terms of cultural vibrancy and brilliance in the post-9/11 era which invoked a sense of community within fellow New Yorkers. The 2008 financial collapse put an end to that decisively.
London, in contrast, has begun recovering from a decade of cultural regression under a malignantly neosocialist government, and is now the place to be. As of late 2010 it has regained the technological vibrancy and edge that was present in the 90s, before it was cut short by left-wing politics.
@JCrownwell Well all of these tall buildings are a result of the previous government which approved them. They didn't all just decide that they should be built overnight, some take years of planning
I wasn't refering to building projects - that's implicit in the very fact that they commenced construction on these projects during the comedy show that was the last Labour government. I was refering to more diffuse ideas like the cultural vibe that comes and goes as a society develops and/or regresses.
i live east of london and can see in no order - wembley stad, gerkhin, dome, wheel, canary, whu, + loads more + trying to work out if i can see this too.
i thought the docklands where canary wharf was going to be the 'skyscraper city' and the new financial heart. I thought they didn't want to build too tall in the city because they wanted st pauls cathedral to still dominate the skyline. Add very nice tower though.
@762SLR762 LOL NO LOS ANGELES IS BEST MATE IM BORN AND BRED IN LONDON IM 17 AND ITS A SHITHOLE MATE COMPARED TO LOS ANGLES THEY GOT WAY BETTER WOMEN THAN US AND BETTER BUILDINGS
Should be superficially complete for the Olympics. I love how this cluster is going to look, though I'm excited by the Shard most of all (it WILL be taller than this building contrary to the video). The millennium wheel and the gherkin are good but not good enough for this city. With the Shard comes a landmark more impressive than the Eiffel tower.
@Backin1985 theres abit of jealous i can see there. no reason to pull london down because its got outstanding archietecture unlike New York with is un planned block after block concrete shit.

London: Probably one of the WORST cities in the world, too expensive (you'll be taxed to the hilt even if you're 6 feet under) London is boring, it used to be good until about 2002, since then its lost it. Right now it all about New York, Miami, Madrid, Berlin, Amsterdam - in fact anywhere else BUT London.
@Backin1985 "Amsterdam, Madrid. London is a financial CAPITAL unlike any of the places you listed other than new york witch in my opinion is a character-less bunch of stupid buildings
Nice building, I think I've walked past this construction site, with massive blue/white cranes. Whats that wedge shaped building, and the real wide building with the antenna on top, in that architects model? Never seen those before. Looks pretty awesome in future!
Yea, in a city built on slave labour....London is the second richest city in the world. And dont come back saying shit about england cos im not even from there. Just stating a fact.
No, go look at rankings on the internet, New York is around 8th and 9th. Citys like Paris, London and Beijing are the richest unless you are on about the highest income and wealthiest people per city, therefore Luxomburg, Kopenhargen and New York would be.
Why? London, Paris, Rome etc... are amazing citys because of the history and arcitecture etc... Would you rather all the citys look like Beijing and Tokyo!?!?!
it can't hurt. Skyscrapers give bragging rights and it attracts big business, something which London has done for hundreds of years, and these towers which I think look magnificent are a symbol of that.
There's a difference between what's in London in terms of towers than what's in New York.
I'm proud to live in the same country as those towers. They do a lot for your national pride if nothing else. Unless you're classicalist, but those buildings are not the future.
The "Pinnacle"is gorgeous and reminds me of the "Tour First"(or "CB31") currently under construction in Paris La Défense(delivery in June 2010,it's shorter though, with 228m,it's a makeover from an existing building)but its spiral shape is similar.
But as they said in the video, it's not record breakers they won't its space. London is bigger than NY and most other cities in Europe. We have run out of room, so we need to build up. An as long as it look good, who cares.

It really angers me that developers can just impose these designs on the places we live, what ever happened to democracy. But yea up rather than out, save the countryside we have left

The Pinnacle will be the heart, the center of the new skyscraper cluster.
The Shard will be the crown, standing alone as a superb landmark building.
I love both, also the Gherkin and City Hall.
London is great because us Brits can mix historic buildings with ultra-modern buildings.
