  • The City of London. Nice to look at, not sure I would want to work there.

  • How old is this? The Heron Tower is now finished next to Tower 42 and The Shard will be topped out at 309 metres in May 2012

  • Looks so UGLY! London is not a city for tall sky scrapers! especially ones that look like triangles...

  • This is a Arab financed investment which they fail to mention. There is nothing London or British about it. It reminds me of the Cordoba Project in New York. Cordoba, spain, is where the Muslims built a massive mosque over a church as a symbol of dominace on european soil. Now there is one going up over the heart of city, to dominate our skyline This beauty will become an eyesore for many.

  • Still , the best city in the World and beyond :)

  • @TheHEADonWHEELS LOL i agree there towers don't have good arcutectre ( can't spell it) but the view from the new tallest would be cool

  • @TheHEADonWHEELS I hate American's to, thats why i get angry when people say that anyhere in the US is better than the UK. Yes this country has faults but i personally think our history, music, culture, and inventions are the best in the world.

I am from liverpool so am quite close to south port.

  • @TheHEADonWHEELS Well to be honest i have been on your channel and the only video you have is of the top 5 cities, so this is obviously a subject that you focus on and prehaps are also bias when it comes to.

I also do not think you are from the UK, i think you are an American that goes around bashing London and saying that you are from here to give some credibility to your insult's...I do not count this as an "argument" as i was not upset throughout

  • @TheHEADonWHEELS Oh sorry i was under tha assumption that jokes where meant to be funny, oh well my bad. London has thousands of years of history, it has played a bigger part in the world than NY and today is still one of the financial capitals of the world

  • @TheHEADonWHEELS Well the fact that you go to personal legths when you do not know me says alot about your intelligence. I have a girl friend and have had one for 3 years, The reason those buildings are more well known is the fact that America makes more films and use's new york in most of them lol

The fact you have to go on a video of a city just to say it's bad proves that you have NO life and are actually secretly aware that it is great

  • @TheHEADonWHEELS haha are you crazy, New york's buildings are new and characterless. London has buildings that are about 400 years old and older. You obviously do not study architecture

  • @TheHEADonWHEELS Well then you are an idiot, London has been around for nearly 2000 years. The buildings have been there for hundreds of years and are fantastic in architecture, New york has new buildings that have no character and are just big and nothing else. I have been to New york, i went about 2 years ago with college and i hated it, rude people and it was freezing cold.

  • what is the Pinnacle going to be used for exactly?is it pretty much just office space on mass like the WTCs in NYC and other such buildings?if so is there any specific purpose of the space?

  • NYC had the edge in terms of cultural vibrancy and brilliance in the post-9/11 era which invoked a sense of community within fellow New Yorkers. The 2008 financial collapse put an end to that decisively.

London, in contrast, has begun recovering from a decade of cultural regression under a malignantly neosocialist government, and is now the place to be. As of late 2010 it has regained the technological vibrancy and edge that was present in the 90s, before it was cut short by left-wing politics.

  • @JCrownwell Well all of these tall buildings are a result of the previous government which approved them. They didn't all just decide that they should be built overnight, some take years of planning

  • @nasansia

I wasn't refering to building projects - that's implicit in the very fact that they commenced construction on these projects during the comedy show that was the last Labour government. I was refering to more diffuse ideas like the cultural vibe that comes and goes as a society develops and/or regresses.

  • 1:49 he thinks his on top of the world looking at london from underneath hahaha. all analysing the building like a satan

  • Does anyone know whether it will be possible to see this a slight view of this building from Seven Sisters / Tottenham, North London? Thanks

  • what are the lat/long co-ordinates pls.

i live east of london and can see in no order - wembley stad, gerkhin, dome, wheel, canary, whu, + loads more + trying to work out if i can see this too.

    thanks

  • i thought the docklands where canary wharf was going to be the 'skyscraper city' and the new financial heart. I thought they didn't want to build too tall in the city because they wanted st pauls cathedral to still dominate the skyline. Add very nice tower though.

  • The Pinnacle will be the heart, the center of the new skyscraper cluster.

The Shard will be the crown, standing alone as a superb landmark building.

I love both, also the Gherkin and City Hall.

London is great because us Brits can mix historic buildings with ultra-modern buildings.

  • "Expecting excellence".. ugh, what an arrogant opening line. Shame because the rest makes London look good.

  • why does he keep on callingit "DEEFA"?

  • @keeperofthecheese

It was called the DIFA Tower (after its investors), as well as the Bishopsgate Tower. It's now called the Pinnacle :-)

  • @762SLR762 LOL NO LOS ANGELES IS BEST MATE IM BORN AND BRED IN LONDON IM 17 AND ITS A SHITHOLE MATE COMPARED TO LOS ANGLES THEY GOT WAY BETTER WOMEN THAN US AND BETTER BUILDINGS

  • An impressive looking building.

  • Should be superficially complete for the Olympics. I love how this cluster is going to look, though I'm excited by the Shard most of all (it WILL be taller than this building contrary to the video). The millennium wheel and the gherkin are good but not good enough for this city. With the Shard comes a landmark more impressive than the Eiffel tower.

  • @762SLR762 You suck dik? Coz it damm blasted well look like it, gay ass motherfukka

  • @762SLR762 yeah like your mum cock sucker - go fuck yourself

  • @762SLR762 Dumb loser - go fuck yourself bitch ass motherfucker Londons shit!!!!!

  • @Backin1985 theres abit of jealous i can see there. no reason to pull london down because its got outstanding archietecture unlike New York with is un planned block after block concrete shit.

  • @Backin1985 im italian and 2 months ago I went in London

shit.. how can u say that london sucks! it's 1 of the best city i've ever seen coz it can make "friends" old monuments like big ben or tower bridge with modern structures like canary whorf or the O2 arena!!!!

Rome compared to london is a little shit XD

  • @762SLR762 its a shit hole what ever you say. Can't park here congestion charge, Cctv - what shit you chattin Go fuck your mums ass - cunt

  • Have you seen the film towering inferno?

  • Had the maker of this video taken a bet to include as many London cliches into 30 seconds as possible?

  • If you think London is "boring", then you need to see a doctor.

  • @skyscrapercityvideos Wrongt poooookm momom mawmaw where are youuuu1 HELP ME@

  • @Backin1985 "Amsterdam, Madrid. London is a financial CAPITAL unlike any of the places you listed other than new york witch in my opinion is a character-less bunch of stupid buildings

  • Nice building, I think I've walked past this construction site, with massive blue/white cranes. Whats that wedge shaped building, and the real wide building with the antenna on top, in that architects model? Never seen those before. Looks pretty awesome in future!

  • Hmm they say to be completed by 2012. No chance lol

  • It's about quality not size. It's only cities which lack confidence that feel the need to build the tallest.

  • Yea, in a city built on slave labour....London is the second richest city in the world. And dont come back saying shit about england cos im not even from there. Just stating a fact.

  • London is the the richest i think

  • Nah, New York. Plus the likes of shanghia and tokyo are likely to surpass both london and new york in the future.

  • No, go look at rankings on the internet, New York is around 8th and 9th. Citys like Paris, London and Beijing are the richest unless you are on about the highest income and wealthiest people per city, therefore Luxomburg, Kopenhargen and New York would be.

  • And dont forget Dublin in 6th, lol XD

  • indeed!

  • The same applies 2 America....idiot

  • it will top out middle to end of 2012

  • finally european city's are embracing skyscrapers.

beacons of the modern age, wich europe must have its place in...

  • Why? London, Paris, Rome etc... are amazing citys because of the history and arcitecture etc... Would you rather all the citys look like Beijing and Tokyo!?!?!

  • it can't hurt. Skyscrapers give bragging rights and it attracts big business, something which London has done for hundreds of years, and these towers which I think look magnificent are a symbol of that.

There's a difference between what's in London in terms of towers than what's in New York.

I'm proud to live in the same country as those towers. They do a lot for your national pride if nothing else. Unless you're classicalist, but those buildings are not the future.

  • its about time london got some taller buildings

  • @phillyM94 I do like skyscrapers, but the heritage and history of London should not be forgotten.

  • The "Pinnacle"is gorgeous and reminds me of the "Tour First"(or "CB31") currently under construction in Paris La Défense(delivery in June 2010,it's shorter though, with 228m,it's a makeover from an existing building)but its spiral shape is similar.

  • The Pinnacle is the the biggets in the "City of London" the shard is going to biggest in London but not the city.

  • I'm doing work experience with Kohn Pederson Fox in 3 weeks :D Its gona be immense. I'm only 16 as well, so cool.

  • :O WELL JEALOUS.

  • u little bastard lol, na gud 4 u mate.

  • i thought the shard was going to be the tallest??

  • Yes, it is.

  • @skyscrapercityvideos The shard will be 72 floors The pinnacle a mere 60 floors.

  • @Tufz95 Yeah. The Shard will be "Supertall" at a height of just over 300m. The Bishopsgate tower is only 288m, making it the second tallest

  • LONDON is the best city on EARTH

  • @ajaaronjoe well of course.... three cheers for london... woot woot woot.... did i go over the top :L

  • wowowowowow

  • i hope it will be there and if it's there i will go and visit

  • when will this be built ?

  • Core and steelwork should begin rising in January 2010. The project will be complete by 2013.

  • @skyscrapercityvideos It's on hold isn't it?

  • But as they said in the video, it's not record breakers they won't its space. London is bigger than NY and most other cities in Europe. We have run out of room, so we need to build up. An as long as it look good, who cares.

Atleast we are not a concrete jungle like NY or Tokyo

  • We will become a bland city of 'futuristic' glass and steel building if this is all we build for the next 10 years. I think London is a really good looking understated city, i think this development the 'shard' and a few other will change that. And with skyscrapers you can't look away they are inescapable. It really angers me that developers can just impose these designs on the places we live, what ever happened to democracy. But yea up rather than out, save the countryside we have left

  • cities that are just skyscraper after skyscraper lack identity in my opinion. You need to have somthing that looks entierly unique, somthing that can be identified straigt away. If you have a skyline loaded with tall buildings it could be anywhere...

  • This Is Spectacular! Im Really Surprised Too See London, Making New Skyscrapers, This extremely looks beautiful! Ofcourse LNDN is A Financial Centre,So Therefore It Needs Many Bulidings! BANGGG - TH3 N3W C3NTR3 OF TH3 CITY!

  • this building reminds me of the new trump tower in chicago. Chicago was the birthplace of the skyscraper and still makes the best in my opinion.

  • looks great!! just hope the depression doesn't balls up the construction!!

  • It won't, this is going ahead. Its already well underway.

  • great thanks for reassuring me lol! on both the pinnacle and the shard . . . i'll take your word for it!

  • this is nothing to dubai chicago or shanghi

considoring 20th century skyscrapers, this is tiny!

  • This is wayyyy more beautiful than the dreadful burj, which is little more than some arabs dick measuring contest mate.

  • and chicago?

  • Why would London want to be like Chicago? I'm not anti-scraper at all and London would have the perfect mix of historic old buildings and quality new ones when the proposed new buildings are finished but theres no way on earth i'd trade St Pauls for a 1000ft scraper.

  • But London does it with style. Its the mixture of old and new that puts London in a league of its own. I agree with madbob, Dubai and Shanghai are dick measuring contests.

  • London doesn't need to build the tallest skyscrapers, cities that feel the need to build the tallest lack confidence, London doesn't lack confidence.

  • what are you writing antonjon... so people who want to do something remarkable, something new, unachieved before - in your opinion are people lacking confidence? Right so probably followers are those how have confidence...

One is true, London does not lack confidence

  • Yes, Indeed. Most Cities have one or maybe 2 really famous landmarks, London seems to have about 7. Big Ben, London Eye, Buckingham Palace, Oxford Street, Harrods, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, Houses of Parliament, all of these are worldwide famous landmarks.

  • This is Under Construction now, and will not be put on hold, regardless of the financial and economic situation.

  • one day europe will have better and bigger skyscrapers than the u.s... europe is becoming the new world power again,...

  • we need more ov em, put london on the map propa!

  • London is firmly on the map. It is generally regarded as the world's number 1 city. It most certainly is in the world's top 3.

  • Very interesting video! Let's get that baby built!
