@PinelochTundra Yea, it took me a while to get that sorted out, but I did after a while, and made up a new bracket for it that's worked out quite well now, after driving it for over a year. I did order a stock setup just to see what it looked like, and then wound up going with a home fabricated alternator system..
But everyone needs to remember the generator is for 6 volts not 12 the alternator is for 12 and I've seen atleast 10 rods with the alternator mounted on the frame just leave a little more slack in the belt
If you had the stock exhaust manifolds, do you think the bracket would work? Of course the headers are a not to be compromised , but may explain it not fitting. Mounted to the frame...How about a spring loaded tensioner? To keep the belt tight during torque and vibration stress? I really enjoy the videos , I am a tinker guy too , but I dont have the means to tinker at the level you are tinkering. Just wait till I get my garage built!
I spent two years building the garage before I could start this project, so I know your pain. I'm now thinking I can mount the alternator to the engine, right about where the motor mount is, and make it work. That's what I'll be working on next, after I finish messing with the radiator..
is it possible to mount the origional generator down below where u held the chevy one? I agree with 63 impala guy about the vibration causing you trouble with the belt vs. torque.. even with no real space between, I would think that mounted to the engine would be more secure for the possibility of vibration. ?
I can see now what you mean about your engine mounts.. pretty stiff looks like. I was wondering, could you mount that generator bracket where you held it there...just below the rocker arm cover.. then flip that little tightening bracket over and have it come down under the generator?? you'd probably have to lengthen it some but it might work.. just a thought.
question.. if you mount the alternator to the frame.. what happens when the engine torque's? will it rock away from the alternator and break the belt.. or rock towards the alternator and loosen the belt? you'll figure it out! looks good man..im excited for ya that you got your pulley and all!
well I'm thinking that's exactly what it would do... On the other hand, I don't have much rubber between the engine and the frame, unlike a normal engine mount, and when I race the motor, the whole frame tips. It might work. Any other solution I can think of, so far, sure does involve a lot of fabrication..
i think the idea of the alternator is very good, cause then, for me, the engine would look much better without something hiding it, so we can really see the "V" of the V8, with just the fan (that looks awesome btw) in front of it. Thats my opinion
the generator bracket mounts onto the stock exhaust manifold thats why you can mount it directly, because your custom headers.

i have a 55 caddy and the generator is by the valve cover. it does mounts to the manifold,i dont know if its the same like a 53

Yep, it does. Know anybody who needs a bracket?

Yep. I've got much to consider here, no doubt..

Just sent a link to a picture that sort of shows where the generator goes. Looks like it's way up over the valve cover.

btw.. fabricating isnt a bad thing.. just not good when its 10 below!! hehe hang in there. I've seen your work.. you'll figure it out! :)

Yep, I'm leaning in that direction too..
