I loved Star Ocean the second story. This game made me love the series even more. I'm not a fan of the Last hope but at least they gave me two awesome games to love.
Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat game, I was about to jizz my pants when I saw that there was a director's cut only released in Japan, but hell, we got the same thing. Only thing I don't like is how much you can straight fuck yourself if you don't use alchemy correctly (i.e putting a lot of Atk+500 on a final weapon)
i cant quite undesrtand how people are comparing final fantasy to this, tri ace has made a huge amount of amazing RPG's, series of those RPG's that are all amazing, like this, star ocean, valkyrie profile, xenosaga etc, whereas final fantasy has. . .final fantasy D:
@starltrubymoon Because all tri-Ace games always have one HUGE flaw preventing it from being good. Also tri-Ace didn't have anything to do with the Xenosaga games. And no shit FF has only FF because you stated all the game franchises from a company and FF is just one franchise. It's okay, you're almost through the 6th grade, you'll get smarter sooner or later.

Argh, I really regret taking this in to my local EB games =/ at the time, I was switching up to the 350 star ocean (last hope), little did I know at the time it was a horrible switch (mostly) sigh

Favorite part about SO3... can't really choose one as everything was amazing about it. Its atmosphere, music and story really did affect me though. Motoi Sakuraba is a godly composer. The twist nearly ruined it for me, but when I thought about it, it really did convey an important message so then I suddenly loved it.
@NeoTStyle yeah FF7 is my favorite game. I just recently finished playing 8 and it had a major impact on me. Mostly because of the hidden maturity level in that game is so high. However I do believe 7 is a bit more mature. Overall 8 was amazing. Yeah the same with me, the whole twist just really make me say "this is stupid and cliche" but then I really thought about all the main points in this game and it isn't too cliche after all. Motoi Sakuraba is a great composer. Other games youlike?
Tales of Symphonia is another game dad affect me as well. The game also has a mature story with lovable, interesting characters. Almost feel bad about completing it really.

One day I was playing on a file I had just started on this game and I was saving when I accidentally selected to overwright it on my file that I had everything on (I had about 150 hours on it) and I was like OH SHOOT! So I instantly turned the ps2 off and it said my data was corrupted. I lost both files
Yeah I've been playing video games since I'm 3, played games ranging from Arkanoid to Mario to Zelda to Tekken to Metal Gear Solid to Resident Evil to Timesplitters to Doom to Demon's Souls to Final Fantasy to Star Ocean.
Cool opinion bro. Well no, these are all excellent games but if I had to choose the one I had the best experience with it'd have to have been Star Ocean 3.
Now I might give the title of best game ever to Kingdom Hearts 1 but I'm not quite sure if it beats SO3.
Let's just say I have more than one contender for that title, including MGS, FF, SO, Symphonia, KH and lotsa more games.
Or any of the other (classic) games (I played with my bros, like Tekken, Timesplitters, kinda Resident Evil - which were kinda more fun because of the multiplaying, but still not mor than MGS3)
Star Ocean The Last Hope was a brilliant game, the thing is that Edge didn't have the spark that Fayt did.
Also the puzzles in it were no where near as good. I actually got stuck in Till the End of Time because of a puzzle, then afterwards got annihilated by a boss, so I never got past disc 1, but I finished The Last Hope except for the second last room.
The Last Hope tried to cater for the main stream rather than Till the End of Time's Hardcore Audience.

Not Really. I've played this one and the first, but they never had the first one in america, had to get an english translator for it. They have different storylines, different people, etc. so it doesnt seem to be much you wouldnt get. And if you do get confused, there is a "Dictionary" in the pause menu that can give you all the definitions of the terms you have crossed by so far.
Did you play it? I wanted to get SO4 but I've heard lots of negative comments about it. To be quite honest the characters in SO4 look boring to me and annoying. I might get it after all once the price drops just because I'm a fan. Star ocean 3 was my first Star Ocean.

You have to unlock the paracelsus table by beating one of the dungeons. The aquatic gardens of surferio. Its sort of complicated because you have to move lots of blocks and the enemies can be quite tough depending on your level. I used the game guide I would've never beaten this game without it.
actually the american version is not the same as dirctors cut version... but it's based off of the directors cut version. Directors cut version has different features... longer game plus it's a lot more of a mentally disturbed--fayt game
One of the best games ive ever played on PS2. I love FF and played every one but i think this game is even better then FF. Long, amazing story and the battles are great. Very close to perfection in my opinion.

Criticism is one thing, but you've never played the game, Star Ocean 3 is one of the most under rated games out there, and its because of people like you that its rarely given a chance.
i rented this game when it first came out. Almost beat it then had to return it. 2 years later i find it for 15 dollars i buy it. Start a new game almost beat it. Stop till present day. Well i beat the game for once 2 days ago. Now i just beat the Trials bonus dougeon. Sphere 211 here i come .
You have to keep playing to get the rest. Nel will leave your party later. Fayt, Cliff, and Maria will be permanent party members. Later on Mirage will finally join your party, and someone named Adray will join as well.You have one more permanent party member, and I can't remember who it will be. Then you choose two from the last four. You get to choose between Nel, Albel, Peppita, and Roger. Oh yeah, Sophia is your 6th permanent party member.
yes it is...trust me, a very good game...with a decent storyline....kinda challenging if you don't know what you're doing in RPG's...i've flipped it twice...still enjoy playing it...
I love this game. I played it like a year ago when i borrowed it from a friend and i just recently bought a used one to have in my collection. I'll get around to playing through it again soon.
i dont remember being able to run around on the beach on the planet u start the game on. I do not remember seeing him use his power like that that many times, i do not remember being able to use his power in battle either. WTH
I absolutely DISPISE what this game did to the existing mythology of Star Ocean, not to mention Enix's other RPG's. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I'm not going to ruin it for you, but suffice to say, it's similar to what a bunch of drugged out teenagers would dicuss in thier mom's basement. At least the game itself (sans storyline in second disk) was good, though.

The scene with the purple haired girl, Farleen, is seen near the beginning of the game when you go rescue her and Tynave. At 1:03 is the Urssa Lava Caves secret dungeon. Nothing was cut out for the english version.
i spent over 150 hours in this game and i leveled them up to 250 and their powers all at maximum . the last girl wich i think was the god of the game in the dragons den was a fucker. i was like a month trying to fight her but then i raised their powers to maximum and i finally beat her. i must say this is the best rpg game ever.
I just got the game a few days ago, AND IT IS SO ADDICTING! I can't leave it alone for very long XD Dammit, Square Enix needs to stop making so many addicting games, it's hurting my social life XDD
You have to go through a bonus dungeon called the Aquatic Gardens of Surferio, in the Surferio Annex of...well, whatever the area is between Peterny and Aquios. XD
Two more things: One, what's the difference between the Director's cut and the original.
Two, is it just me, or does the guy that does Fayt's voice sound like the guy that does Marth's in Fire Emblem? O_O
use balbados,maria and sophia in the inventing slots select original invention until your price on the right says 640 fol. once you get that invent, and thats all. You can get balbados I think in the mosel dunes, you have to have the antique jewelry item with you to recruit him.
the story is kind of lame (in my opinion) am not gona spoin it for you but , really stupid ending
the gameplay and the graphics are amongst the best on the system exept for CS, CS graphics are kind of like DBZ graphics
the gameplay is insane, its what i liked most about the game , the only other RPG like the sort with better gameplay is grandia 3, and you can make weapons accessories and armore and gain magnificent awards for doing certain things in game, oh and a strategy-book is a must
There was soooo much to do and the battle system is out of this world ! The characters were great graphic jus everything !

I have intentions of playing this game again aswell as "Skies of Arcadia" for the Sega Dreamcast soon after I finish playing Final Fantasy 12 which I took a break from to get back into my fighting game groove.
this game was amazing!! i got a few hours into the second disc and then my cheap ass expander memory card broke and i was so pissed that i havnt touched the game since. although after watching this i really want to start a new game again. P.S. dont buy expander memory cards. i know a lot of people (including myself) who got one and it broke after about a year and lost a lot of game saves. i lost saves from ffx, ffx-2, gta3, kh, and kh2 after beating them all. it pissed me off so much!!!
Neither because star ocean 3 is star ocean till the end of time, it's just called star ocean 3 to name it shorter...It'd sound weird saying the whole title.

I don't see why people are downing the plot of the story, it's actually very good. It does not plant Ideas in your head about fighting god, it's a Sci-Fiction game so of COURSE it's gonna have some very unrealistic things in it. Tell me one RPG anyone has played that has had nothing super fantasy about it

no not longer...its actaully not as long as everybody thinks....kingdom hearts II had a very fckin long intro...but it was a nice game...
this game is really good...but you have to play it right to see certain endings...

i rented this game when it first came out. Almost beat it then had to return it. 2 years later i find it for 15 dollars i buy it. Start a new game almost beat it. Stop till present day. Well i beat the game for once 2 days ago. Now i just beat the Trials bonus dougeon. Sphere 211 here i come .

You have to keep playing to get the rest. Nel will leave your party later. Fayt, Cliff, and Maria will be permanent party members. Later on Mirage will finally join your party, and someone named Adray will join as well.You have one more permanent party member, and I can't remember who it will be. Then you choose two from the last four. You get to choose between Nel, Albel, Peppita, and Roger. Oh yeah, Sophia is your 6th permanent party member.

yes it is...trust me, a very good game...with a decent storyline....kinda challenging if you don't know what you're doing in RPG's...i've flipped it twice...still enjoy playing it...

i dont remember being able to run around on the beach on the planet u start the game on. I do not remember seeing him use his power like that that many times, i do not remember being able to use his power in battle either. WTH

I absolutely DISPISE what this game did to the existing mythology of Star Ocean, not to mention Enix's other RPG's. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I'm not going to ruin it for you, but suffice to say, it's similar to what a bunch of drugged out teenagers would dicuss in thier mom's basement. At least the game itself (sans storyline in second disk) was good, though.

some of these scenes I have NEVER seen in the game. like at 0:41 with the purple haired girl, and the place at 1:03. o.O thats weird
Maybe some things were cut in the english version from the japanese director's cut version??

The scene with the purple haired girl, Farleen, is seen near the beginning of the game when you go rescue her and Tynave. At 1:03 is the Urssa Lava Caves secret dungeon. Nothing was cut out for the english version.

i spent over 150 hours in this game and i leveled them up to 250 and their powers all at maximum . the last girl wich i think was the god of the game in the dragons den was a fucker. i was like a month trying to fight her but then i raised their powers to maximum and i finally beat her. i must say this is the best rpg game ever.

I heard that the Japanese Directors cut version has a 2player Vs. mode, so does the english version have that as well?

You have to go through a bonus dungeon called the Aquatic Gardens of Surferio, in the Surferio Annex of...well, whatever the area is between Peterny and Aquios. XD
Two more things: One, what's the difference between the Director's cut and the original.
Two, is it just me, or does the guy that does Fayt's voice sound like the guy that does Marth's in Fire Emblem? O_O

use balbados,maria and sophia in the inventing slots select original invention until your price on the right says 640 fol. once you get that invent, and thats all. You can get balbados I think in the mosel dunes, you have to have the antique jewelry item with you to recruit him.

the story is kind of lame (in my opinion) am not gona spoin it for you but , really stupid ending
the gameplay and the graphics are amongst the best on the system exept for CS, CS graphics are kind of like DBZ graphics
the gameplay is insane, its what i liked most about the game , the only other RPG like the sort with better gameplay is grandia 3, and you can make weapons accessories and armore and gain magnificent awards for doing certain things in game, oh and a strategy-book is a must

This game was such a great adventure !
There was soooo much to do and the battle system is out of this world ! The characters were great graphic jus everything !
I'm in that tower with the crazy amount of floors right now.
I have intentions of playing this game again aswell as "Skies of Arcadia" for the Sega Dreamcast soon after I finish playing Final Fantasy 12 which I took a break from to get back into my fighting game groove.

this game was amazing!! i got a few hours into the second disc and then my cheap ass expander memory card broke and i was so pissed that i havnt touched the game since. although after watching this i really want to start a new game again. P.S. dont buy expander memory cards. i know a lot of people (including myself) who got one and it broke after about a year and lost a lot of game saves. i lost saves from ffx, ffx-2, gta3, kh, and kh2 after beating them all. it pissed me off so much!!!

Ok, it has been sooooo long since I have played this game but I could have sworn Nel's voice is the same as Rukia's from Bleach. Of course I am talking about the English voice.
I may be and probably am incorrect but can anyone confirm my suspicions or at least agree that there are some resemblances? :D

I don't see why people are downing the plot of the story, it's actually very good. It does not plant Ideas in your head about fighting god, it's a Sci-Fiction game so of COURSE it's gonna have some very unrealistic things in it. Tell me one RPG anyone has played that has had nothing super fantasy about it
