Rally Championship series is a bit stupid for naming this 1993 game 'Network Q RAC', AND their 1996 sequel, AND their 1999 sequel!! Why didn't they call the second and third game different? It's so confusing!
I just got this game, but it came without the manual so I have no way to enter any of the "piracy check" questions at the start! Argh! Does anybody know where I can download a copy of the manual or get a list of the security question answers?
I got this game along with a box full of other Europress softwares in 1996 shortly after getting a new Dell Dimension XPS P166s: you can feel the megahertz!
When I first played the game I didn't know the default steering controls were "," and ".", I thought they were the arrow keys, so my car kept hitting the sidelines and turning with the road, I thought that was how steering worked.
This game really sucks when you consider that Papyrus' NASCAR Racing also came out in 1993. Not even close. Now, they did recover nicely with Rally Championship in 1996 and Mobil 1 Rally Championship in 2000. The 1996 version is pure arcade, but controls well and is fun. This 1993 version doesn't control worth a damn.
Nice sprite ocean there!!! Old games 1000 of times were better than shit like todays CMR DIRT. but still .. in 1993 the technical aptitudes was not enough to simulate the style of rallying. And if this missing from a rally game i think it looses the point of play it.
wow, that is NICE for 93. Wish they would've ported it to the Sega CD, they totally could have pulled it off with the built in scaling and rotation features.
Not really. By 1993, NASCAR Racing was out. Different racing genres, yet, but the technology for this doesn't compare at all to what was possible in 1993.
by console standards this game would've been considered excellent. Compare this to Jaguar XJ220 for the Sega CD and you'll see they are very similar, which means this game could've also been ported to the Sega CD.
For 1993, they have made this very immersive I think.
Mobil 1 Rally Championship was very special, you actually felt like you were driving down real rally stages. The photographic mapping of the game really made it feel gritty and realistic. I remember some stages taking 30mins + to complete. No other rally game did that I dont think
I agree with you. On its highest resolution and color bit, the game's environment looks frighteningly and photorealistically real! It has narrow roads too like in actual stages. Indeed it's still the best rally sim to day and it's hard to think it was made in 2000.
My third rally game i think :) loooong hours of gaming. Thx for uploading :] Now i have a problem with sound/i don't have sounds :( - maybe you can help me. But i'm happy becouse it runs under XP without the special programs :]
You have to configure sound on this outside the game program, there's a file called setblaster.exe or something. I'm running Windows 98 so that's why it runs ok on me. Use DOSbox, it might work.
I have this on my XP laptop and as you'd expect it doesn't work.. Well, not properly anyway.
Used to play this back in the day, was awesome. And I discovered how to cheat your way to the finish, by accident.. Just turn left/right into the bushes while accelerating, and keep the accelerator and steering buttons held down, the car goes into the bushes and goes a bit mental, but you finish before you know it! Easy ;)

The game hasn't aged well unfortunately.

You got this confused with Europress Rally Championship which was made in 96, not 97. Look in the credits at 0:36, it even says 1993!
