This movie was filmed in black and white and then they put on computer graphics. So if there still exist the original black-and-white film without any special effects or graphics they can make a new edition of original "TRON" movie with modern graphics like in the new "Tron: Legacy".
Tron and Blade Runner have the most impressive special effects for sci fi films I've ever seen, especially from the ability of special effects when they were made.
oh also the soundtrack is awesome. actually when i was a teenager i had an older boyfriend, he wanted me to watch tron actually but we never did. anyway, he also had a record by daft punk. it was actually like, underground techno, Detroit style (nothing cheesy there - quite industrial). quite different to their later french electro pop which sounds a bit more like Air. tron legacy was such a technominimalist film (outfits, omg! :D ) - and the music just made it.
Daft Punk did a great job with the score for Tron: Legacy but I think the lightcycle scene needed some faster, more heartpounding music -- something with a Kelly Bailey vibe.

haha i see your point.
i never did end up watching the original tron - i was born in 1980 & it was never in the video stores once VHS got phased out.
these scenes were among the most enjoyable for me in the new tron.
you can really see in this one what was meant by the grid, hey? ;)
cool. ^^ thanks!

when you compare this to tron legacy's lightcycles, you'll realize legacy's lightcycle scene was total crap

This sucks, now I see why Disney dropped the original 'Light Cycle' music by Wendy Carlos from this scene.

@IggyHazard When I heard "4000 Kelvin" in the original Portal, I immediately thought it would make a great light cycle chase theme.

@hambone1138 When I watched Tron: Legacy and saw the light cycle chase, I immediately heard 'Self-Destruction' (from HL2: Episode One) in my head!

Wow. That works perfectly. I love how the Recognizer takes off after them right as the music starts repeating that suspenseful downward scale.
