There are associate degrees in welding technology (2 year). I just noticed you live in the UK, so I'm not sure where the courses would be (I live in Northeast Ohio, USA). Search Yahoo, I'm sure there is a list of them for the UK somewhere.
Is it better to run your roots that fast? I'm still in school and i just the hang of the root but i run it slow as hell. is it easier to run it that fast?
In any type of welding you always run it slow until you get good enough to run it fast. You'll get more control over the puddle and then be able to turn up the heat to do it faster. It's easier because it's faster.
anyone can learn to walk the cup (fitters)boilermakers have the true skill to freehand roots when the tungsten is sticking out 5/8 inch to reach between the membrane of waterwalls
you have a gas lens inside the cup, its just a piece with a couple layers of mesh screen that takes the irregularities out of the gas flow so you can get more tungsten stickout without getting porosity
Ok, I think I know what you are talking about. Is that an optional piece? The last place I TIG welded (in fact my last place of employment :-( ), there wasn't any mesh piece, but I think that there was in another place I worked. I'm mostly a MIG welder, but I spent my "down time" at my last job practicing my TIG.
walk it walk it haa, I've never touched pipeline welding, but I've done lots of boilertubes, in the Pulpmills here in BC, gotta love being a boilermaker
yeah, well i was, i welded tubes and pipes on outages for 2 years with Helfrich Bros. Boiler works, then went to work for a boiler fab shop called Kvaerner Power, well then they got sold and moved to S.C (cheaper labor), now im back in college and got a semester left to get my bachelors degree in welding engineering
Is there any one from Norway? I have just finish studying welding at a professional school. I wish to work some where, around the world.

I second that. It takes a real steady hand to do that. 5/8th's stickout? What would the gas be set at?
rockyriverman 3 years ago
gas is still set at 20-30 cfm but you are using a gas lens
jimbob987654 3 years ago
Gas lens? Are you talking about a Flowmeter?
