@MrBaphomet616 Can we not argue about eminem on an O.K. video. Look, I like em. You don't apparently. So, let's just move on and listen to this awesome song. Also, you and your arguements are pretty pointless.
@musiclover01ization The point is not who likes who. The point is credit is not given where credit is due. But go ahead, call it petty. That seems to be the solution for all this.
@Hump4free Whatever, dude. It just pisses me off when people fight over nothing. I just want to listen to a great song by two great mc's. Let's not fight.
@MrBaphomet616 Nope, but any hip-hop head would play Infinite, SSLP & MMLP, possibly skipping 2 songs in total. Even if he puts out some wack radio-friendly singles he's clearly not a shit MC, anyone who argues otherwise is trying far too hard.
@MrBaphomet616 Go and look up 'Rakim speaks on Eminem', you are just one of countless clueless wannabe hip-hop heads who think shitting on mainstream artists makes your opinion credible - it doesn't.
@MrBaphomet616 Rakim = Adult who think she's cool for listening to 12 year old pop music?
You are clueless as fuck and have been listening to hip-hop for an insignificant period of time, you think you're a head because you diss Em and know who RA is, how cute. Your equation makes no sense by the way, neither of those artists resemble his Slim Shady alter ego, Cage did though.
He isn't shit, you are completely and utterly wrong and you are completely and utterly retarded.
@MrBaphomet616 For starters, you'd have to be incredibly fucking retarded to call Eminem a shit MC. You'd also have to be incredibly fucking retarded to not understand the difference between referencing incredibly well known lines from other rappers and biting other people's lyrics. You'd also have to be incredibly fucking retarded to be such a clueless poser and put your opinion ahead of Rakim's.
lol I'll say it on my wifes account...talking bout pun and em....glad to see you trying to connect something you understand...more comments bout double time and such...errrch yer breaks on. in my opinion this has more weight on wutang and rza than any mentioned. coming from a dude that lived out stetsasonic etc, its what i see. 1975 saying whas up.
@TheHumanBallsack Damn, you're right. Now that you mention it. Treach, G Rap, Poor Righteous Teachers, Fu Schnickens, Busta Rhymez, Das EFX, Masta Ace, Big Daddy Kane, Lordz Of The Underground, Da Bush Babies even Jay-Z. Man, the list goes on. &, yet there's some who still have the nerve to say that BTNH were the first to spit double-time rhymes when it was done way before "Creepin' on Ah Come Up" or "Faces Of Death" was even a thought. The art of rhyming was mastered way before the 90's
Yes, it is. It's good to hear when today's popular/mainstream and younger artists today, still pay homage to the originators and legends of yesteryear. Like just last night I was watching an old interview on here of Dres (Black Sheep) mention how shocked he was to learn that even Korn still does a cover of Black Sheep's "You Mean I'm Not" during their live-performances to this day. Now that's respect. And, advertisers are using classic Hip-Hop tracks in their commercials more now.
RE Eminem...i had peeps telling me he came back from fallin off with his newest album...I'm not convinced. A credible MC wouldn't even bother to share a track with a lil whine based on the HH community's opinion & that's just for starters. This shit right here tho, is realness (:
@johnjnukemsheridan Exactly, Eminem has been shit for a while and probably will be until he retires. It doesn't matter, everyone needs to enjoy his old stuff and move the fuck on
@johnjnukemsheridan I know everyone likes to add their 2 cents about what eminem should do next, but i think he needs to record an album with only 2 producers...Dr. Dre and FBT. They knew what they were on about. They crafted songs WITH eminem FOR eminem. Not like that manufactured pre-made beat shit that we heard on Recovery. Not a bad album in some respects, but i get the feeling the music was already produced and eminem just wrote to it. It works better the other way around
if you've never been to Jamaica, Queens. This song pretty much sums up the dark side of our community. from the lyrics 2 the production and even the beat which almost sounds like a heartbeat. Organized Konfusion, 50 Cent, Onyx, Lost Boys, i can go on because there are many more. they all can go negative OR positive, but THIS is a sound we ALL heard growing up. on the other side SouthJamaica,StAlbans, Springfield, Rochdale are full of positive PROGRESSIVE people. RIP JMJ shoutout2Hollis
These brothers were spitting crazily before we ALL even knew about flow and technique...wtf!!!! I'm sorry to ignore your skills, and look where Pharoahe Monch is now!!! These brothers were spitting crazily before we ALL even knew about flow and technique...wtf!!!! I'm sorry to ignore your skills, and look where Pharoahe Monch is now!!! I STILL support Prince Po with his albums too...lyrical monsters!!! Go ahead and support your abc-rhyming rappers....
You can hear where Eminem was inspired for "Medicine Ball" on 'Relapse' @ 1:26 Pharoahe Monch says "I'm coming for you little girl/ once inside I shatter your world/ no more dreams, no hopes when I spray/ you better pray to the pope or vatican/.." This has the same exact pattern and flow as Eminem's "I guess it's time for you to hate me again, let's begin, now hand me the pen/ How should I begin it and where does it all end?/ The world is just my medicine ball, you're all in./"
@poeticpisces2007 It's very similar, but damn, this is Pharoahe Monch just spitting crazy...and I see why you brought Em into this discussion... the hip-hop/rap game NEEDS to go back to this..y'all just gettin off on club hits and shit... Those who listened to PE back in the days; did they EVER do a club hit??? Nah, you LISTENED and RECITED the rhymes...I'm ecstatic that Wu-Tang is STILL dropping shit!! "Yo, I'm the livest nigga around - Big Pun (Shut It Down Remix)"
@keziah1399 Yep, Wu-Tang is one of the few rare ones left, and still around that havn't completely sold out. We need more original flavor today and not all of this pretty boy, finger-snappin', bubble-gum cRap. It's sickening, there are very few new mainstream/commercial releases even worth buying now. I'd rather just catch up on all of the great Hip-Hop classics that I didn't get a chance to buy as a kid or missed out on between 1986-'96 when it was still on point and made alot of sense.
@TheHumanBallsack WORD UP! I"m Glad there some who know who EM's Fathers are your also a Rapologist, we can't forget BIG PUN... Puns death allowed him take the "Syllable fusion" cadence(That Treach had been murdering since 1991) and master it, if you listen to the Capital punishment joint and compare that to Em's 1st joint , Puns patterns were invincible
light years ahead of alot of rhymers and that was 1997... i'll never forget
@dogdog9090 Damn str8. Pun was in the leagues of G Rap, Kane, Rakim, KRS, Monch, Treach, early Ras Kass, early Chino, early A.Z......he was only around for 2 or 3 years of albums releases, but blew the rap game wide open, that hole then filled instantly with Em n the rest of those clown rappers.
@TheHumanBallsack Once again dude you didn't disappoint metioning Chino... that's another one of Ems fathers because of the raw/rude/ dangerous Punchlines. and Rass and Az.. And being "Real follow the leader"
is one of the GREATEST RAPS EVER WRITTEN! it Birthed a gang of our favorite rappers
@TheHumanBallsack Go and look up what Rakim has to say about Eminem. Guarantee Monch also has a massive amount of respect for him, as does pretty much everybody in hip-hop who isn't trying to diss him for exposure and as does pretty much every hip-hop head who isn't try to prove how much they know about the genre by dissing every mainstream artist they can think of.
@TheHumanBallsack its kinda of gay to hate eminem cuz he was inspired by other rappers styles, people perfect styles that other people have started, its like saying walter payton is an asshole cuz he was inspired by trunning style of jim brown, does that mean payton sucks and should have never played football? hell no
@TheHumanBallsack - Monch is probly the illest lyricist ever. Em 1st borrowed from big L (check his first album--Infinite). Then he used master ace style when he invented Slim Shady (that was actually when Em was at his dopest). But actually in most emcees u can hear the influence of the cats they was listening to. Early Jay -z was heavily influed by Big Daddy Kane & G Rap. Lil Wayne 4 years ago was Lil Jay -z.
@TheHumanBallsack yo what songs are you talking about? i hate how Em has soo much fame that he's a household rap name, he's had way too much radio play aha, half of his fans only know his last few albums and the movie 8 mile
@poeticpisces2007 Em's referenced Hip Hop classics a lot throughout his career be it straight lyrics or rhyme schemes and patterns. It's an intentional Easter Egg of sorts for older hip hop heads.
@poeticpisces2007 Beats the shit outta dat shady mc! Underground will always survive because we dont want NO pollution........... ''No body seen shit- No body heard it'' But shady did ;(
@MrTAZGHETTOJUNGALIST Let the trigger finger find a VERY specific target..... This is deffo one bullet that strayed from its path.... But the underground dont give a shit as time is a great healer ;)
Pharoahe Monch's verse was a "Hip-Hop Quotable" in The Source Magazine back in the day... Which wasn't that long ago, but, compared to y'all brothas, real hip-hop was wayyyyyy back in the day...
@roBEARtoEHarwoodJr .. i own that source your talking about... Nas and 2 Pac got their idea from this song when they made "I Gave You Power" and Me and My Girlfriend"
PHAOAHE IS INCREDIBLE "You better pray to the Pope and the Vatican before I go rata ta ta tat again" ............. Prince went in to when he quoted the Patrice Rushan lyric "Soon You'll forget me not"
When I first listened to this track I could not stop listening to it. that was back then, when it first came out. I still can't get enough of the song. I LOVE how they are the "bullet" of a gun. The bullet is telling the story all the way through. 5/5
For the record, Nas did not get the concept from this record. Munch and Nas, both, talked about it, and they said it did not influence Nas's record. I even asked Munch, and he said he knows Nas didn't bite.
No, he just said that he beat Nas to the idea. That doesn't mean Nas got the concept from him. It just means that Munch was the first to release a record with that concept. Just remember that no idea is original.
That shit is a classic. I actually think that record is better. No disrespect to Munch. I actually think he's one of the greatest emcees ever, but I have to give it to Nas.
Love these dudes!!! I spent 5 years in NY in the 90's where I first learned of them. I bought all their cd's, which i later lost in New Orleans because of Katrina....I'll probably never find them again, but I can always hear them here!! Thanks for bringin it back!! RESURRECT THE UNDERGROUND!!
A dope song indeed! Not sure why that one guy can't hear the lyrics. The sound goes in and out at times, but not to where things are not being heard of bass and scratches. Anyways... great post yo.
Dope lyrics. (obviously similar (and most likely inspiration) for Nas's I Gave You Power)
Only problem I have is that overwhelming bass-like noise (I don't know the instrument). I think it should have been muffled more like at 0:58 and not like it is at 0:06. It sometimes overwhelms the lyrics a bit because it can get so loud in the headphones..... though it doesn't bother me during the chorus/hook/scratches.
Everybody is starting to get tired of this bullshit on the radio,i mean ever video i watch people are speaking out against this nonsense. The industry will be forced to change soon.Sure there still are alot of ignorant muthafuckas out there but day by day people are getting fed up with the bullshit
I read the comment perfectly, I do not need glasses. You said the song was so good that Nas had to bite it, then call Nas' song "str8" classic and this song garbage.
I do not want to get into an argument, I am just saying.
2Pac didn't use the music from this song. This sample is from Donald Byrd's "Wind Parade". Black Moon used it for "Buck Em Down", as well as the remix. Personally I think Black Moon used it best but I love this song and this album. 2Pac and OK just so happened to sample the same song, which was very common in hip hop before everything went shit house. They also used "Nautilus" by Bob James, one of the most sampled songs ever.
i was sick in the bed with cancer when this first came out and remeber my mom went to wearhouse record and bought me this on album on cassette. its might sound kind of strange but the music on this album was so good its like it nurse me back to health. i couldnt really remember i was sick this album made me forget. they hardly make any thing strong enough that can do that today.

People who call that faggy auto-tune shit rap deserve to be shot. It's an insult to awesome music like this!

Pharoahe Monch's verse was a "Hip-Hop Quotable" in The Source Magazine back in the day... Which wasn't that long ago, but, compared to y'all brothas, real hip-hop was wayyyyyy back in the day...
roBEARtoEHarwoodJr 1 year ago
@roBEARtoEHarwoodJr .. i own that source your talking about... Nas and 2 Pac got their idea from this song when they made "I Gave You Power" and Me and My Girlfriend"

@tharekhh Both verses are deep, but pharoe munch's verse could be used as an example of how a ryhme should be delivered, absolute perfection!

I even asked Munch, and he said he knows Nas didn't bite.
inquisitive871 2 years ago
how do you know that? you know pharoahe??? if you do thats cool
RelaxednCaIm 2 years ago
I asked him on Twitter. You should follow him. He actually answers questions as long as they're not stupid, lol. Good luck!!!!
inquisitive871 2 years ago
could u say what else he said tho? are u sure nas wasn't inspired by this track? cause i always felt he was.
RelaxednCaIm 2 years ago
No, he just said that he beat Nas to the idea. That doesn't mean Nas got the concept from him. It just means that Munch was the first to release a record with that concept. Just remember that no idea is original.
inquisitive871 2 years ago 2
true...
thats actually a dope nas song as well.lol
RelaxednCaIm 2 years ago
That shit is a classic. I actually think that record is better. No disrespect to Munch. I actually think he's one of the greatest emcees ever, but I have to give it to Nas.

neffone77 2 years ago
A dope song indeed! Not sure why that one guy can't hear the lyrics. The sound goes in and out at times, but not to where things are not being heard of bass and scratches. Anyways... great post yo.
mrmarcanthony1 2 years ago 2
Dope lyrics. (obviously similar (and most likely inspiration) for Nas's I Gave You Power)
Only problem I have is that overwhelming bass-like noise (I don't know the instrument). I think it should have been muffled more like at 0:58 and not like it is at 0:06. It sometimes overwhelms the lyrics a bit because it can get so loud in the headphones..... though it doesn't bother me during the chorus/hook/scratches.

I'm coming for you little girl
Once inside I shatter your world
Swirl, no more dreams no hopes when I spray
You better pray, to the pope or the vatican
Before I go rat-tat-a-tat again
I'm mad again brother somebody's mother will be sad again
But, whose blue skies will turn grey
From the attack, of the mac-11, I'm a stray, bullet

I read the comment perfectly, I do not need glasses. You said the song was so good that Nas had to bite it, then call Nas' song "str8" classic and this song garbage.
I do not want to get into an argument, I am just saying.

How the fuck does 2 Pac get away with using the music from this song in his song "Definition of a thug Nigga"?
unconditionalmalice 2 years ago
2Pac didn't use the music from this song. This sample is from Donald Byrd's "Wind Parade". Black Moon used it for "Buck Em Down", as well as the remix. Personally I think Black Moon used it best but I love this song and this album. 2Pac and OK just so happened to sample the same song, which was very common in hip hop before everything went shit house. They also used "Nautilus" by Bob James, one of the most sampled songs ever.
