One .22 to the chest cavity does a lot less damage then say a 9mm, but of course we all know this... However, when youre throwing as much lead down range as this 10/22, that same chest cavity will see broken bones, ruptured organs, and eventually death...

For people unaware of the killing power/self defense a .22 is capable of. Have you ever heard of yaw on impact? As soon as a .22 strikes a soft target, it starts pitchign and yawing, hence causing a rolling action that causes much more internal damage then a shot passing through. There is rarely an exit wound with a .22, which means that bullet is still in you after ripping up the soft tissue. Yes, a .22lr/ar is just fine for self defense.

Most don't rely on tumbling for handguns, since it has never been proven to tumble 100% while a larger caliber will always be larger than a smaller caliber. That being said, I think a .22 is an excellent carry option if you are able to get shots under the nose,or concerned about noise level and/or over-penetration.

.22 has much better penetration of certain bullet vests than other rounds because they are so small and they aren't ''too powerful'', this is why they 'penetrate' water almost 3m while .50 BMG is turned into dust.
