  • @rationalconclusion : this is to some degree also a Buddhist view of what god is, and the reason that some use the word 'god' to describe the universe is that they as synonymous - they are both omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient (by both I mean 'God' and the 'universe') - and therefore as tHey are both all of things they are both reality, and reality is the truth, if it isn't true, it's not real. I think the difference between the God or deity and the God of the universe is faith, as faith re

  • Freedom to me is the separation of one's soul or essence from one's physical limitations, and I think that's what people are trying to describe when they talk about freedom. So, I'm not a murderer. I'm a liberator.

  • I think the majority of people have a lot of misconceptions about atheism. It's true that the overlying commonality of atheism is the disbelief in "Gods," in the context that it is normally used, but that's as far as it goes. You'll find that an overwhelming majority of atheists do hold beliefs. What we feel and what we know are two entirely different concepts. We know we exist but the realm of what's possible is too grand and only a fool denies with certainty what he feels.

  • @Beeht Agreed :)

  • @Gnomefro And I don't think religious people are crazy people. I think people go to church because they find God there - I sometimes go to Born-Again churches for the same reason, even though I don't agree with everything they're saying, I get caught up in that passion for life and God. I just think their concept of God is skewed by religion. We're worshipping essentially the same thing, I'm just not personifying it. Then again I know for a fact that I AM crazy, so let's bear that in mind ;)

  • @Gnomefro I strongly disagree :) I don't think it validates those ideas, I think it simply offers an alternative definition. I think we should worship God for similar reasons in a different way, I think we should pray, as long as we're realistic about what God is, and don't fantasize. Don't think your prayers will magically happen, pray to God then remind yourself that you're God and you have to answer your own prayers.

  • There is one huge problem with using the word God to describe natural relationship. That problem is that you validate the ideas of crazy people worldwide by adopting the label they use to refer to the personal delusion commanding them to do all sorts of counterproductive things.

I think this is so problematic that I'd encourage you to make up a better vocabulary, even if you don't want to call yourself a naturalist or atheist.

  • @RationalConclusion That point of view being that I worship the intricacies of the universe and our world and how everything's interconnected and everyone affects everything and everything affects everyone - That's my God. Rather than see God as an 'intangible parent figure', why can't it be a culmination of all the forces in the world, without defining it so.. well.. fantastically?

  • @RationalConclusion lol Fair enough. As I said at the start of the video I'm pretty bad at explaining myself. But it's not just the universe. It's You + Universe = God. God to me is the back and forth relationship between yourself and the universe, and I think that's what people are trying to describe when they talk about their deities, too. I think I just look at it from a more logical, scientific point of view, rather than a mystical one.

  • I don't think it's helpful to use the word god for things like the universe. We already have a word to describe the universe. To use the word god is just confusing and causes misunderstanding.

It sounds to me like you're an atheist.

  • @ybra Also, I think the word God puts the appropriate importance on it - it's my personal belief that these are the things we should be concerned with, rather than religious dogmas and deity-worship. We should be our own Gods, and we should recognise that in ourselves, and give it the appropriate weight. Just my thoughts, of course.

  • @ybra Thanks, I see exactly what you're saying and maybe even agree with you a little bit. All I can say is that using the word God, and treating that relationship between myself and the universe as my faith, and using that relationship as a context for some of the things other people say about faith and God, has really helped me to improve my life, my attitude and my experiences, so I thought I'd share. :)

  • I think you have defined "god" into obscutity and what you say god is is not what most people think of when they hear the word "god". I think callinng the universe/yourself god only servs to confuse people.

I'm an atheist and I can't really say that i dissagree with your view, but I wouldn't use the word "god" to describe any of what you taked about. For example I think we as humans do have power to change the world around us through our actions, but I don't see anything godlike in that.
