@RSXYYY it would be a better track car now dipshit. the stock miata motor weighs 385lbs the ls1 is aluminum and weighs in at 450lbs. Thats only a whopping 65lbs difference. Id say the power gain is well worth the time bit of weight. Ive seen a modded ls1 miata weigh in at 2150. Thats insanely light. The ls1 also has better clearance on the back side so it can sit 2 inches closer to the center of the car for better weight distribution. So wtf are you talking about

@RSXYYY Those are even closer in weight especially if you compare each engine's 5 speed against each other. The Tremec 3550 and TKO transmissions are ~95 lb. dry, ~100 lb. with juice in them. The miata 5 speed weighs about 80lbs full. There are quite a few companies making kits for these swaps. It really makes it a painless process.

actually a stock ls1 gets pretty good mileage when you drive it right. esp. on a lighterweight car.. gets 20+ mpg. my freinds 30th anniversarry vette got 30mpg on the highway when cruising in 6th gear @ like 70mph.

30th anniversary vette would be an 83. 1983 corvette never saw production, let alone an ls1 or 6 speed tranny. Maybe you mean a 50th anniversary, a 2003? My 02 Z06 (lightly modded) will do 35mpg on the highway, and just as good around town, provided your in a high enough gear (motor has enough torque to pull you around town even in 6th...but it's not half as fun) You're right though, 2400lb. miata prob gets better than that (mpg)

definitely. a 6spd manual ls1 can get decent gas mileage. going 70mph in 6th @ around 1300-1400 rpms is definitely gas saving.
