My grandpa passed away in December. The following morning they discovered that he was listening to music during. Evidently he knew his illness was finally catching him...and he was listening to Jim Reeves. Damn it if my grandfather was not brave...he had to be to take that final step...and now emphysema can't hurt him anymore.
My Dad always loved this song. He certainly didn't have Jim Reeves voice, but I remember him singing this song around the house. On November 22, 2008 he did "fly away" to be with His Lord and Savior and to be reunited with My Mom who had gone home just under four months earlier. I miss them both, but I am confident that I will one day see them again because of a man named Jesus and a place called Mt Calvary.
Tradition has it that this was Jim Reeves most favorite gospel song.It was sung during his funeral church service in August 1964. Wonderful rendition however.
@shawneeNdNwmn I have an album with this beautiful song on it - I bought it for my mum, who has since flown away. The album is simply called 20 Gospel Favourites by Jim Reeves on the Paradiso label!....
One of my favorite songs since I was a little girl reminds me of my Grandma Thora, my mother-in-law Penny, and my sister-in-law who have all flown away to their glory. How I miss them! - Thank you, Teresa
I love Jim Reeves, and love his voice, and he passed too soon, what an inspiration to all, he has touched the hearts of many, long after he has 'flown away'
This has really touched me and has made me see that this is one of the songs I want to do. I have wanted to do country gospel for weeks now and coming across this just confirms Im on the right track. Jim is related to me and I want to thank 164will for puting this on youtube
My dad favourite singer, i lost my dad on the 30th july, god knows how hard it is, it hurts so much, i miss my wonderful dad. I'll treasure all the precious moment we had, you're forever in my hear sweet daddy I LOVE YOU
HERMOSA VOZ Y HERMOSA CANCION , EN ESTOS MOMENTO QUE LE QUITARON LA VIDA A MI NIETO QUERIDO ESTAS CACIONES DE JIM ME TOCAN EL ALMA, DIOS TE TENGA EN SU SANTA GLORIA JIM,,
Im 17 and normally listening to hiphop or rap. But one day when I was 7 years I heard this song in my grandma's house. And every time since when I came I heard it. Now when I came by her house I am the one putting it on! It just reminds me of hear and will always do. Beautiful song and voice.
My Dad brought some LP records of Jim Reeves some 35 years back when I was a kid...I have lot of nostalgic feeling whenever I listen to these songs.... What a blessed voice...... so powerful so graceful. I heard that this song is his last song on the eatrh...now he must be singing the joyful songs in the celestial land.
Do you remember where you were when you heard Mr. Reeves had died? I was at school in Gravette, Arkansas at GHBS on the steps going into the school building. One of the saddest days of my life. I felt like I had lost a friend.

one of my favorite memories of jamaica, is my mom playing jim reeves every sunday morning an his love songs in the evening....i just love his voice..r.i.p...
flying down the highway, new mexico/arizona bound from our colorado home, my dad would sing along with jimmy on the radio...even then his voice paired with mr. reeves' could raise goosebumps on my skin. they were so similar in timbre and quality that i would just sit quiet and still and listen to them both. my job was to keep my dad awake as he drove down the road late at night. we would sing together down the highway. this one's for you, dad!
If someone listens to Jim Reeves gospel songs they would hear that he really did not have long on earth and he knew it, with songs like 'I will fly away' - 'This world is not my home -'Across the bridge- God be with you until we meet again' and many more tunes of the same vein, we would see and hear that he knew that his time on earth was not to be too long. Who have eyes let them see, who have ears let them hear
What a beautiful voice Gentleman Jim had. You can melt away listening to him. A sad day for this world when he was killed but what a gain for Heaven. God Bless you Jim. Your music & songs have touched so many people.
@ebenezerhm Jim was killed in a small private plane in the 31st of July 1964. A day I will never forget. I was not out of high shool very long when I heard the news.
I had to go to my room to sit and cry. I still to this day do not think of that day without
feeling tears in my eyes. He touched so many people with his beautiful voice and
just the kind spirit, and love he had for others. RIP Jim we will miss you always.
Thank you for sharing. His voice was a gift to carry us along, helping us wait with hope for that time when we too will go with Him. No more separation, no more tears.
His voice is a gift from above - as clear as it can get ~ for lack of better words ~ a human bird voice!.
I recommend people who like this to listen to: This world is not my home, as well as some secular ones "My favorite is: Gypsy Feet". God bless his soul. Fitsumek.
This is may favorite Jim Reeves gospel recording, Jim's voice is as clear as a rippling spring brook, and there's not too much orchestration obscuring it.

One of my favorite gospel songs by one of my favorite classic country performers. But....
What if there was an arch nemesis of Gentle Jim Reeves?
"Jim "the brute" Reeves..a punk rocker that did gospel song parodies....
"I'll fry away"
Just a few more dreary days and than, I'll fry away.. in that pit where sorrows never end, I'll fry away.
