  • Heya mate, the source of the problem it the cam belt/timing belt, because the car has soooooo many miles this just happens and im affraid its not cheap, your best bet is to sell the car, fast! good luck with what ever choice you make :D

  • should of used better oil, my ford laser 1.8L does the same thing...though it has 309,000km

  • yeh this guy is rite i had same problem use the bst castrol oil u can buy m8 butt dont expect a sudden change itl take bout a week or so to stop tikinn

  • use a good oil in it, i use full synth 0-30w castrol edge

  • Opel engines had a tendency to wear their cams out around 80/90,000 miles (144,000 KM)

this results in a ticking noise which gets faster with the revs and over time if unrepaired gets louder

you could replace the cam shaft and followers, springs etc if you think the car is worth it

  • did you ever overheat it in the past ?

sounds me like head gasket failure

  • Thanks because my exhaust just below the manafold is lose as well so if I get that fixed it should quiten down. Is that a corsa sport you have coz its the same engine i have and mines a sport.

  • No that's an ancient Corsa Swing 1.4 in the video. I love that car though :D

  • hay mine has the same problem but i need to no what it is by any chance do you no what the problem was

  • The clicking is still there and I haven't done any of the suggestions the commenters have suggested (yet).

However the reason the noise was so loud was because the exhaust was leaking (solders came undone) and once resoldered, the noise quietened.

  • Is the distribution. You need to replace the chain. The distribution chain must be changed at 150k km.

  • Well if ever, I got it checked by the garage and actually, the front exhaust silencer (as well as the rear, though it has nothing to do with that ticking noise) had died on me...

A piece was vibrating against the engine and well, got it fixed for a very hefty sum! At least the car is purring nicely now ;)

  • how old is the oil in it? I worked in an Opel salon.. Opel uses hidraulic devices to still the space betveen the chamshaft and the valves.. If you missed to change the oil in time, it can get "muddy", and stand into theese hidraulic parts, and disable their work.. So I guess the sound is from the chamshaft hitting the valves from a bigger distance, than it should...

  • elo there, i had the same problem, its either the timing chain, water pump or fanbelt, they all seem to make ticking noices, sound smore like the water pumo to me, i had mine fixed, a new timing chin should sort it though
